If you’re after any ring or amazon devices, and are not in any rush to get them I would probably wait until July when Amazon have prime day as that’s when the biggest discounts on these products are held, also most other reatailers will price match the amazon prices, like Argos etc so might be worth waiting just incase.

Whats the dot worth, about £15, making the bell around 30 notes.

    Is this even a deal?
This is a very bog-standard price for the pair. Sure, it's cheaper than both items separately, but Amazon has a perpetual bundle for these two items and that bundle very often totals less than this price.

Why google home over echo dot? I’m currently in the process of choosing between the 2 for a smart home too but have no idea as both have pros and cons

Can you change the default sound on these things? I went canvassing in the local elections, and eventually these drove me crazy. In need of a good smart doorbell though.

You can (and should) turn off the external sound on these in the settings. You can also select different notification sound on your phone in the app.

I had Google devices first and was going to add more cameras/doorbells. But I got fed up with how poor the app was. I also then wanted to add an alarm system, which google didn’t offer. So I went with Ring and added their cameras/monitoring service. The app is infinitely better and the alarm system is great. I’ve also managed to get the cameras for a lot less than google. Just swapped out my google home speakers for echo dots.

Still have google chromecast/TV and nest smoke detectors… I got over the annoyance that everything isn’t fully integrated fairly quickly.

In my experience it doesn't always work out properly to simply switch over - all depends on what power output your existing setup has to your doorbell...
