Has anybody tried any third-party batteries for Ryobi? I think it was a 5.0ah for about £25 and good reviews. Tempted.

Don't bother. They're naff. Capacity not as claimed, cut out under high loads (e.g. leaf blower etc.)

The internals are poor quality too. Poor soldering, removal of heatsink components (cf. a genuine) etc.

One of mine had poorly shaped battery contacts too, so when I used it in my leaf blower, it heated up the contact enough to melt some of the surrounding plastic.

Photos added (the genuine has the blue casing): N.B. the poor soldering, and the heatsink on the genuine, that has been avoided on the 3rd party. Both of these are 5.0 Ah

These new shape batteries have the extra connections for the newer HP tools, so if you have them, get these.

Bought 4 items in last few months. Not happy that two had old batteries in. Much prefer the new ones with level checker

Ordered, was looking at the 2 pack 4ah ones at the same price just this morning!
These should power the scarifier perfectly

got this last time it was on deal. Had one on charge all night and not raised above 2 bars. Anybody else ever had this issue?

Sounds dead. I'd send it back if I were you.

Thinking of getting a cordless bundle for my dad's 60th. Are the tools worth splashing out on?

Defo. I love mine bought so far. Always get in offer though. They come round a lot.

good price - definitely worth getting a fast charger for these bigger capacities. The fast chargers are more than 3 times quicker than the flimsy ones they tend to bundle with tools.
    TECHSPEC's avatar
But imho , the faster chargers damage the batteries quicker. Agree the 1.5 charges are crap, but I like the 2.0 one. If you have more than one battery, your not in a rush.

    great price!

Damn you HUKD just got the blower purely for the 4.0ah battery

Can't see me needing big batteries now till spring, but love a deal.

Bought the twin pack last time it was on offer. They are currently back with Ryobi as they have problems retaining their charge. From fully charged to two bars in 10 days without use. Doesn't happen with any of my other (older) Ryobi batteries. The lady on the service helpline sounded incredulous but I've tested them several times.
