Just bought this as already had a single and it’s been really helpful with the rising energy costs seeing how much energy various things in my house are using. This looks to be as cheap as they get according to CamelCamelCamel.

Anyone that's into tinkering with tech stuff will enjoy these you can pull the data from them with a python script and then can view them in something like grafena I might be wrong but I think you can control them this way without internet aslong as they have an IP address on the network so you could block them from ever connecting out if privacy is a concern

I was about to ask that, actually. So thanks for the heads up!

These are supposed to work great with Home Assistant. Have ordered some to try. GOTTED and BROUGHT!

I have 4 of the P100’s in my HA setup. Thinking 4 of these would be handy.

Does the plug monitor it’s own power usage or do you need to plug one into another one to find out?

You know what, that’s a great question! I’ve read that the plug uses 1w of power but I don’t know if that’s reflected in the monitor. I’ll check mine for you in a minute, just making coffee ^_^

Very good to get these for under a tenner each.

£8.50 a unit, can’t complain! I’m using mine to automate stuff like dehumidifiers and stuff that doesn’t need to be on all day to only come on when it’s sunny so they run exclusively off solar power. No idea if I’ll save £34’s worth of electricity but worth trying!

Was also considering whether to order the 4 pack or just another single for £9.99 - decided on the single in the end.
    Heat added (edited)

You can have as many as your WiFi can handle

Bought a 4 pack of these last week for £36 to track my 2.5X the UK average electricity consumption. A few more for slightly less will come in handy. Heat.

Do not use with heaters and kettles. (see photos in reviews)

Why? Is there any specific reason?

If the Wifi on the house was to go down for any reason, would the plug fail to operate.

so for example i put the lights on via the plug then the wifi was to go down, would the light turn off?
    wollywinker's avatar

No. They need WiFi to operate. They will remain in their current state if WiFi drops out. You can set automation via the tapo app. Also you can set them to default to either the previous state or a user defined state on power outage via the tapo app itself. (edited)

Do these work from an iPhone? Is it Apple home?

They have a dedicated app. They are not HomeKit compatible.

Last week you were getting two of these for £15.99 I’m sure it was and have raised the price for the ‘sale’.

No, they were P100's which don't have energy usage monitoring.

Do you need to create an online account to use these OR can you just plug them in and use with phone?

You need an account to log in to the app.

I found my TV, AMP, BluRay all in standby draws a solid 10w. Now I power everything down with one of these and only turn it on when its used.

Can you put the electricity unit cost in and they show you the £ consumption per day, week, month etc or do they just show the usage and you have to do the calculation yourself to get the value in monetary terms?
    A57ton's avatar
    A57ton
If you put the rate in, it will calculate (edited)

Do these still lose their internet connection after some time? I had constant disconnect issues with the 1st gen Tapo P100's, which TP-Link didn't resolve despite knowing what it was.

Most of that is irrelevant. They can’t physically collect 90% of it.
