Purchased! Looking to cut down on screen time and don't need all the bells and whistles anymore. After watching reviews, plenty fast with my needs. At £60, who can complain?

    Cheers.

    EDIT:

Went and picked mine up, all setup - currently typing from it. Absolute bargain for £60, has absolutely everything a user would need from a smartphone. Chugs a little when setting up but has been absolutely acceptable in actual usage.

I have one of these (because I'm a glutton for punishment and love trying out cheap tech) and I can confirm WhatsApp does work.
Bear in mind that this is only running a quad core processor so apps do take two or three seconds to open for lighter apps and quite a bit longer for heavier ones. The only app I use that really winds me up speed wise is my banking app which takes so long that I get the "app appears to have stopped" warning and I have to press the wait button to give it chance to load up, but it gets there eventually and it has the best battery life on a phone I've ever had.
I paid the full 80 quid a couple of weeks ago and I'm not disappointed so at this price it's decent, as long as you always remember it's not going to perform like a £600 phone(or a £120 phone to be honest)

I love cheap tech too! I'll buy flagships and good quality tech, but equally love playing with stuff to find out how much of a flagship I can get for 10 or 15% of the price. Sometimes the differences between them aren't as wide as they should be.

Tempting for the price but the 2GB RAM put me off

Hi Mr Switch, i hear you are the man to ask about phones. I am totally clueless & still have a samsung wave about 10 years old! I am currently after a phone for my teenager, my budget is about £100. He already has a pay as you go sim & i don't want a contract, just a phone that he can use for whatsapp, discord, snapchat, instagram etc... My personal preferences are nokia & samsung, but thats only because they are really the only phones i have ever used. Any advice grateful.

There are no decent samsung phones in your price range, Look at the oppo a16s from O2 for £79, I believe a very good phone for that kind of money, and it saves you £20

Honestly, your best bet is the note series or s22 ultra, there are cheaper alternatives by the likes of motorola, but they aren't great for productivity, you'd quickly get frustrated

I'm looking for a cheap mobile phone for my 14-year-old daughter. She currently has a Blackview that she bought at the beginning of the year but has managed to crack the screen and damage the charging port so she needs a new one. She uses Whatsapp, Tiktok, Snapchat and the like, and uses it pretty much all day and takes lots of selfies Typical teenager. She is used to Android. Is there one you can recommend or anyone else? I've looked at this one and it doesn't support Whatsapp.

    Thank you

Check out the redmi 10c post Currys £99 I bought one and it was fualty and had to return. Some others on forums had the same issue. But others here might have purchased so can ask how it is going. It is a really good all rounder for £99 The best deals were on black Friday but went very quickly. (edited)

is this pure android and no bloat
    crazylegs's avatar
Yes it's Android One but very slow by today's standards, it sometimes feels like it's running in treacle (edited)

you can't have the free sim and the 5 off.

Spend another £20.01 to get £5 of nectar points too with the £5 code.

If your not using £5 off, just spend another £15.01. (edited)
    hgthompson's avatar
Plus it seems if you add the VOXI SIM card as part of the freebie deal, you also qualify for the £5 worth of nectar points (I'm assuming because the usual selling price of the phone + SIM ins £79.99 (they then knock £20 off at the checkout, but the checkout still seems to award the 1000 nectar points). Won't stack with the £5 off newsletter code though unfortunately if you add the free VOXI SIM card.

I've had a couple of different Redmi models & have been very happy with them. They were a lot more expensive than this, mind.

Unfortunately no USB-C charging port. Over the last 2 years or so, the tech I've bought has gravitated me away from USB micro.
    A good deal otherwise.

With a £5 Argos voucher and no bloat may pick one up later

It's a good find for a new phone. But for the money I think its better spent towards a used Xiaomi A3 or spend more for a used Pixel 4a. (edited)

These phones aren't actually that bad. I've still got Redmi 7A as a backup, that recently got Mui12 update It's outlasted my Nokia 7plus and Pixel 3A
  18. XiaofengXiaofeng_Xiaofeng's avatar
Will make you bang your head on the wall but at least it will probably work slightly better than a Redmi 9a.

Here's a question for you is this better than a £32.59 Grade C iPhone 6S that is in better condition than I would expect for a Grade C and allegedly has 99% battery health as a first phone for your eldest child?

I'd look to flog the SIM card to bring the price a bit lower as I have a 5p Lebara SIM liked up already .

Looks very good for under £60... Almost pure android it seems, but the 32gb storage would be a bit tight these days for many.

Which phone has a better camera quality, this or the OPPO A16s?
    chancooluk's avatar
A16s has better camera performance, and is the better device overall.

still love the metal feel...it's my stand-in phone but is totally battered!! Hence looking for the next back-up phone.

sorry to dm you, but do you see a cheaper back-up phone around at present than this at £55?

Hi, sorry to reach out seems a bit quiet at the moment so thinking you won't mind lol. Looking for a replacement Xiaomi Mi A2 for a parent, up to £200 , do you have any recommendations ? I'm tempted to just get the Pixel 6 from CPWH and pay ~£100 extra , but not sure he would appreciate the extra grunt and features...
