House phones for hard of hearing, recommendations please.

Posted 21st Dec 2022
Hi there, we are looking at getting my Dad new house phones as he can’t hear a word anyone is saying to him on his.  He can have a conversation but is very hard of hearing and wears hearing aids, we have to talk fairly loudly to him in person.   Can anyone recommend some  good house phones that have very loud receiver volume and ring tones please, the receiver volume is the most important.  Also he will need 2 sets one for upstairs and one for downstairs please.
thanks a bunch in advance folks.

Would it be worth getting his hearing checked again? Perhaps he needs new/better hearing aids? The RNID website has links for suitable telephones.

My dad was the same. Using a home phone that has speakerphone (hands free) functionality seemed to work for him. We used a BT model (Decor 2600).

I thought the idea of a printer with Internet dongle sat in hallway and family emailed that was a good idea to get messages through.

Trouble is when hearing goes nothing really works other than vibrating wrist band to alert for doorbell or phone call.
It's a bit technical for older folks and they don't want it.

If you do buy anything just make sure you turn volume down to test on yourself. I've tested non working phone earpieces only to feel the pain and ringing ear for days!

I'm hard of hearing and as somebody else mentioned above, using speakerphone is much easier to hear than through a handset! I had to teach an older relative how to do it too - it does take older people a little longer to get used to a new way of doing it, and you'll probably have to demonstrate it several times, but definitely worth giving it a go.

Thanks all, I will check out the giga sets.

He has just had his hearing done and aids adjusted last week.

And I think he would struggle with hands free, he is just stuck in his ways using handset to ear but it is worth trying I guess.

Any other recommendations would be brilliant.
