What’s the autofocus on this like say compared to Fujifilm’s latest X-H2S?
    christopherfairhead's avatar
It’s a bit rubbish to be honest. Amazing camera, but autofocus is just so naff on it. I haven’t found one setting that has worked for me, so basically exclusively shoot video manual.
For burst photos, I just pic a focus point and hope

An absolute bargain. I recently bought a used one over Xmas for £625 plus a kit lens for £200. I think this was a pricing error from Park Camera. If anyone is concerned about the autofocus don't be. It's actually pretty good if you use the right autofocus mode. This Youtuber solved it for me. That kit lens is amazing and you can get some pretty good bokeh with it if you use the compression of the lens at 60mm.

That's nearly the camera for free...amazing price.

1.27% tcb if it tracks and 1% chase. 32£ extra off 👌🏽 been looking for a really good camera i can take on holidays and my random days out. Is this worth getting? Or are there better/cheaper ones? Im no professional but i do love a good photo

The S5 is a really nice mirrorless camera that's on the compact side of mirrorless cameras and the f1.8 lenses are very sharp without being too bulky. The L-mount lens selection is pretty decent these days too.

It's autofocus is behind Sony/Canon/Nikon's best but this is substantially cheaper. Video AF isn't amazing, stills is pretty decent unless trying to track fast moving things. The EVF on the S5 is on the lower resolution side. Both of these are fixed in the S5 mk II but that's alot more expensive.

This effectively has the body of the camera for free. Blinding deal

Also cannot be understated how sharp images you'll get handheld thanks to ibis (edited)

Only issue i see is all the Lumix lenses are pretty expensive.

It's worth also mentioning second hand prices are coming down for these, i've seen them on mpb.com body only for £874 excellent condition if you want to go down that route.

I was browsing mpb a few days ago and they seem to have changed from detailing each item individually to just a generic grading system which disappointing.

Any suggestions for an amateur to mainly take photos of a 1 year old indoor with not so good lighting? I owned a Sony a500 many years ago and sold it due to lack of use.

A number of things I have considered: I want a full frame for low light but also don't want it to be heavy when I bring it outside. Easy enough to use so the mistress can use it too. Reasonably good continuous AF is needed too. I seriously considered the OM-D EM5 but noise from the small sensor and bad AF is going to be a problem.
    christopherfairhead's avatar
A EM5 will be fine with a really fast prime lens for your use.
But the s5 will obviously be better. The s5 is on the smaller side of full frame, but you’ll find you’ll need a bag for it still.
If I have it hanging around my neck for too long, it does begin to weigh a bit.
I do have the EM5 iii and S5 if you’d like a comparison

Same as big question here’s why full frame?

Autofocus on my Panasonic GX80 is fast and reliable for photo never ever had a problem…

Video though is a different story and I ALWAYS shoot in manual focus. If you tend to capture anything with fast movement like taking videos of the little ones it’s impossible, unless you’re extremely talented with the focus ring in manual.

If your budget can expand to the S5 do it it’s a professional grade camera and you’ll pay the price tag for it.

For everyday photography and videography as a hobby I found it extremely difficult to justify at the price….

As Dave said G9 is a hugely competent camera with very good photo and video options and it can be picked up for around £500 body only….if I was doing M43 again I’d have gone for this over my GX80.
If you can get over the sensor it’s feature packed; IBIS being at the top of the list along with 4K 50FPS video.

Plus the lens’ for M43 are a lot cheaper then for L mount on the S5. Equivalent focal length for example: M43 to L mount can be double or even triple the price so that’s something to factor in.

If you’re not into M43 I’d also take a look at the Fujifilm XT line of cameras with APS-C sensor. You’ll pay more money for the specs and the sensor plus the lens’ though…. Plenty to consider!

Let me know if you have anymore questions!

Dare I say it but an iPhone or pixel takes fantastic video of kids and focus is fine with no faffing. On this camera you would struggle to keep up to a toddler on video with manual focus and autofocus is ok but it may have delay locking on.

For photos however this would be fine. Although I find it does still miss focus at times for the eye. And with kids having a mobile is priceless as you need to be ready to shoot to capture that moment

    Good camera for beginner photographer?
    Deal_searcher's avatar
It depends on how beginner are you and what you want to achieve. If you want instant improvement in results you maybe better off with aps-c or M4/3 cameras. Cheaper entry level and quicker autofocus I find and more forgiving. If you want to grow and willing to learn then this is good long term investment as it has all the pro features.

What do you think guys moving from a Sony a7rii to this one?? Thanks

Adding PDAF largely fixes the main issue that Sony was ahead in in their latest cameras. I don't think you'd be disappointed. Nice selection of lenses for L-mount now too although not up to E mount yet I don't think. (edited)

Great deal for newcomers to the range but no longer a free lens in value when comparing to sold prices of the gear second hand. (edited)

Don't think you can go wrong. Especially with Panasonic recently adding the S5 mk II which looks to be a bit of a banger.

Will be nice when the S5II comes down to this price with its better phase detect AF

Great price for the camera + 3 lenses!
  16. Deal_searcher's avatar
Heat added. This has actually been this price for a few weeks now. I got this. Didn't want a new camera but plunged as I think it is a terrific deal
  17. scotinthecity's avatar
Got the S5ii version of this. Game changing

I've had my finger on the trigger for this for about a week. Seems like a great deal!

Currently on a G9 and this seems like a great time to get started on the L mount. (edited)

I still prefer my G9 and use it more than my S5 to be honest.

Can still order but you're right it's gone out of stock.
  20. stm26's avatar
That looks like a great deal. I've ended up spending more than this in total on an M43 and quite a few lenses (almost all 2nd hand). If it wasn't for the slightly larger size I'd be very tempted to swap for the better low light quality.

If you stick to the S5 and the F1.8 primes it's no bigger than a G90/G9 with a similar lens.

    ordered, hope it comes soon
