Just a heads up using Booking.com - I booked a hotel months in advance for a concert I was attending and paid in full at booking. When I tried to book into the hotel I was told my booking had been cancelled (with no explanation) and I was left scouring the hotels around Birmingham in the freezing cold trying to find a hotel the night a major big name concert was taking place - I ended up having to pay an absolute fortune for a twin room in a 2* hotel as it was all I could find.

Later I found out that they use a virtual credit card with their client hotels which doesn't make the payment until the day before - if this fails or goes wrong in any way (regardless of whether you have paid in full or not) then the hotel will cancel the booking.

Booking.com didn't give a flying fig when I called them and since sharing my experience with others, I have found tons of people they have also done this too. Buyer beware!

Booking.com customer service is easily the worst I've ever come across. They wash their hands of the whole thing - happy to take a cut as the middleman, for which you expect some kind of security or customer contact if (when) something goes wrong with your booking.

They deliberately make it as difficult as possible to contact them - on par with couriers like Evri - with no email, website form, or live chat available. If you do happen to get through on the phone, their advice is just "contact the host". Why is that my job?! (edited)

Did you noticed prices went up £20 ? Happened to mine hotel

    They do a price match guarantee, so simply find it cheaper elsewhere if you believe they are price hiking and claim the difference plus you get the cashback still;

    We Price Match
You can claim a refund for the difference if you happen to find your reservation cheaper on another website.
Just remember to contact us after booking with us and at least 24 hours before your check-in date. You'll need to provide us with the link to the other offer and it must be online and available when we check.
    We Price Match checklist

The other offer must be for the same property and accommodation type.

The other offer must be for the same check in and check out dates.

The other offer must have the same cancellation policy and conditions.
When can't you make a claim?

If the other offer is on a website that doesn’t reveal the property or accommodation type you’ll be staying in until after booking.

If the other offer is part of a loyalty or rewards programme. We define this type of other offer as any situation where a customer gets a reduced price from a property or other website as a reward for repeat business, logging in, entering a coupon code, referring other customers, or performing any other action which then changes the initially shown price.

If your current Booking.com booking is a Partner offer, i.e. an offer that's labelled as 'Partner Offer' on our platform (these offers are made available by Booking.com partner companies) or if you're comparing the other offer with one of these Partner Offers on our platform.

If anyone needs to book train travel to their hotel, Transport For Wales are also offering 3% cashback - used it a few times up in Scotland and tracks perfectly after about 30 mins.

    topcashback.co.uk/tra…es/

Chiltern are offering cashback also, lower for non-Chiltern routes though.

    topcashback.co.uk/chi…ys/

Both can sell any train tickets in the UK with no booking fees (e.g. TFW can sell train tickets for anywhere in England/Scotland too!)

Better than the Trainline who often charge additional fees (Trainline also offer cashback through TCB, along with Raileasy). (edited)

Just went to use this. Looking to book a car rental... Searched through the topcashback link and prices are over £50 higher than I when we search normally on booking.com.....
    christobal's avatar
Yep this happens on hotels too
  5. Sazandy25's avatar
Anybody know if taxes will be included in the £50+ spend?
    TopCashbackRep's avatar
    Hey

We do mention on the retailer's offer page about VAT, delivery and other charges not being included in the cashback calculation however if you have made your purchase and do not see a bonus for this reason please drop us a DM and we can take a closer look.

    Best wishes Phil

How long is average time for booking.com cashback on top cashback
    blahblahblah1234's avatar
Normally payable 4 to 8 weeks after completion of your stay.
I say "normally", because I have one cashback outstanding for over £60 for a stay that was completed in August 2022.
Annoying it's that particular one, usually I have no problems with booking .com cashback tracking to payable.

    Do they price match themselves?
That's what some are saying, people seeing different prices depending whether or not you click thru TCB.

What I suspect is happening, the base price is the same, but the level or type of discounts being applied can vary (e.g. Booking .com Genius discount, app/mobile only price, etc...).
Then it falls into a bit of a grey area.
  8. kashiboi's avatar
Why does TCB always track a slightly lower amount.
I just booked something on Booking.com for £50.59.. I actually got charged £50.92.

Yet TCB tracked the transaction at £49.53 so therefore it looks like I am just shy of the £50 threshold, which is incorrect, but it means the £20 is not showing up
    Tina_'s avatar
For my case, the value is not just sightly lower...my booking is £50.38 and only £36 tracked....

Will it count if I proceed to pay for a booking I made that I haven't yet paid? Or do I have to cancel and rebook?
    blahblahblah1234's avatar
It won't work, you need to make a new booking after opting into the bonus.
  10. allyharp86's avatar
Does the £20 show up as pending already for those that have booked? Is it listed as part of the same booking.com cashback, or a separate item?
I've just got £9.09 cashback pending. No mention of the £20 so far
    bazr's avatar
Separate item. The £20 shows up on its own as the bonus.

    24 Jan 2023 £60.41 £3.44
    pending
    24 Jan 2023 £0.00 £20.00
    pending (edited)

Definitely got to be careful of topcashback pricing through their links, as quite often the price for hotel and holiday bookings is higher to account for their cashback.

Always do another price check to compare with no affiliate links.
    sydney871's avatar
Totally agree. Normally you would get a better discount as a genius member. Somehow you cannot get the genius prices if clicked through TCB.
  12. herrbz's avatar
    Booking.com are an awful company.
  13. azzap's avatar
So inc tax etc how much roughly do we need to spend to trigger the £20 bonus?
    TopCashbackRep's avatar
    Hey

The bonus was on £50+ spends with eligible booking.com purchases and if you did this and did not see a bonus after seven days from the purchase cashback tracking please drop us a DM with your username

Has anyone had any experience of taxis through booking.com especially in a different country? Thanks

Daughter booked Taxis twice last week when we were in Spain. Barcelona airport to city centre and back again a week later. Perfect service both times. Will use booking.com again
  19. sarkymark1's avatar
Good deal. Booked Barcelona for a week next January and due to receive £20 bonus plus £26 cashback. My experience is they usually payup a couple of weeks/months after you completed your stay. I also benefitted from a 'Genius' discount on Booking. com and in addition used my work perks scheme for an additional £2/3 or so. Tasty!
  20. Lloyd_Mcallister's avatar
Just made a booking to claim the cashback, but only afterwards booking.com stated that it’s a prepaying method so no actual transaction has happened (even though other hotels stated they were no fee booking). Will I still get my cashback?
  21. wattsio1's avatar
a lot of the hotels are 'pay at property' so does this mean you won't get the offer? weird there's no mention of thisin the t and c's, doesn't definitively say it has to be where a hotel is paid for right away which would rule most hotels out!
    wattsio1's avatar
Think it's gone through though for £10, not the advertised £20. it tells you what cashback you'll get at the payment page. I also opted to pay now rather than on arrival though not sure that makes a difference.
  22. fishie74's avatar
Thanks OP....would have missed this, as I usually use Quidco. Booked a hotel for £55 and have £23 in cashback pending...result (as long as it pays out!) Really like the fact topcashack was displayed on the site and the cashback amount you'll receive (although rounded up and not completely accurate) is displayed throughout.
    Wolfsbane2k's avatar
Careful on that... Booking.com cashback price Is based on ex vat prices, so a £55 total booking won't count.
  23. Sqsq's avatar
In my experience topcashback only pay after the trip , which means having to wait 6 months for cashback. Then it declines after trip because referral agent has changed since booking/paying. Always some excuse.
    deleted2816050's avatar
That’s why tcb is and not worth the bother

Good deal but annoying I can't book transfers just accommodation. Can do it on their normal website but the TCB one doesn't bring up transfers shame but good for those who need it
  28. CheekyMunkey's avatar
So if I wanted a two night stay I could literally just book two separate nights and get £20 off each night. Rather than £20 off a two night booking? If so thats a decent deal.
    harmageddon's avatar
can't remember reading its just for one booking, so in theory yes

Yeah hotel I had previously booked for £80 via reserving.com is now £125 on same date via booking.com so no good for me. Heat added though as may be some bargains for some (edited)

    shame it's one transaction only.
I had 2 hotels to book. Total being over £50 (pre-tax) but unlike Agoda, Booking doesn't let you add them to a basket and pay once.So I've had to do ti as 2 separate bookings. It's tracked but only at 6%. Not holding my breath on the £20
  31. Wolfsbane2k's avatar
Thanks for that, am in need of a hotel next week and had been umming and arring about which one to go for for a few days.

This both forced my hand in booking somewhere, and as long as it tracks through means that I got a better room for cheaper than id been looking for elsewhere, as base room price was £48 ex vat, (56 Inc vat) upgrade £57 ex vat (68 Inc), less £20 off!

    Cheers!
