So having a starter package is the minimum needed for this valve to work? can i just get one of this and control the radiator itself via the app ?

You need "Tado Bridge" to connect TRV to the app. And Bridge comes only as part of starter packs

I bought two of these but now returning as the perceived cost effectiveness is just not there.
My use case like many others was to heat just 1 or 2 rooms during day for home working.
But putting just tado trv in one room does not solve this as when this is on, all non-tado rads will also be on. Only way this works better is if you are putting these in majority of rooms which is several hundred pounds and not worth it for me. Also, looking at some of the heatgeek videos, I am not sure putting too many zones in house worthwhile in any case.
I am now using a smart plug and Alexa heat sensor to heat the specific small room using electric heater when temp drops below certain degrees during working hours. that way my heating system is only working when needed for higher occupancy. I have also put in for electric heater to not come on if room is detected to be empty.

This is a problem. I’ve got 4 of them in the main rooms and the others I’ve turned off the rads. It is more convenient to turn off rooms when not used.

I have got Tado thermostats in each room, apart from one.
In my extension the thermostat can never connect to the bridge.
When I have enquired about this before, I was told that it uses radio frequency.

I notice that this one says WiFi, does anyone know if this is more likely to be able to connect please

try to position the hub as central as possible. I've got mine slap bang in the middle and it still loses the livingroom connection daily. I've asked tado for years to come out with a repeater bridge or allow multiple hubs but the market isn't there they say - most people have smaller modern homes with thin walls. not 100+ year old thick walls like mine

saying that, with Tado on every single radiator, I've easily clawed back the outlay several times over in the past 5-6 years I've had it. love it.

    Good price for single valve.

Is it worth having one of these on every radiator?

That's what I have, all except one radiator where the wall thermostat is. I bought it a couple of years ago from Costco as a starter kit with 8 trvs for £390. I've had 2 fail but after emailing and sending them a few pics they sent out new ones

Just to chuck my thoughts in..

Bought the tado starter kit then bought 4 smart TRVs

Soon realised I needed 2 more to get the benefits.

You do need to fully endorse the scheme especially when working from home. It's cost me
    £89.99 starter kit
    £179.99 for 4 Smart TRV's
    £75 for 2 smart TRV's
So all on all around £340 and I think it's worth it. Above prices are based on various deals and eBay for TRVs .

When working from home I can heat 2 rooms instead of the whole house which is a massive benefit. Too early to tell if the price is reflected in the bills but I'm happy and still for the bathroom ones on trad TRV's

I've had a similar experience, and can definitely say that the savings will come over the months (years), by only turning on the radiators in the rooms which are in use.

I had purchased the Starter Kit for £99.99 from ScrewFix and 2 x Quattro TRV packs for £400, and the 9th one for £60; total £559.99. It's a big investment, but turning on the radiators only in the rooms that are in use has been cost saving. We would normally use the electric heater in the rooms when working from home, but it's much more expensive having the electric heater on, than the gas boiler to heat selected room(s).

Gas consumption during Spring / Summer is obviously much lower, so the heating kit such as radiators / TRVs / etc will drop in price.

    You’re welcome.

These are usually £50 each when bought in a pack of 4 (Quattro pack), but difficult to find cheap on their own. So it’s always awkward having to buy the odd one.

    Glad to have helped.
