I bought this from same seller a few months ago. Came with HD screen and feels zippy enough for normal office work and light enough to carry around.

Would seem I got very lucky with this.

Laptop in immaculate condition. Keys are probably painted ones, but I have no reference point to compare it to.

Battery at around 93%. 65W charger.

But somehow managed to receive the 256/8350U/FHD version even though I bought the one from this thread. Hopefully many others have the same luck.

It does seem to be very random, which is unfortunate. Either way, good luck

Mine came with 65W charger. And they are USB-C.

I wonder what battery life you can expect on these? I guess it's a lottery but has anyone experience of buying a refurbished x280?

It will depend on how it was used in it's previous life.

I got one the other week and am getting a very respectable use from a charge, (several hours - 6+).

Mine had been cycled more than perhaps I'd like but the battery seems in good shape.

    Another question, it says:

    • Ethernet: None

Is that simply the lack of RJ45 port for a wired connection? Does it has wifi built-in?

The proprietary adapters aren't too expensive or you could get a USB to ethernet adapter even cheaper. Supposedly the proprietary adapter is better as it has a direct connection rather than going via usb. I already have the adapter as one came with my work Yoga X13 although tbh I never even took it out the box. Worth noting the adapter blocks the usb c/thunderbolt port. (edited)

Mine arrived...HD screen only which is a downer but otherwise really quite impressed with the condition. Battery almost fully charged out the box and showing 7-8 hrs life. Display a bit washed out looking but generally can't fault it so far for the cash!

You can replace the LCD on these really easily. You’ll find a panel on eBay, just need to make sure you get the right part. Paid about £40 for mine.

This will still be miles better than a cheap £300 laptop from Currys

If this comes with a full HD screen - as others have recently had - the only downside is the soldered RAM. Without that issue, this would be so hot it would be smouldering. Even with that limitation, its still tempting.

Yes, agreed. But even with a standard HD display, it’s still a smashing price. Nothing comes close for this price.

    A few things to note:

This may well have an overpainted keyboard. Don't necessarily let that put you off, they look tidy. Mine has and I can live with it.

As others have suggested, it will outperform anything you can get for £300 new, easily.

I've had a few problems with my recent orders from them (no problems in the past) - but they have been ok to deal with and have resolved issues.

Can't decide whether it's worth the extra for the slight cpu boost and bigger ssd (I already have a second ssd to fit anyway). None upgradable ram is a major let down but otherwise great.

*edit* I went for the £150 one. (edited)

Heat added - great price for what it is - I personally wouldn't bother with the £150 version, a 240GB SSD can be had for less than the £22.50 difference.
8GB is about the sweet spot for this spec, not really an issue that it's not upgradeable, 16GB would be nice to have though!
So tempted as I can't really justify spending >£2k on a new machine atm.

Any idea on how good this would be as a Plex Media Server?- especially regarding its power consumption if the battery was to be taken out and the screen switched off?

Power wise you’d be better with a pi unless you’re doing some complex conversions. I use a pi 2 for standard downloaded media and it works great.

We give out similar thinkpads in work and they could run it no problem. Laptops really aren’t designed to be in all the time though.

For those with one: does the fan spin up much when using to surf the 'net? Does it run quietly?

After reading the review linked to by myOpinion2 it says it's nice and quite but thought I'd ask for opinions from others that have one.

It's not too loud, but a trick with these Lenovo laptops is to go into advanced power options and set max CPU limit to around 95% from the default 100%. Mine rarely comes on now. You won't feel a discernible drop in speed.
Of course, it's easy to replace the thermal paste on these, after 2-3 years of daily use it would be suboptimal. (edited)

As someone who cut his teeth with a 486 back in the day, I'm a real newbie with modern specs; would this run a few gmail tabs on Edge, a Notion database, or google docs smoothly?

Yes, absolutely. These are a better machine than the vast majority f £300 budget machines. They are built to last. Pot luck, of course on a 2nd user machine, but the company selling these are excellent and will sort you out if you have any issues whatsoever. Nothing comes close for the price, plus they are modern, sleek and look well. If you need to hook other kit, like LAN up, then go for a USB C hub from Amazon with LAN and power delivery. In a good day, you'll get change from £20, but never more than £30 for one and you'll get all the input and output you need. The X280 should also be thunderbolt compatible on the 2 x ports on the left hand side, so external GPUs etc supported at 40Gbps. You don't need anything else in reality.
