Just got back off this for my first ever cruise experience. I can’t recommend if it enough! Absolutely loved it.

    Things I learnt.
Get them to empty your mini bar and if you have the drinks package (we did) stock it with your own drinks
If it stops in Hamburg on a Sunday. Don’t leave the ship early. It was dead till 1
Book everyone you want early. Shows, specialality restaurants, cheaper
    The Wi-Fi worked fine
The casino was my fave place. Limited kids and the bar was fun.

The staff are so friendly. Really can’t praise them enough.

We’ll be going again next year.

Just been on this exact cruise, first one ever. Paid just over £500 including a basic drinks package. Great food, great fun, excellent staff and facilities.

I would highly recommend the carousel shows, Alkymea was particularly good and was €9 with a cocktail if you book in advance.

One of our party got the alcoholic drink package, and one strange thing was that they weren't able to order canned drinks at any time on the ship, it was always poured into a glass. This isn't an issue on the alcohol free drinks package.

Unfortunately, we missed our port at La Havre due to strikes in France. The weather wasn't the best and I ended up catching norovirus too for the final 2 days which wasn't much fun.

My advice would be, if you can, travel off peak as there was a lot of sickness on board due to kids/Easter holidays and it was incredibly busy at points.

That being said, it didn't spoil my trip, and I have already booked another cruise on P&O later in the year. I read a lot of negative stuff about MSC online before I went away, and I would disagree with a lot that's been said about the food quality and on board entertainment. The variety of bread and fresh cheeses was particularly nice

Did the exact one in early March we went to Amsterdam as French on Strike premium drinks package cost me £200 when I booked it and drank my money's worth in first two nights

Another noob question by me. So I was inquireing about a trip with Iglu and I asked about wifi. She said it was £50 a week per person for 1 device on MSC for a 7 night trip. That sounded a bit steep to me. Is that really how much it costs? I know when Im in the ports I can probably switch to the local phone network but £50 sounds extortionate.

Can anyone confirm this? Thanks again.

Yes wifi is that expensive and that’s probably the basic version where you can not stream content like YouTube (well the other wifi option which is more expensive but can stream to be honest is not much faster I think it is like 1.5mb/a)

Anyone still thinking and did not want the ports well the ship that keeps on giving has Norway 12 May 7n £460pp, with drinks under £560pp(2pax).

The 5 night one actually represents better value (£36 a night) if you can get a cheap flight to Hamburg
    getmore4less's avatar
    getmore4less
There are TA doing a packages flight hotel Hamburg first.

Eg Cruisenation From around £400-£450 depending on airport and hotel.

As the ship dock on a Sunday by doing the package you actually get to do Hamburg when places are open.

Issue then is where to park and join up with you car with a flight out and return to Southampton.

In terms of cruise lines, where does MSC sit? (edited)

I’d say Ryanair with extra leg room. Does the job but most things cost more.

What is the dress code on these cruises?
    2015's avatar
    2015
No real dress code at all. There will be a gala night where everyone dresses up nicely with suit jackets and dresses. Rest of the time it’s dress as you please

Virtuosa is 25 years newer, 70m longer, up to 3x as many passengers

Seascanner is overpriced for this cruise.

Available at £330 or £530 with package if you shop around.

    Sandy1012:

    Latest Masters menu..

Doubt that is the current menu as the Virtuosa is still operating in Euros.

    Where did it come from?

Looks like an old menu from 2021 before the prices dropped.
    Oct 2022 the litre was £10, changed 4 Nov 2022 to €10+service.

That has been the prices reported by those cruising during March.

Go to cruise mummy website, all the latest menu's are shown. I was on this ship in August. The prices you see are correct. The prices were in pounds, not euro's.

Cruise mummy well known for out of date information.
Be surprised if they got the new £ menus before they hit the ship

The ship changed to euros in November.

Was on the ship Oct, Nov and March is still euros, will be changing back to £ soon for the summer season.

Here is the Oct menu just before they changed to euros(same numbers just euros+service) if you go to the other Virtuosa threads plenty of menu post by other more recent cruisers from Feb & March.

Noob question here. Do you really need to get the drinks package? I mean I don't really drink. Water/tea/coffee/soft drinks work for me.

If say I went with my parents and got two cabins. If I took the drinks package could I get drinks and just give them to them? Lol. If my dad wants some booze etc. (edited)

We have done one without the package we were fine I like a drink OH lightweight, in port most days so no daytime drinking on ship
Our total was cheaper than the package would have been

People are basing some of their comments on out of date information.

In a couple of weeks the new pricing in £ will be active so any real live current information will be out of date then as well until the new menus and prices get out..

Issue you can have is the free stuff is in cabin or Buffet, you can get water from the bars but they prefer to give you bottled at cost.
Also the buffet coffee is not great, we go tea when not on the package but hit the caps and expresso when on it

When we were PAYG we got looked after.

Sharing is not allowed, in practice it does happen but you have to accept the risk you an lose your package without refund.

its not a package no package all the time as the cost varies by cruise you have to assess each cruise at time of booking.
our no package cruise it was £30pppd and we got under that.

On these 7n it has been around £25pppd which is fine and close to our breakeven so convenient to just take it and we did more ship days so used it more.

As posted on the 12n 30th April(no solos rates when I checked) you can get it for £180pp that's £15pppd which most people can hit with fancy coffee soft water bottles and the odd alcohol drink, also you then don't have to hang around dad feeding him drinks

Each will have their own cut off point where they are better PAYG.

the 14n Iceland trip has had 2 prices at different times roughly £700+£500 or £900+£300 for some the 700 no package will be the best for others it won't matter as the total is the same.

That post has the euro prices if you want to check the soft drinks coffee etc €3-€4.

Other agents still have this in the range £500-£550. with drinks.

If still undecided or want something a little more substantial/warmer.
30th April 12n canaries run is available from around £899 £1,079 with drinks on MSC going direct
    msccruises.co.uk/Boo…SOU
can also apply diamond discount (£854, £1025)

TA should get this down to around £900 with drinks.

    no solo available on MSC

Kids just pay for the minors(£159) family of 4 2476 before TA discounts.

Any updates on the change of schedule if the french strike again on Thursday.

Did one of these holiday cruise packed with 1700 kids filling all those multi Beth cabins very different experience to the regular trips with more normal passenger loads.
How many kids on this one?

Have they said when they change back to £, when they changed to euros in November it was chaos as it delayed embarkation of the following cruise.

How full was the carpark as the Oct family full criuise was another chaos situation as many came by car and ABP could not cope.

So if there has to be a Ryanair/EasyJet or the Cruise Industry, would it be P&O/Carnival or other lines?
