Wow. I've always wanted to see the Fjords, and this is less than £100 a night for transport, accommodation, and food - in Norway!

Will I have any further expenses if I book? And are soft drinks and water included?

    Thanks

Well I have a different question. This cruise is ideal for me & my wife ,but I just can’t get past the fact of rough seas = sea sickness, which I’m prone to. What’s a massive boat like this like, on the North Sea?
I’m haunted by a 8 hour overnight cross channel ferry crossing when I was a teenager, when wandering on deck at night to make myself feel better, being witness to suffering people and sudden Niagara Falls of vomit from decks above, from not 1, but several different decks. You couldn’t escape from people who would cheerfully had shot themselves, had they been able.
Luckily for me, the departure dock is just minutes away from my home and we often drive down to see these cruise boats go out, as they pass the final bit of beach near us.
I’d love to be on one but just take the easy option of a occasion package holiday instead. (edited)

Was on this boat last month and you hardly notice it’s moving. The weather was fairly stormy for a few days as well. That was the only time I felt the boat move. A few times. Not for long and not really worth mentioning.

It’s nothing like overnight ferries. This ship is huge and has stabilisers.

I can’t wait to go back on!

This is one of the cheaper bars to give you an idea of prices, remember ALL PLUS 15% if bought on board!

Now start adding up a day by the pool and what you would order to stay refreshed and chilled and see by 11pm where you are at price wise then compare to the package offered to you.

Premium package allows drink up to and including £14, Easy Plus up to £9 and Easy is up to £7 so beers on draught in bottles and some cocktails plus house wine and all soft drinks, waters (sparkling /still) teas, various coffees and hot chocolate. (see list on menu)

    Hope it helps!

That's really useful - thank you! Looks like pretty much everything will be included there then, with the Premium package - glad to see a few sparkling wines all included. For the wine and sodas that say 1L/330ml, I can just ask them for a few bottles/cans, and take them back to the room for later then I guess?

I read that it's one drink at a time - does that mean we both need to go to the bar together every time, or can my husband take both our cards (if that's how it works?) and order eg a beer and a wine while I sit on my backside?!

Really coming around to the idea of a cruise, but I have 2 young kids. I wouldn't expect any great deals in the summer holidays but do deals ever come up for other half terms (easter, october, feb etc)? Of course I don't expect as cheap as this deal but maybe in the £1k to 1.5k range?
I had a poke around and there was a 5 night cruise on MSC Virtuosa for £1150 for 2A+2C in October half term, I thought that seemed a good price, just the stops didn't appeal to us.

MSC is family friendly, some seriously good deals.
Last Oct 1/2 term was 12 nights and loads took their kids out of school.

They made the cruises fit better to 1/2 term this year which will increase demand

Just got off the ship yesterday, was a 3 night trip from hell booze cruise bender, be warned if the trip is a short one and includes a Sat and Sun it will be totally different to a weeks cruise.

Anyway, got home yesterday and a couple of the forum members had been on with me, they had even done the 3 nighter before and I had done the 3 nighter before that last week, one is staying on for this 6 night trip to Las Palmas and also doing the 6 night return leg Las Palmas to Southampton, the other is flying out to meet him and doing the return leg, I just decided to do the same so I am flying out on Saturday to meet the ship and cruise back, booked on MSC USA website, you can call them as well, cost for a solo passenger is:

    Cruise $198 USD
Port fees and taxes $150 USD
    Tips $70 USD

I also bought Easy drinks package $294
    Wifi package $53
    But these are optional

You just need your flights out there, I could only get a business class flight with BA at over £450, business class on these routes is a total waste of money as its the same 3 seats but with the centre blocked off, you get in the airport lounges but I am BA Gold and get there free anyway even if in economy, anyway that arrives at 12.50pm from LGW on Sat so just need a 25 min cab ride to the ship from the airport. Another forum member is flying out the night before with Veuling airlines and staying a night in a hotel.

It may suite someone, I have always had the Premium drinks package but don't drink champagne or cocktails so been a bit of a waste of money, but with seascanner you only ever get the choice of nothing or premium.

Other drinks package available prices are:
    Premium £305
    Easy Plus £305
Easy £234 (includes bottled beer, draught beer, house wines and spirits, soft drinks, teas coffees etc, that will do me!

    Still cabins available!

7th one down, all these are SOLO prices so FANTASTIC deals: msccruisesusa.com/cru…ies

Seascanner offer only the premium as thats the one that theres usually a really good offer on. For example on this cruise its just £184 extra for the full week to go to Premium drinks at the time of booking.

I just got back from a cruise on this very ship today; I had a really good time. Whilst I think communication from MSC and onboard staff could be far better, the service and variety of events, cabins, and food and drink were brilliant - Just be prepared to queue often, and deal with a lot of whinging old Brits. I had a premium extra drinks package deal which was definitely worth it, as most drinks cost €9 each on average otherwise. Food was way above expectations, plentiful and always hot. Staff were friendly, very attentive and took pride in everything they did. Parking is best at West Quay car park at £5 per day, a five minute taxi journey from the port - Or just walk it for 15-20m like I did.

Whinging old Brit here -- I was on the same cruise! Hadn't realized it was going to be a booze cruise full of hen parties! Probably wouldn't be as bad on a longer cruise. We found the main dining rooms a disappointment with little ambience and small portions (and my partner had to send an inedible steak back) but the buffet is very good. The main public areas of the ship are basically a shopping mall with bars, which is OK if you like a lot of bling and noise. Cabin was excellent.

What are the embarking / disembarking times ?
    getmore4less's avatar
    getmore4less
The earliest they have started is 10am(security) bag drop opens a bit earlier.
Final check in will depend on the departure time and how long they employ the terminal staff.

Disembark around 30min-1hr after arrival for self walk off, if you want the bag service a bit longer as they nee to offload and prepare the baggage hall.

They have not been too fussed about kicking people off, by around 10 am most have gone so easy to find bags in a near empty hall and less traffic going out of port.

we just hang around as not in hurry and avoid any lines that way.

if using ABP they have had holdups getting people into the car park, this week on more ships are about using the same car park so it will get busier.

    Depends on cabin.

    Insides have pull down Pullman's.

Balconies have a double bunk sofa bed.

Some big ocean views have a permanent bunks in an alcove.

Check out YouTube for examples plenty of Virtuosa done over the last 6month or so by Brits.

I’m so excited, never been on a cruise before and haven’t much of a clue what to expect, but we booked this yesterday!!
We’ve gone for the cheapest balcony room (which from looking on YouTube today seems to be one that’ll likely have the view partially obscured by lifeboats but that’s fine for me), and we went for the drinks package on booking, so it was £800-odds each.

When I log in on MSC site though, there’s no mention of drinks, and the option to purchase the package we’ve already booked is available. Do I need to do something?

I’ve also just signed up for a MSC status match which might get a few minor perks, using my IHG hotel reward clubs - looks like they accept virtually anything.

Any tips or links to a basic idiot guide to cruising?! Do we need to wear smart stuff or is jeans and a T-shirt ok?

My Google is about to explode
    panddda's avatar
    panddda
Brilliant, thanks guys! I’ve joined a FB group specific to that cruise and been watching a bit of YouTube so I’m getting there slowly. So much stuff I’d never have considered, like needing cruise luggage tags, not taking an iron (not that I usually would anyway - I just assume there’s be one for any odd creases, but apparently not!) and that magnets stick to the walls 😳
