Looks a bargain, but one of those 'wants' not need items for me:)

A few questions for a novice please:

    - How long does it take to reach temp?
    - How long do the pellets last?
    - Does it run off battery or mains?

    Thanks

As i say I have a Smokefire, that takes approx 15 minutes to get to 225F from start up (most commonly used temp for lo&slo) another 5 minutes to get to 600F. Once temp is set it really is a case of set and forget, they're so reliable. You do get hotspots but a few warburtons rolls on your first startup over the grill will show you where they are, usually.

I estimate I get 2 hours per kg (most bags are 9kg and around £17-20 a bag) always use branded pellets and not bio mass ones as full of fillers and not suited to pellet grills

Runs off mains, I use mine in all weathers, hot or below freezing except persistent or heavy rain showers (edited)

This is advertised to reach temperatures 180-600F via PID controller and is meant to be able to do open flame searing of 1000F.

Personally for steak I like to do it on a screaming hot cast iron pan on my grill at around 550F-600F once sealed add some butter, thyme and garlic to pan and coat it in that, takes about 3-4 mins for a 3/4 inch thick ribeye, but you can easily lo&slo the steak at 180F on the grill till the IT reaches 110F and then crank it up to 600F+ and sear it for 30-45 seconds each side if you prefer

I own 5 different grills charcoal, gas and pellet and I use the pellet grill most out of all of them, once you own one, it makes life so much easier and the food (variety of cooks as well) beats any of the others for me, absolutely no regrets buying my pellet grill. Smoke flavour isn't as strong as a charcoal grill, but not everyone likes a strong smoky taste and the mellower flavour a pellet grill produces, suits my wife far more than charcoal and wood (edited)

I’ve just added a Weber 57 kettle to my Weber e610 gas grill, now I’m looking at this! Is it really convenience over a kettle grill or is it something more?

Damn shame Costco don't deliver to Northern Ireland as I'm in the market for a pellet grill. I'm tempted to get this sent to my mum and get a courier to collect. Any idea how big and heavy the box will be? Probably too big?
    sotv's avatar
    Author
It's heavy @ 80kg a few sellers on Ebay have reduced their price too, this one seems to ship to NI and selling for £584.99 ebay.co.uk/itm…19? whether they offer the guarantee and aftercare Costco do?
  4. floz's avatar
Any idea if this is in the warehouse too? Would be good to take a look before buying. This deal should be well north of 500!
    adaminyei's avatar
I have looked in Bristol and cardiff and neither stock it in the warehouse

Anyone know how noisy these things are? Auger and fan noise levels etc.
    TIA
    sotv's avatar
    Author
Can't answer for this one, but start up and shutdown on mine (15 minutes) you can hear the fan, but little or nothing during cook once temp reached, unless you increase the temp again during mid cook

If you can hear the Augur, it is usually an indication something is wrong, pellets or dust compacted in it and struggling to turn or not sitting right. (edited)

Saw this last night and said I’d sleep on it.
Had an incredible bbq around a friends this weekend just gone and he’s got a brilliant Traeger that he was using and it all came out incredible.

Didn’t end up sleeping on this and bought last night. Costco had a habit of taking a crazy amount of money off items then never doing it again.

Now have a Weber Smokey Mountain, 2023 Aldi Kamado and this soon to arrive.
Mrs is going to kill me….

This looks to be a bargain, I'm almost tempted to add to my collection with this one.
As you say, I don't think there is a better value pellet grill available at the moment....nor have I seen one previously.

You might find it will, I have a Pit Barrel, Master Touch and ProQ for charcoal, but alongside my pellet Grill and Genesis Gas, probably use them less than a handful of times a year between the three of them. But still loathed to give any of them up

Thank you - just bought this - looks like a fantastic price - and I’ve learnt my lesson on Costco clearance deals not to wait around!

Truly think this is one of the best BBQ deals I've posted (assume its a clearance price)? Considering the Ninja Woodfire everybody is raving about is £349, you can get a full sized, fully functioning, branded pellet grill for just £100 more here

Cant find the cooking area dimensions but says 1014 square inches of cooking area, it must be a minimum of 24x18 inches but more than likely 36x18 inches but can't confirm that (if it is though this is like a £1000 cheaper than an equivalent sized Weber or Traeger)

    Manufacturers homepage louisiana-grills.com/pro…ll?

Don't own this model (got a Weber Smokefire for 3 years) , but if you have any pellet grill questions, happy to answer them if I can (edited)
  12. emjay2k71's avatar
Can this be used a regular bbq and reach temperatures of a kettle?

I’m in the market for a new bbq and looking at this it would be great if it could do both direct and indirect cooking?

There is a smaller 24" branded Camp Chef Pellet Grill for sale from Ebay here for £399 delivered if interested ebay.co.uk/itm…03? but for the extra £50 this one from Costco looks a better buy spec and size wise
  15. Kushan's avatar
Gosh, that is a stonking good deal, I am surprised this isn't hotter. Been wanting a smoker for ages but held off waiting for a good pellet smoker, this seems to be the one for me!
    sotv's avatar

Think posting it early on a Monday morning, rather than later in the evening means it doesn't get the views + not everyone gets or understands the benefits and ease of lo&slo or searing with pellets grills, over traditional methods of cooking.

But anyone in the market for a pellet grill, this is a great price for what it offers.

Amazing to think a small portable grill like the Ninja Woodfire with ability to add a little smoke via pellets, can get hot on here and sell out for £300, when you could get a full sized one like this with all the bells and whistles for £150 more
  16. adaminyei's avatar
Does this come with a cover? If not, anyone know if there is one available elsewhere online?
    sotv's avatar
    Author
Not sure, but if ordering would wait till received befored ordering a cover if it doesn't, because I feel the depth measurement of 126.5cm includes the front shelf extended and think the depth needed for a cover would be actually less than this once it is lain flat against the grill when not in use. I bought the Costco Traeger last year and wish I'd have saw this deal.
    Galo's avatar
Really! why’s that, I thought they were good?
  18. Hasn1244's avatar
Hi I already have a kamado joe junior which has pretty decent temp control once you get hang of the vents. Would this add any benefit or do food in any different way? What I'm asking is would it be waste of money! Lol

Size wise will be the biggest difference you're looking at 6 racks of ribs laid flat or 7kg full packer brisket plus room to spare on the bottom grate. If you like cooking with cast iron skillets (x2) or paella pans, these accomodate them comfortably. Depends if you cook for more than 3 or 4 people at once during the year
  19. steveuk's avatar
thanks OP, what pellets would you recommend?
    sotv's avatar

My pellet grill doesn't get on with all makes of pellets, I use either Weber or Cookinpellets from Amazon, although a shop called American BBQ have started stocking Lumberjack Char Hickory that work on my grill and are really popular in the States and meant to impart a charcoal smoke flavour to the cooks. Got 3 bags on order and hope to try them out soon.

Different pellets work best with different meats/fish

I like Hickory/Oak/Cherry for Beef (You can use Mesquite as well but I find it too strong)

Apple/Cherry/Plum/Alder For Pork, Chicken or Fish

Pellets like charcoal have increased in price since the war in Ukraine, but you shouldn't pay more than £2 a kg and if you can find them for £1.50-£1.70 kg then I'd count that as a deal at current prices

Just buy branded pellets and not the biomass or cat litter ones as they aren't suitable for cooking
  20. bluezero's avatar
is this overkill if I just want a normal BBQ
    sotv's avatar
    Author
Probably, if you just want to mainly BBQ, a decent kettle or gas BBQ will more than likely suit your needs, if you're more interested in lo&slo cooking then this is worth considering although a decent kettle BBQ will allow you to do both forms of cooking like this does.

Me I'm a total pellet convert for its versatility and convenience, but there are many people who just prefer cooking with charcoal.

if you like the Traeger brand their entry level pellet grill is on offer and a decent price compared to elsewhere at the moment for £699.20 with the £20 off MY John Lewis Code and 20% off RRP offer at the moment johnlewis.com/tra…165

It is less than half the grill size capacity of this Louisana Grills model, but if you only cook regularly for 2-3 people may suit your needs better, if looking at a pellet grill anyway?
  22. saj_87's avatar
Im kinda undecided and need some adivce, Looking at some smoking and some traditional BBQ'ing. Been looking at a Kamado Joe Kettle or this ..... any suggestions?
    sotv's avatar
    Author
Depends really if you like the stronger smoke flavour a charcoal grill will give when smoking or a more subtle smoke flavour with a pellet grill. I tend to cook more with my pellet grill, as although I don't mind a stronger smoke flavour, not everyone else does, so prefer my pellet grill when cooking for just than me.

Don't know if this comes with an app, but I can monitor my cook wherever I am at the time by wifi/bluetooth and adjust temperatures etc if needed, via it, without need to touch or go to the grill.

You will be able to cook larger quantites of food on this grill if needed than most charcoal grills or kamados and no need to set up an indirect/direct setup or need for deflectors. The temp you set covers the whole surface and inside of the grill give or take around 25F+ depending on outside temp and pellet grills can run a little hotter on one side than the other in general

Charcoal grills can cook in rain without need for cover and will be slightly cheaper to run as no electric needed and you can cook slightly longer with an equivalent costing charcoal to pellet bag quantity

Seems to be very little in the way of notable differences to this one

I'm VV tempted as doesn't look like the masterbuilt 800 will be discounted any time soon and the price atm is sky high

Are these electric ones hefty on the leccy? Is it like boiling a kettle for 8/12 hours straight lol
    sotv's avatar
    Author
On average a pellet grill uses

300-500 watts for the first few minutes to power the ignitor. 30-50 watts for the remainder of the cook to continue power to the auger, fans, and digital display. (edited)

Hello there, total noob question incoming..
I live in a flat and I really miss a good BBQ. I was considering to get the Ninja Woodfire electric smoker so the question is can I use that right next to 2 double windows wide open in a sunroom? Or everyone would be thinking that the flat is on fire? I'm hoping for some BBQ experts help. I'm wondering how much escaping smoke does it generates with the pellets
    teh.arn's avatar
You really shouldn’t be BBQing in a flat.

so many problems with it I don’t know where to start.

Excellent deal - I held off the LG Kamado offer they had as I wanted a pellet grill. May bite on this now

Can this be used to BBQ things like burgers, sausages etc too? Thinking as a replacement for our gas. As would love to smoke but still BBQ.

I prefer to use a plancha on my pellet grill, as to much grease can catch fire in the burn/pot and the majority of the grease stays on the plancha during the cook, lessening the risk considerably.
  29. jbaro's avatar
Assume this doesn't come with a cover ?
    Jake_Hill's avatar
    It does, just got mine.
  30. hughwi's avatar
Is anyone else waiting for a few weeks for delivery now? I’m looking forward to setting this up - I’ve bought some pellets - just wondering what else I need
    Kushan's avatar
I had to get a replacement ordered on May 2nd, delivery for it is May 13th.

In terms of what you need, pellets is a start, some kind of meat to cook and whatever spices/rubs/sauces you want are the main things.

Nice things to have: Good sized metal tongs, foil trays (good for putting water in and generally useful to have), a decent scoop for scooping the pellets and make sure you store your pellets well, if they get damn (from moisture, not just water/rain) they'll be ruined and can clog up your machine. I just got a cheapo bucket with an airtight lid for mine. (edited)
  31. BigDaveLFC's avatar
Is anyone able to give me the dimensions for the packaging this comes in?
No post to Isle of Man so looking at a local company to collect and bring over.
  32. baz84's avatar
Out of stock now. Shame as was hoping to order one this evening. Nice find op.
  33. teh.arn's avatar
Unfortunately mine arrived damaged so phoned Costco who advised to reject it and they would replace.

Rejected it and now it’s out of stock so they can’t replace.

anyone know of any decent alternatives?
    hughwi's avatar
did you see the B&Q 20% off offer on their Traeger? - if not - these look like a solid option (not sure on build quality) - ebay.co.uk/itm…261
  34. hughwi's avatar
Costco should get a new delivery company - they gave mine a real beating today - luckily it survived - and its all setup and ready to go tomorrow
  35. matgunners123's avatar
Mines just arrived and it simply won't turn on, is there anything simple I could be missing before I speak to Costco?
