all wrapped up with a smart app to get your house cool before you get home.

About this item
  • POWERFUL AIR CONDITIONER: 8,000 BTU cooling power ensures effective cooling down to 17°C in rooms up to 24 square metres. This makes it ideal for use in places such as offices, gyms, shops and homes. This unit has a fan setting and also a dehumidifying function which is capable of extracting up to 2L per hour.
  • CONTROL THROUGH WI-FI: Connect your smartphone to the Air Conditioner through the Nethome Plus app for ultimate control. This allows you to set the temperature, timer and other functions from the comfort of your phone. This unit is also voice-command enabled and is compatible with Amazon Alexa and Google Home for iPhone and Android (Please note that voice commands can only adjust the power and temperature settings).
  • ENERGY EFFICIENT: This product is economical to run and has a Class A energy efficiency rating. This is due to its low power consumption and its use of R290 refrigerant, which is cheaper and more eco-friendly than other air conditioning gasses.
  • KEY FEATURES: There are three speed options to choose from (high, low & sleep) as well as a thermostat that ranges from 17-35°C. There is a 24-hour timer (set in 30 minute increments) that can be controlled through the touch control panel or the remote control. The compact and portable design features castors (wheels) for easy mobility. Exhaust Hose and water pipe are included with this product

AC installer here - I hate these! They are noisy, inefficient (more so if not set up right) and have a short life due to the compact construction. But they serve a purpose for some, and as somebody with AC in their house, I wouldn't be without cooling. I'm happier, more comfortable and can actually sleep when the space I live in is comfortable. If you can budget for a fixed system, I highly recommend it over a potable system - you have a more efficient system, will provide efficient heating (far more efficient than air-to-water heat pumps), be quiet and because they are classed as heat pumps, are VAT free with grants available.

But back to this... 8000btu is what we installers would see as a 2kw Cooling Capacity. It's helpful to use that because if you want a rule of thumb, the rough cooling capacity you want in space is about 1.5x the KW heating capacity you require. If a 2kw space heater is sufficient in your room, you'll ideally need 3kw of cooling capacity. Most AC installs (i.e. fixed systems) start from 3kw for this reason. If you have any additional heat loads, then increase slightly - south-facing windows, computers etc

Worth noting that 8000btu is very ambiguous - fixed systems use a Nominal Kw rating for the UK, so 2kw is 2kw in the UK conditions - it's unlikely that 8000btu is true, so a further reason to look for something in the 10k BTU (3kw) range.

This is very small - it will only be suitable for a small bedroom at night, which some may find acceptable, but it will hum. It will provide spot cooling if you stand it next to you, but that is not optimal again due to noise, and it's far better to cool to space, not the person.

You don't want to oversize; a correctly sized AC unit is better suited to enable better control of humidity in the space - oversize it, and you'll achieve temperature quickly, but humidity will remain high, and you will create an uncomfortable space.

I hope that might help some (edited)

Out of curiosity how much will it cost to put a fixed system in a bog standard 3 bed semi detached house

Higher the BTU, bigger size room the air con can cool down.

Even in Canada we used to have 14000 btu dual hose inverter portable AC and it could manage to cool down our whole flat that was around 60 sqm.
All I see here in the UK are just garbage models and your window openings are so weird to us.

Power usage in Watts? Couldn't find anything on the page

My bog standard mid sized air purifier uses 50w on the highest setting..I'd imagine this is easily 200w or more (edited)

200w would be very efficient! I found a rebranded version of this very same machine, but with an energy label (really strange that this listing omits it), and it's 900w - but worth noting it will only use this when running to achieve temp. In an efficient room, it may be half that in realt kw/h terms.

A tad different to an air purifier, as this incorporates a refrigeration system

I had the older version of this without the smart gubbins and it lasted two years before it just stopped working, and Amazon and NETTA couldn't be less interested in helping.

I can count on less than two hands the amount of times I used it.

Took it to the tip because it couldn't be fixed, total waste and terrible for the environment. (edited)

Buy cheap buy twice. Decent air con costs minimum 5 times the price of this

    8000BTU for that price isn’t ideal…
