Lots of good prices on Costco for IPad Pros. Have been looking to buy an IPad for a long time, finally pulled the trigger today.
I would recommend getting at least the 256GB version of you plan on using it for 4-5 years. But then again the 2TB version is just 100 pounds more.

The 12.9 inch one is probably very good for watching movies and drawing, but if you want to use this as a portable computer to read books on, watch occasional videos and especially if you are a student, the 11 inch version is probably better, as it's way more portable and easy to hold one handed. The 11 inch weighs 470gms as opposed to the 12.9 inch one, which weighs 685gm - about 50% heavier. The difference in weight is even more apparent if you use it with the magic keyboard.

So if you are confused which one to buy, best to buy depending on your individual use case. If you are a student or want this as a portable computer, best go for 11 inch. But if you want more of a desktop computer/laptop replacement/Media machine, the 12.9 with it's fantastic display is a very good option. (edited)

Great summary. I love my 12.9 but it’s weird. I had the 12.9 OG iPad but that was actually easier to use one handed and for notes due to the design and weight. I genuinely prefer using my iPad Pro to my MacBook Pro 14 for most basic day to day stuff but it’s absolutely more a laptop alternative. (edited)

12.9" 512gb looks a great buy for £870, it has the mini LED XDR screen so great for HDR content and almost OLED level blacks.
    roomy25's avatar
The bigger screen is amazing but it’s very unwieldy compared to the 11”. Media consumption is so much better on the larger screen also. I’ve had both screen sizes, it’s a tough choice. I’ve also done academic studies in my later years the extra screen space is a must IMO when you’re studying - think making notes on one side of the screen with a PDF/research paper on the other in split screen mode. It’s just not very comfortable on the smaller screen.

The base model 128gb is £600, £800 for 2TB is a great deal consider Apple highway robbery if you pay MSRP, £1200 extra for 2TB model.... (edited)

Thanks for the heads up. I just ordered the 12.9 512gb gen 5 for £869 which seems a great price as I won’t need 2tb
    Ali2021's avatar
Just bear in mind that the 1tb and 2tb versions have double the RAM so 16GB instead of 8GB.

The 8GB ram on models with storage under 1tb is still insanely fast.

I have had the 12.9 256gb model since release day in 2021 and it has never slowed down or had any issues.
  6. crack_shot's avatar
I would pay the extra for the 12.9 mini LED Ipad

Thats an insane screen. I would choose that over an OLED any day. zero burn in risk, will last forever (apart from the designed to fail battery lol)
    Ali2021's avatar
A battery replacement is £129 at Apple so not the end of the world if the battery needs replacing.

Lithium ion batteries naturally degrade over time, they aren’t designed to fail, thats just the nature of batteries. They won’t last forever.

    Costco Again!!!!!

Don’t know why people keep on about getting stuff cheaper at Costco because they are a member only fee paying club with very few stores in the uk which the general public can’t really use whose members like to brag about being in the “ CLUB “ and they think their special
    plewis00's avatar
Because it's £15 for online membership, you can easily make that back in savings quickly and literally no-one brags about it. No different to Amazon Prime but much cheaper. Anyway being members only certainly hasn't hurt them.

Bought a 4th gen 256gb model from apple the other day for £959. That’s going straight back and am ordering this. Hot!
  12. Gareth_Lewiss6w's avatar
This is a bonkers spec for the price. 2TB very handy if using the new Final Cut Pro app for iPad as you can’t edit from an external drive just yet. 16GB unified memory is welcome too…

…but iPadOS is still seriously lacking in its restrictions and lack of “pro” apps. Great for video and photo editing, music, and drawing, but if you are a developer or a digital product designer (like me) it’s a big compromise. The Affinity apps are really great, but not quite up there with the industry standards apps.

All that horsepower and it’s not utilised. iPadOS 17 announcement was another disappointment. There are strong hints from one of my most used desktop apps (Figma) that they are finally bringing editing to the iPad… so there is hope. All it sometimes takes is for one or two big players to start the ball rolling and showing what’s possible on the platform. (edited)
    motionwerk's avatar
LumaFusion can edit from external drive and it's one off payment not subscription.

  15. jamdog30's avatar
I have the 128gb version with cellular and been using as my daily driver for the past year with the magic keybpard —> i am thinking of selling mine for 400 quid ish and then put the rest of the money towards this. As this will have a brand new warranty. I agree about the battery life not being the best but then again that is why we use battery saver. When i do the geekbench between the two power states there is a forty percent drop in performance but when you think about the sheer power of this thing it does not make hardly any difference. Yes i do torrent on my ipad, play games, write documents, watch YouTube until my eyes bleed!!!!!
    Daves_mate's avatar
Wait what!? I have had the M2 12.9 256gb since launch (neither impressed with battery) and this is the first time I've heard of battery saver mode

Whoa! Where is that setting? Could be a game changer.
  16. onotron's avatar
I'm really confused by this because everything I can find about the 3rd gen said it was released 2018 and didn't have an M1? But this was apparently 2021 with an M1?
    greenant's avatar
With the “gen” it applies specifically to the screen size. It’s how many generations of that screen size. Yes indeed it is confusing. The 3rd gen of the smaller iPad Pro is the same year as the 5th gen of the larger iPad Pro.

An odd proposition. power/storage/performance is wasted on an iPad, for almost all use cases.

Not surprised it’s discounted. This product is pointless.

Cannot justify this as I never use a tablet, but tempting/great price! Heat added
  23. Nujol's avatar
I mean, the Apple list price for 2TB is absolutely insane, making this a ‘steal’.

My point is - why would you need 2TB?
    Ian_Mears's avatar
Storing raw photos is one use case. Lots of photographers use them as they are brilliant for the travel use case and some keep all their images on them. Using external storage is a right pain so 2TB is useful.
  24. frish's avatar
Good deal, but mostly because Apple absolutely bleeds you dry over storage that comparatively is not that expensive.
  25. BlackAdam's avatar
This model was released in April 2021 - think about it if you like to have latest hardware and software. Also screen isn’t miniLED like in 12.9 inch model - it’s standard LED thought it good enough. Still can’t see reason to upgrade from my 11 pro 2018 (edited)
    AJ1990's avatar
The jump from M1 to M2 is very small or at least not as significant as the one to M1. And the latest IPad is the most minor updgrade to an IPad in years. I would highly recommend going to the M1 rather than pay 200 pounds extra for M2 for a 10% performance gainy, which 99% of people are not going to need.

The 12.9 inch might be too heavy and big if you plan to use the IPad as a portable computer. Attached to magic keyboard is very heavy and bulky.
  26. Ilopee's avatar
I’ve always found the iPad Pro is sort of a pointless product

if you want something portable to use google maps, social media, ring, text, you would use a phone

if you want to watch a film or your fav series use a decent television at home, the money you’d spend on this would get you a blinding tv

if your a creator, editor etc.. surely you would use a MacBook Pro (which is still portable) over an iPad Pro

I’ve never known who these are aimed for other than holiday goers on planes or in hotel rooms but that’s for what 2 weeks in the year?

this isn’t an attack btw I have always genuinely been curious why anybody would need one, can someone fill me in?

I'm a lifelong PC guy. My first apple device was an iPhone 3GS and have been Android ever since (Sony>4xSamsung). Bought the M2 Ipad Pro 12.9 6 months ago. Reason: Quite simply there is no other tablet based device that compares in terms of hardware and software. I have the pencil too so I can use Procreate, Affinity 2 Suite, learning DaVinci Resolve for video editing, might dabble in music creation/sampling apps. True some of these you can use elsewhere but not with this level of performance, portability and tactile feel with the pencil. I'm by no means a fan boy (I just love tech from whoever makes good stuff). There's plenty gripes I have about it no1 being the file management, though it is usable still sucks in many ways. The speakers are amazing amd often find myself playing something back to see if I really heard sound over my shoulder in films.

I am in no ways a pro but am trying to get there slowly. It's a very fun device amd I'm still really scratching the surface of what it's capable of.
I think it's all relative really e.g in my opinion a blinding TV starts to come in at around £2.5K at 75"+.
Its all relative. Different stokes for different folks. (edited)

  33. rencar's avatar
After reading all the helpful comments here I added a space grey one to the basket, but when I went to checkout with a £15 membership, it’s now out of stock!

Then realised the silver 11” one was still in stock, so rather hurriedly hooked one of those!

I have a 10.5” iPad Pro which was an Apple refurb back in 2019.  I’m hoping the 11” model here with the M1 chip will be a good move. (edited)
    plewis00's avatar
I still have the 10.5" iPad Pro I kept, other than the usual bright spot flaw, it still performs suitably fast even today and has great sound. The 11" is faster but I wonder if it will be that noticeable as I've had them and felt iPads got 'fast enough' around the A10X and A12-era, still feels like the M1 in the iPad hasn't been fully taken advantage of - even the A12X in the original iPad Pro 11" is hard to complain about.
  34. cantonbean's avatar
Just logged in and they now have stock of the space grey with the discount code still showing so sent unexpired request.
  35. TechBlitZ_'s avatar
£600 for the base M1 iPad Pro is really great since it’s even cheaper than a base M1 iPad Air.
  36. umirza85's avatar
I really want a 12inch one but this price is insane. Is the only difference the screen between the two? Also does this have a proper keyboard attachment?
    Mr.Nutts's avatar
12.9 has mini LED display. 11 doesn’t. That’s one difference I know of.
  37. deleted1945554's avatar
    Heat added.

The screen size is tiny, but a bargain, nonetheless.
  38. Silent_wispa's avatar
Saw the space grey had sold out so panicked and bought the Silver. It’ll give me time to think if I’ll keep this or the 12.9” I bought the other day
  39. mr_johnsie's avatar
M1 chip, so obsolete out of the box
    AJ1990's avatar
Please do explain why you think so.

There are no APPS on IPad that can make the M1 sweat, then why spend 300 pounds more to get M2? And an IPad will not replace your computer, it's just not designed that way/Apple limits it. Then what's the point of all this power?

Most people use their Ipads to browse the web, YouTube, watch some movies and maybe some gaming. Students use it as an ebook reader/Note taking machine and it's fantastic if you are an artist as it is very good to use with the Apple Pencil because of its 120Hz refresh rate and low latency. None of these tasks utilises even 10% of the M1's power. If you are a Pro user, using this to edit your videos (don't know why you are using this when you can get a laptop for about the same price), then you might see minor performance gain 10-20% or so. But even then it's not worth the 300 pounds extra IMO.

Companies will always introduce new stuff and will try their best to convince you that you need that new shiny thing. I'm sure the M3 IPad will perform 15% better than the M2, but then again what good is all the power in the world, if you can't use it? If you watch any M2 IPad Pro review, this is what people are going to say over and over. It's an overkill for gut current apps available on the IPad.

Buying an M1 IPad Pro is the smart move as it's way cheaper than the new M2 while offering more power than you will ever have use for. Chips used to become obselete soon, but not M1, because the jump in performance it offered compared to previous generation and the performance ceiling it can reach are quite high. (edited)

Looks like delivery of the new iPad is due today from the Costco via the Parcelforce updates I've received.

Seems to be being shipped direct from Ingram Micro.

Quick turnaround and free delivery are all a bonus.

I bought a new 11" Procase from Amazon. This arrived yesterday and is pretty much the same dimension as my current 10.5" iPad Pro. I guess because there is not fingerprint reader and its FaceID, the screen can fill more of the same space.

Not so worried about not getting the space grey model, as someone else said here, once in a iPad case I won't notice the silver colour.

Be good to see what this 2Tb model is like. (edited)
