Great set for the money but it's not perfect...

1. The colour presets are mostly ****.
2. The speakers are terrible - not a problem for me as I have it going through an amp (which is very well controlled via ARC) but if you don't have an amp, budget for one or get a soundbar.
3. The blacks are only OK - not great.

Otherwise, the set is great - HDR looks amazing via a PS4 Pro and Android really opens it up in terms of usage.

Some tips for best use:
1. Tweak the picture manually. "Photo" or "ISA Day" are the best presets but you'll the perfect balance can only be found manually.
2. Update the firmware immediately - a few features (like Netflilx HDR) and a lot of stability problems have been addressed in the latest firmware.
3. Go into the menus and enable 4:4:4 / 4:2:2 to get HDR from external sources.
4. Use the Internet as the source for your EPG (icon in the top of the guide)
5. Turn the sharpness down or off for 4K sources (causes intermittent flickering)
6. You'll want to hide the Philips Apps section on the home screen as they're out of date and duplicated below - go into Apps settings, find Leanback Customizer and turn off notifications.
7. You can sideload apps with ES File Manager and launch them with Sideload Launcher.
8. If you run out of storage, you can move apps to a USB stick.

Amazing price, heated. Probably best price there is for a 55" 4k set with hdr. I got a Digihome 55" 4k set last year for £350, much as i like it. If £100 more for a hdr set had been open to me id have probably taken it, especially since 4k and hdr seem to go hand in hand these days...
I bought this last week for £468 and I really like it. picture quality is excellent and massive step up from my 10 year old plasma. it's a budget TV but from what I can see probably the best budget value 55 inch you can get. android seems good and I can use Plex to stream media from my laptop. only a 2 year guarantee is a con compared to John Lewis and richer sounds but you'll probably pay another couple of hundred hundred pounds for that. remote doesn't seem to have a microphone for Google Voice searches but you can download an app for your phone to get around that.
Can you download kodi on this set?
Does this set have a wide colour gamut?
bought this 3 months ago when it was this price. its decent'ish for the money but my key annoyances are that there's a regular 'flickering' which looks like the tv is resetting picture settings by itself - others have also complained about it so its not just a faulty set. Also the blacks are terrible. On the plus side, its a cheap big screen tv with android (plex, kodi and mobdro easy to install) and amblight which are all plus points IF you're on a sub £500 budget. Personally i wish id spent £600-£700 for a set with better blacks
kodi can be downloaded.
Just keep in mind these are not made by Philips anymore.
I'll go first then, not HDR10

What do you mean it's not OLED or HDR10 for £449.10!
Excellent! Was gutted about missing the Samsung TV deal but this makes up for it!
You can get a Polaroid for half the price if this ffs!
just had it yesterday before they dropped price. Got it for £476 ffs
I bought this TV just last week at the higher price... A lot of TV for the money. Not the best 4K TV you'll ever get, but for £449 it's a total steal.
Thanks OP Just wish all sellers gave 5 YEAR warranty like JL and Richer
The LG one for 419.99 for 49 inch seems a better deal at Argos I reckon
Bought this one last week and just got my £20 refunded, Argos customer service is superb!

I'd go with the Sony 55 at Argos over this.
I compare this to a new 4k TV worth over 2k... now to be honest the picture on this is nearly identical. The Ambilight sets this apart from the rest. I got 10Bit on my Sky Q from this TV and it's just as good as my other TV. I feel a little sick paying over 2 grand but hey ho, u life and u learn lol! BUY IT! It's really worth it, 10Bit 4k, perfect For Xbox one, PlayStation or Sky Q

I'd add to this by saying check out the AV Forums picture set up guide for the 49" 6501 model, basically identical apart from screen refresh and more PPI: Philips 49PUS6501 Best TV Picture Settings

Philips presentation says the TV is 10bit too: Presentation Document

Yes you can but Kodi/TvSddons no longer functions.
Don't Philips have LG parts ?
This is a great TV for the money. Personally Im far more impressed with HDR1000 than the 4K aspect. For anyone who wants to see what all this 10 bit wide colour gammut is all about, check out BBC Planet Earth 2 of The Grand Tour on a good set. There's more 4K HDR material about. Netflix have a lot of 4k HDR content.

While those TVs are currently high end, I hope that technology filters down to much lower price points so everyone get get to enjoy it. Plus owners should mean more content for everyone.

Totally agree Chet
Bought on myself, agree with all of above, like the ambilight, hate the android operating system, its too slow, my tv tuner seems to give a really poor picture quality but the picture is fine on sat or bluray, cold for me, as an owner I would not recommend buying one.
Stupid question, but anyone have the size dimensions of the box the TV comes in?!
Anyone know if I can get it for this price in the shop?
The reason is I have some Love2Shop vouchers I want to use but cant use them online.

No I had the same issue 2 weeks ago.
I had Argos vouchers and you can only use 3 online but unlimited in store. A ridiculous restriction but I checked and they would not accept the code in store so no other choice but to only use 3 vouchers.
Does anyone suffer sloooow WiFi speed? I'm with virgin 50mb and my TV running just about 1.5mb speed
