Hard enough finding rye bread in a supermarket, but this loaf is supersized and baked in store for the equivalent price of a white bloomer (considering that large bloomers are only 800 grams and this is the full kilo).

I find rye bread very hard and dense, its certainly an acquired taste

FYI: Can find Half Rye Half Wheat loaves in some Tesco Extras - branded "Polish Bakery" 800g c£1.

aldi dont do Rye bread, will tell the daughter on a diet that lidl do!

does anyone know if they use yeast in this loaf (the other half is intolerant to the stuff)?

I've emailed Lidl for ingredients as I wonder what percentage of the flour is in it. Will report back of anyone is interested. Heat added.

Originally continental rye bread is made from sour dough only. All good bakers will make it that way. And it suppose to be dense and it's the most tasty bread, I find.
Having said that I've noticed British sour dough breads contain yeast (from info on the packaging).
I know Lidl uses frozen dough in their bakery but can't say what it contains.

Sour dough contains wild yeast. Yeast spores are all around us, and grow whenever they find food and moisture.

This bread is amazing , very close in taste to the bread I remember from my childhood and I'm from Poland

The Rye bread 61% rye flour and 39% wheat flour.

Lidl has now reduced the size of this loaf by half and is still charging the same price.

I concur about the good taste of this bread, so I am saddened by the size drop/price 'drop'. If this is truly 500g compared to the 1kg and the cost going down from 1.59? to 1 pound doesn't seem adequate.

My other question would also be if this bread is naturally fermented with the wild yeast or if it's made with an artificial addition of yeast to speed up the process. I'm very very sadly coming off of commercial breads and thinking of trying to make my own, but this bread was the last light in the darkness that is the supermarket.
(I think this is better suited if I send it to Lidl directly...)
