"Priya Tew, spokesperson for the British Dietetic Association, says: “Coconut oil is a high saturated fat. It’s about 92% saturated fat – so more than lard or butter. If a woman has two tablespoons, she is eating 20g of saturated fat, her recommended daily amount.

Don't fall for it, nonsense. The min they know something is good for us, improves people health, that's it, bad publicity. These people are the same people who think dairy is healthy.

Coconut oil is way better than all the refined synthetic crap they label as food such as margarine etc.

Coconut oil is just a marketing fad. There's no science to it. It's massively high in saturated fat.

The 1970s called. They want their diet advice back.

Saturated fat is no longer a cause for concern. It is oxidised and trans fat that need to be avoided.

Saturated fat, if from a clean source, is fine.

Sadly, the public are still addicted the low-fat mantra that we have had advertised and pushed in us for the last 40 years.

Well, it is a saturated fat, so......

I don’t think anyone is advising eating this out of the jar as if it were a tub of Ben and Jerry’s.

But if it were used for cooking instead of an ultra processed fat like margarine or flora then what’s the issue?
Not a bad price, but not quite as good as Aldi's Coco Loco which works out at 76.3p per 100ml (Amazon with 15% discount is 85p)
After decades of low fat / high carb diets being pushed by government/ health dept we are in the grip of a diabetes epidemic .. Sound public advice eh

No sane person would use margarine for cooking. Low smoking point = carcinogenic. Marg/Flora is for spreading onto your toast.
This is good fat. Not all sat fats are bad. I'm on a high fat diet. And I eat tablespoons of this as a pick me up.

High saturated fat = high bad cholesterol. Welcome to heart disease....

In 2015 scientists studied 50 separate studies , involving over 1 million people , and concluded there is no scientific evidence that saturated fats lead to stroke , heart disease etc and saturated fat is likely to protect from diabetes.
Whereas the fats in margarines (trans fats ) increase your chances of disease by 34%.
Article in telegraph 11aug 2015

Not that eating vast quantities of butter is healthy .. It's just far more healthy than margarine spreads
Picard12356 m ago

Post the study.

Google .. Butter unlikely to harm ...and it brings up telegraph article dated ..11aug 15.
load of moaners added to my ignored list, thanks OP, good deal too.

A human being will increase their chance of getting heart disease if they consume high amounts of saturated fat.
So, in a round about way, yes, she will eventually die if she keeps overdosing on saturated fat.

Yes, because people are not following the advice.
How many people on here eat lots of saturated fats and processed foods...even though governments and health organisations all say that you shouldn't consume these products.

Universally, everybody agrees that a diet rich in fruit/veg and not processed foods is best for the human body. The problem is that a lot of people rarely follow this advice, then end up with heart disease and diabetes. My own mother is a good example. She cooks her food as if she is trying her best to eat herself to death. She has T2 diabetes, btw.

Funny how generations gone by had a very high saturated fat diet yet obesity and diabetes were relatively uncommon.
Then companies were encouraged to strip fat out of foods , yoghurt etc ,only to replace it with sugar.. Genius .
Now after 40 years of completely wrong advice the government has targeted sugar as the real culprit and intends sugar taxes.

high carbs, sugars and the trans fats found in many fast foods cause inflammation which in turn causes heart disease.. No link has been established to natural fats in dairy etc.
