Why were these ever popular, what's the point of them - at least when I was younger when it was the yo-yo craze of the late 90s that made some sense, you could actually use them.

These were AMAZING!!! and the yo yo phase kinda came back for a while when these died!!! I remember i had an xbrain yoyo which you could only get from ToysRus. But i think i spent countless hours changing the trucks and wheels with the tiny bolt wrench thing.
