Mmmm Grantham!!! Nice!

Not bad considering they are throwing in a satellite TV and a Writing desk & lamp!

Having grown up in Grantham, I cannot in good conscious recommend it as a destination. The only good thing about it is that its next to the A1, so its easy to drive somewhere else!

Great location. Grantham is an hour away from London on fast train, 40 mins from Nottingham on A52 and right by A1. Birthplace of Isaac Newton and Margaret Thatcher.

ohmygod

But it is also a complete dump.

Issac Newton was actually born in Woolsthorpe which is about 10 miles outside of Grantham!

Looked great until I checked out Grantham...

Grantham is one of the best towns in Britain according to a survey published today (Wednesday) by The Times.

Our market town has come 13th in a list of 30 ‘best towns’ in the country, with its ‘grand buildings and good shops’ earning a special mention.

The newspaper also said that Grantham has a ‘quiet, affluent feel’, and went on to describe Manthorpe Road properties as ‘prized’.

Another comment was that Grantham is ‘great’ for ‘once being home to a famous grocer’s daughter’, referring to MArgaret Thatcher.

The news arrives just weeks after Grantham was named as one of the most popular commuter towns in Britain for best value property and easy access to London. The Sunday Times rated it 12th out of the top 20 most popular commuter lines out of the capital on February 10.

I have to admit I and my brother were born in Grantham Hospital many years before the Nurse Beverley Allitt was there who killed loads of children. I have never lived in Grantham but an outlying village in Nottinghamshire and the only reason I ever went after my childhood to Grantham was in my profession and I still feared the Earls-field estate and Barrowby Road.

Heed my warning "Stay away from this Strange Town" it is the next location for another Hostel movie.

When I have had to stay here I stayed in the Angel and Royal which is a nice hotel and I think has just joined the Best Western Club

Im not sure if I should book or not.

Honeymoon sorted then.

Shouldn't that be a grocer's famous daughter?

What good shops are these? marks and spencers? Oh, no that's closed down. Monsoon? Nope. Topshop? Nope. Burtons? Nope. Perhaps the high street is littered with independent delis and artisan bakers? Nope. Perhaps there are lots of independent music shops? Nope

If you like charity, pound or discount shops you are in for a treat.

There is Downtown, which is home to Britains largest garden center. But that isn't in Grantham, technically.

Yes its a good commuter town, but most of those that commute live in the outlying villages, which are mostly very pleasant.

But he went to school in Grantham, so its got that going for it

Right, lets get back to the topic, and as I don't post very often, I hope this helps people who are unsure. I have just got back from experiencing this offer with her indoors. The hotel is very nice, the leisure centre looks lovely (not experienced personally), the rooms were lovely, clean, well appointed, roomy, with tea and coffee and toiletries etc. The bed was large and extremely comfy. The staff could not do enough to help, the free bar was exactly that and the offer does include beer, cider, lager, house spirits, wines etc etc. The dinner was 3 courses...I had pate and toast to start, pork with apple mash and veg followed by banoffee waffle and ice cream. Of course any of the aforementioned drinks were included in the offer and the staff brought them to your table so you didn't have to go out of the restaurant area to collect them. The breakfast was lovely, hot cold buffet selection including all the elements of a full english....with me so far? We worked out that this was probably worth between £200 and £250. So....youre waiting for the glitch right? The sentence that puts you off, the clause, the fine print? So were we, and another 4 or 5 groups that were there on the same deal. There wasn't one. We simply checked out and paid our £99. Now I am sure that someone might be a little dissapointed that there wasn't black pudding, or that there was a puddle in the car park, or.....you know what i mean, but we think this is a genuinely cracking deal. I will be putting a similarly positive review on tripadvisor, because quite honestly if we had paid for a room, then everything on top, we would not be dissapointed (although I may not have had quite so many G and T's!) Cheers!

This deal has been extended and is now running through to the end of February.
