Some more information on them here:

A Google search also comes up with others.

why do all packages cost the same? how are they going to make money from you?

Amazing deal if it's right!

I was extremely skeptical of this at first but with some googling it looks like Strato is a well-known provider in Germany (like 1&1) so I guess it's legit. £1/year on a reputable host is bargain value.

I assume they are planning on making money out of the offer by charging more for the second year and on...

Edit: Here's some fine print:

The contract periods renew for periods respective to their first term if … The contract periods renew for periods respective to their first term if not terminated with a notice period of a month before the end of the respective term.

So looks like their plan is that people sign up to the £1 deal and then don't cancel in the 11th month and thus are charged for year 2.

if they did it will be a first! :-)

So if i sign up for £1 and i cancel on the 11 month i only pay the quid?

Seems like its going to be a waste of time having to cancel after 11 months - all your work etc. will be lost - no good if you plan on running it as a 'business'. If just for personal use there are plenty of others available that you pay for on an annual basis and don't 'rob' your card at the end of each accounting period.

according from what i gather from terms at bottom, yes. because you are only subject to a 12 month contract or less with them depending on which package took out

It won't be lost when you have copies on your HDD or it can be saved very easily, will it? Then just reupload and reorganise on another host, or decide the website isn't for you.

I use supanames. been on them for years, never a problem and only £13.99 a year. Never seen one as good for as little as this. www.supanames.co.uk check it.

what is this package missing as a normal package for hosting? I just spoke to them on the phone, and they said that they use their own cpanel software.

But, I wanted to set up a few websites, but is this gonna be really diffrent from normal hosting packages? does it have less features?

X free domains included. Wonder what the transfer charge is if you no longer wish to use their hosting package after year 1?

Couldnt you just redirect the DNS or whatever it is

does somebody know where I can find a dedicate server for my website?

For those wondering about moving you should be able to do a backup of all your files just using ftp (same way you'll get anything up on there) and then upload those to a new host. Then just point dns at the new host.

As Robieeee notes this isn't a solution for business...but then to be honest no one should be using anything remotely in this kind of league for a business, they should be looking at VPS or a dedicated host.

I rang there phone line and the person who i spoke to said they will transfer the domains away aslong as you tell them 30 days before your contract ends

yes it will - you will lose all the custom and goodwill etc that you have gained over the 11 months. You can't transport that to a new domain name and expect to carry on where you left off. Most of the search engines will only have just started to kick in by then and you may be starting to feel the benefit of them. You certainly won't be able to take the domain name with you. So what will you have left? Nothing as it seems you may have to use their web page builder and therefore will not be able to store them on your HD.

I disagree there. It depends what size your business is and what it does - if all you want is a web presence providing details of your activities etc. and not requiring updating too often and not dealing with sales then all you need is one simple page. I use my own ISP for that sort of thing - have done for 10 years nearly. The offer is a good one and the faciltiies are more than adequate for those people who want to sell etc. from a website - all you need is a paypal or similar logo and sales can be handled that way (simple sales that is). My problem is that you will be tied to them after a year unless you want to dump all your work and start again or pay their exhorbitant fees.

I would like to see that in writing - it is something that appears to be have been omitted.

Well if all you want is a simple page Robbieee then this will work fine. There is no reason to have any downtime. At month 11 you cancel this one and point dns to your new host. It will take 24 hours or so but you run the sites side by side during that time, some visitors would be on old hosting and some would be on new depending on their dns. 100% seamless and no-one would ever know you moved hosts.

I maintain though that if someone is looking to run a proper business they shouldn't be looking a "value" hosting.

Looking at their T&Cs, they would still have control over your domain name at the end of your contract and could delete it etc. if they want to.

It may not be important to you if intend to just get a new domain name but if you have built-up a good web site, you may not want to lose that name.

It may be that they will transfer it free of charge - but it does not say anything about that in their terms. Nominet appear to make a charge for .co.uk transfers so I would be surprised if they would not try pass-on that charge.

Dont forget guys if you subsribe before the end of May you will get very good software pack.

Well worth it even if you dont need hosting

As .co.uk is ultimately registered with Nominet I don't know if a agent can restrict your ability to move that name to another registrar? Interesting to know the answer actually...

I would be cautious with domain name transfers but there shouldn't be any reason you can't use a domain name registered elsewhere to use with this hosting?

Personally I think it's a lot of hassle if you're planning to do anything serious on a long term scale. For testing out the water or playing around it's a super bargain and as Zheka shows in his deal thread it's a bargain for the software alone!

Seems a decent deal for what it is, 1 years hosting for a quid. If your looking something longer your better going somewhere else but good on a temporary basis.

Was about so sign up but they only accept VISA/MASTERCARD as payment which sucks, i don't have either!

Exactly the same

Looks remarkably like what 1&1 did\do then the slight catch was the software was only as long as you had hosting otherwise they asked you to return it... Don't know if its still the case as I can't find their terms and conditions without ordering. Nor do I see an option to use a domain name not registered through them. Maybe I'm just cynical though.

I use to have a cheap hosting with some American company, but once we had our setup, after few months we need a subdomain for some purpose and they demand a $15 for that, afterward we need some more space on one of our mailbox they also demanded $15 for that, so keep this thing in mind

Secondly if some one is worried about your 11 month work, than just get domain name direct from nominent or some agent and get control of your name servers , than just change your name servers and thats all.

It's not a big deal if you have a .co.uk / .org.uk.

As long as it's registered in your name, they can't keep it. If they REFUSE to alter the DNS for it or change the IPS tag, Nominet can change the tag for you for about £15.

That will allow you to move your domain away from them without them being able to stop you.

As for a back of all files and databases, very easy to do using ftp.

So don't worry about them holding on to squat. I am not sure what the story is with .com's and such as I've not checked, but I'd imagine there is something similar.
