Here's the info that should have been in original post!
HP 17-by0031na 17.3-Inch HD+ Laptop, Intel Pentium Gold 4417U, 4 GB RAM, 1 TB HDD, Windows 10 Home - Silver
Pentium gold? No thanks.
Pentium Gold and no SSD for £399? Did I go back to 2010 or something?

Cpu is similar to slightly older i3. Not bad but not great. At this price you could pick up the latest i3 if you look around.

Loads of info about how much storage it has and how fast it charges... but the rest of the specs? Even basic stuff like processor?
Ssd is very much expected these days.
Looks painfully slow. Colder that a wet kipper.

I think I get it. Massive screen, loads of storage, nice big size keyboard - OK for office use, no?

If your office use consists of working with pen and paper while using the laptop for looking at pictures of kittens sure otherwise no.

With a 2core cpu and nonssd hdd you're not gonna be able to do much at the same time on this.

This laptop is a vintage piece of junk!

Not full HD screen - 1600 x 900 pixels
Anyone have any recommendations for decent specifications with around this size screen and at this sort of budget? Could be particular laptops or stores to buy from. As I don't really know about these things and most of the deals on here seem to be for 15.6 inch or smaller, I'm not sure where to look.

17 inch is a dying breed. The only modern ones I see these days are ones for gaming which jacks the price and weight up so no use.

Best to look for a 15 inch with a 6 core or more cpu nvme drive and 8gb+ ram. Amd may be the way to go!

"17 inch is a dying breed". WTF? Maybe to you. Why on earth do arrogant know it alls feel the need to tell me, and others, what size laptop to buy?!?!.
Post mentions 17.3" laptop, so if not for you, move on.
Any recommendation for a 17 inch laptop under 500? Need it for office work plus zoom. I see a 400 one in Argos, an Asus, but need 8gb and 256.

lol no one is stopping you from spending money on overpriced 17" tat.

17" are a dying breed, there is no arguing against that statement. Have a look at all of the newer laptops, they are 13 and 15 inch due to better portability and to keep weight down.

The days of everyone lugging around a 17 or 19 inch are over at least for now. Larger screen laptops are reserved for gaming and people that don't want something modern and sleek (and prefer old outdated hardware with a bigger screen, lol).

Personally i'd prefer to have the options of bigger screens but that isn't the target manufacturers are aiming for so enjoy throwing your money on that.
