Just make very sure you don't exceed the £50k that's guaranteed by the FSCS. Building Societies may not be the safe havens they used to be:

Yes, I saw that in the Sunday Times too. Amazing isn't it, when you consider these comments in the 2008 accounts:

"Since the summer of 2007, global financial markets
have been turbulent. Despite this, I am pleased to
report that the West Bromwich Building Society has
come through this period of uncertainty and has
achieved creditable results for the year ended 31
March 2008.
"

These bonds are great... except that they automatically re-invest your money after 12 months, and you have just 14 days "cooling off period" to notify them if you don't want it reinvested. My wife's just had £20k locked up for 1yr (paying a crap rate) which we actually NEED to buy a house. No amount of reasoning or arguing with them will get it back. Yes, it's in the Ts & Cs but it's just plain ridiculous and means I won't ever be investing with the West Brom Scam Merchants again.

shouldnt have ignored the letter they sent you before the switch then! oO

bit rich to call them scam merchants just because you couldnt be bothered to read the T&Cs or read their letters or notify them not to switch even with two weeks notice!
