actually i'm not even going to bother with figuring this out. I'm going …actually i'm not even going to bother with figuring this out. I'm going with RAC for like £3.50 more (based on the £24 one) and you get personal cover to drive any car. only 1/4 mile limit instead of 10 MILES with this stupid policy. (that 10 mile limit would cover my city which is dumb as I do most of the driving in the city) https://www.rac.co.uk/breakdown-cover/email-sale

I think you misunderstand what each offer provides.

Both "RAC Roadside" @ £27.50 and "RescueMyCar Roadside with Local Recovery" @ £17, cover a 10 mile tow wherever you are if they can't fix it at the roadside. This is typically to a nearby garage, but both will tow you home if you prefer as long as home is less than 10 miles away.

RescueMyCar @ £17 includes cover at home, the RAC @ £27.50 does not. Add home cover to RAC and the cost jumps to £62.50.

RAC Recovery option will tow you to a garage or home wherever you are if they can't fix it. This adds £10 if you have the Home service (£72.50 total) or adds £35 if you don't have Home service (£62.50 total). RescueMyCar national recovery is £24, but they will only tow you home if they and a local garage can't fix your car.

In a nutshell RescueMyCar vs RAC:
10 mile tow (wherever you are) is £17 vs £27.50
10 mile tow + at home service is £17 vs £62.50
National tow is £24 vs £62.50
National tow + at home service is £24 vs £72.50

I hope this helps.

Was with them last year, but the upped the renewal to £42. So I went with Asda for £29 but with £4.20 Quidco cashback makes it comparable at total £24.80
What do they define as local?
Second year with these and yet to use their service but for around 28 quid (a rise of 6) they were still the cheapest at the time

Up to 10 miles from home

I'll pass....it will feel like I'm grounded .

I have auto aid and now they do common law wife as partner (send a bank statement) and is included in breakdown cover.
So we have full breakdown for 2 people for £59.99. My partner who was with the AA was paying over £100 foer one car insyurance.

This is a good deal if you are on your own and work is within 10 miles (according to a comment) ( and never go anywhere else) but you can bet you will breakdown on a occasinal trip further away like to the seaside. I'd rather be fully protected.

What's the point of local breakdown within 10 miles cover? Never heard of anything so ridiculous. It's far easier to get a friend to come and give you a tow if you're less than 10 miles away, not so if you are100 miles away

So about 0.1% of car owners then.
thanks OP - missed the RAC offer, glad now :-)

About that yes.

Might be ok for my dad who is 89 and goes bowling twice a week and the occasional trip to a supermarket but that it.
Is this not local recovery where they tow you up to 10 miles either back home or to a garage, and not that you are only covered within 10 miles of home, which would be pretty much useless.
The groupon says only cars up to 10 years old which excludes my 2005 car however the policy wording states cars up to 25 years old??

Good to know. Regardless my car is too old for this offer anyway (despite the confusing terms and conditions on their site) as I say most of my driving is around the city so the 10 mile tow limit isn't a big deal and all that bothers me is being removed from the motorway safely so I don't mind them dumping the car somewhere (off motorway) for me to sort out even if it costs more as it's unlikely to occur.

I would have got this offer instead for sure but as said my car is too old.
