He stopped to find the wheel arch plastic guard had come off and was hanging by some nuts. They wouldn't come out to assist as his "engine was still running fine"He then spent 1 hour without any tools ripping the plastic guard off the wheel arch.

There's a moral in that story....Always carry at least a basic tool kit. 😋 Spanner lol

The good point was that your 'friend' was honest enough to tell them the truth. The brutal realty is any other breakdown cover team in UK would have said the same(if you don't know how to knock down a piece of noisy plastic, don't drive dude...ha ha..I hope it is not your autobiography)

It may be "a bit of plastic" but it is designed to be tough so "knock down a piece of noisy plastic" which is part of the car fittings isn't easy with your bare hands -eapecially when parked on grass verge of a dual carriageway.

Also the point about leaving it dragging for it to potentially further damage the car or left on road for other cars to run over isn't exactly wise.

Personally being an engineer I am a handy person and carry a tool kit but not everyone will. Other breakdown companies such as AA don't cover tyre punctures but they will try and find a tyre repairer to attend at your cost or if they can't find one they will recover you and not leave you at the side of the road- I know from experience.

@mymymy - the moral of the story is, you get what you pay for.

Your description of ''eapecially when parked on grass verge of a dual carriageway''(the typo is noted) make me suspicious that this could be your own experience or your 'friend' has described the picturesque description so precisely. All the UK breakdown companies will attend flat tyres and batteries. This company confirms in their FAQ that they would do that too.

Errr....yeah ok it was me good one...I feel so embarrassed!! What is your problem you loser? Are you feeling some sort of superiority complex here? I wouldn't personally take out cheap deals like this.. I like a bargain but quality always plays in my mind too!!

I gave an honest anecdote about my friends experience with this company so others can bear this in mind when deciding whether to purchase. You need a life mate, go out an enjoy your Saturday instead of trolling!!

Having had the same thing happen to me (on the motorway to Zaragoza!) I can tell you that 'bit of plastic' isn't going to easily part company with the car.

And a 'basic tool kit' with a spanner won't be much use either.

(Incidentally, nor would Autoaid over there.)

I assumed the tow-truck would arrive and haul us off to a garage in the middle of nowhere. But, being Spanish, he turned up with a MASSIVE saw, and removed the said article.

Also 40% Topcashback On New Valid Breakdown Cover.
