Looks like Currys PC World has price matched the Argos offer.
Use code: MIC10 to get 10% discount in the basket.

I think this is better deal as there is also 5% quidco ending in 4 days (26/07).
Here you also get a more choices on both Surface and Surface Pro configurations, and the 10% discount is applied to some of the bundles with Type Cover and Pen if you plan to get them together.

Thanks just saved £49.00

Recently replace my ipad with this, love it im hooked

For those deliberating between this and surface pro 3..

Pros(why choose this over surface pro)

1. Powerful enough – I have been playing hotline Miami 2 with this with an xbox controller, editing word and excel documents, playing 1080p videos without a hitch
2. Form Factor – In my opinion I preferred the more compact size. This about an inch longer then my ipad 2 and feels more tablet like
3. Price
4. Micro USB charging
5. Brighter screen then Surface Pro

Cons

1. Slow Charging (takes 4-5 hours to charge from 0%). Surface pro is twice as fast to charge. Think this is due to limitations with micro USB
2. Doesn't use an SSD like Surface Pro 3 - uses slow eMMC w/c will affect data transfer times, program load times, etc
3. Doesn't have Full Power USB 3.0 port - won't power devices like an external burner
4. Doesn’t have infinite kickstand
5. Less power
6. Pen not included as with Pro

Unlike the ipad im genuinely excited to see how Microsoft continue to improve this device going forwards. Form factor was the clincher for me in choosing this over the surface pro

Another pro I'd add is there is no fan with the Surface 3. It's nice bringing it into meetings to take notes and not have a fan kick in. Don't know if I can handle a fan on during meetings, it'd stick out like a sore thumb.

I've been considering one of these for a while as a viable laptop replacement, my only reservation would be whether the i5/4GB/128GB model would be sufficient for running Visual Studio express editions.

Still expensive for the Pro. The Core i5/128GB model is £765 after discount.
I got a brand new one on eBay for £630 (+ another £50 discount when they had the recent 20% offer).

I am happy with the Pro 3 - but would have preferred the size of the Surface 3 (around 10.5" screen compared to 12").
But the charging issues and lack of power put me off slightly. If this is your only device then I would advise going for the Pro model. If you have access to a more powerful laptop/desktop anyway then go for the Surface 3.

The Surface 3 does look a good every day device but they should have pitched the 4GB model with a keyboard £499 and it would have been much better value.

I am guessing there may be further discounts towards the end of the year also.

I have the i5 4gb 128 model and I have to say it is without a doubt one of the best bits of kit I have ever purchased. Had it for 5/6 months now and haven't had a hiccup. Also windows 10 for free on the 29th July

Definitely a pro, but as someone who uses a SP3 in meetings almost daily I've never once had the fan kick in. Fan only kicks in for me when I'm doing something more intensive than browsing/note taking. Also when charging it seems to come on when the screen is on, not sure if it's the extra heat from charging or if the device is doing some background tidying style jobs whilst it's plugged in.

For the price of the Pro I'd be tempted to wait until the rumoured SP4 using Intel's new Skylake processors which should be released in two or three months time.

Given the form factor the reported improvements to heat and power consumption (and reduced CPU throttling) that Skylake will bring is probably worth a few months wait.

This looks a good deal. I'm going to need something as I will be working abroad for a period of time and I can't decide between this or an alternative. I've done some research but can't find any other decent alternatives. Plus, I don't know whether to wait for the Surface 4 but the problem is I'm going to be leaving near the end of next month so will need to decide.

I'm looking at the i3 but not sure if the extra spend is worth it for the i5. What do people think?
The keyboard cover. Any other alternatives from the official one considering it's quite expensive?

Thinking of selling my iPad Air 2 and getting a Surface 3, reckon I'll get more use out of it. Hmmmm

Do it! Sell the iPad while it is still worth a few quid (and before the new exactly the same 2015 model comes out!).
Surface products are quite good - but not many people give them a chance as they are now used to these 'apps' which are really only designed for mobile devices.
But I do agree that Android and Apple mobile developers have had to innovate in order to achieve the required goals and they are probably more powerful for viewing and sending video externally than a standard windows laptop/pc.

I think with Windows 10 - hopefully we will see better developed apps within the Windows store due to a larger user base (if everyone on Windows 7 and 8 upgrades).

If you are not running too many CPU intensive applications then the i3 should be ok. It will still be a fair bit quicker than the Atom processor in the Surface 3.
The main issue is only 64GB SSD - when you add in Windows 8 and Office and a few other applications you won't have much on board storage. Might be worth checking online what the actual usable storage capacity is.
If you are happy to use external USB drives and the microSD card then go for it.
It still has the 4GB RAM which is more important as it can't be upgraded.

I saw Argos were doing the i3 refurbished for around £500 when I got mine. There is one for £520 brand new here though: Surface Pro 3 - i3 on Ebay

Keyboard is a bit of an issue though. I didn't get one as I was hoping I could pick-up a cheap one from eBay or even a US model. I haven't bothered purchasing one yet - but I do already have a Bluetooth keyboard I can pair it with.
If you are wanting to use it on the go - then I don't think there is any better alternative than the official type cover 3 unfortunately!

For example you can get a stand alone bluetooth keyboard - but you can only use it when you have a large enough desk space to place both items (unless you do some awkward balancing on your legs).
Don't forget that the official keyboard does include a (tiny) trackpad and does not need any additional power. It is also very light.

I would say spend as little as possible and then upgrade to a Surface Pro 4 early next year if it is as good as promised!

^^ Thanks for the reply with some good info and food for thought. Expansys still have the i3 model available but I'm probably going to wait until mid-August because I don't want to jump too early.

Going back to uni in September, this seems like the perfect device for a student. The i5 with 8GB ram is still pretty expensive after the discount and keyboard added - £1000+, anyone with the i3 version and 4GB ram, is it good enough to do most things? I would be using it as a note taking device, and at home connecting it to my 4K TV to use it like a desktop device. I guess I can just get the Surface 3 as a note taking device, sell my iPad Air 2, and keep my Macbook to do all the other heavy computing stuff. If only I could try one out for a week.

Also why are the Amazon ones quite a bit cheaper than the ones at Currys PC World? Am I missing something?
