£10 for 8Mb Broadband - Virgin Media retention deal

Found 10th Oct 2007
I have just called Virgin for a MAC code on 0800 05201664

I was on 1Mb for £15/month, now 8Mb for a tenner.

- credit to saynoto0870.com for the freephone number- (great website by the way- save your bank landline to your mobile for inclusive minutes use!)

Unsurprisingly they a special offer that has just become available £10 a month, 8 Mb broadband with free router or digibox and free calls.
(Got a router, live in the peak district so can't get digital anyway, got a mobile with more free calls than i'll ever have friends- still might be useful for the ladies.)

Tiscali have a rival package with inclusive line rental and extra's but not in my area!

********Remember Quidco for about £40 extra*********

Best to mention as 'retention deal' in the title

did they tie you in to a new contract?

Worth mentioning that it's ADSL and not for cable internet connection

I'm paying Virgin £24.99 a month for my 8MB connection. :x

Do I need to ring up and pretend to be leaving.... what should i say?

1st mention this is for VM ADSL customers since most VM customers are on cable.

2nd how do you get quidco when you call up and are already a customer?

3rd check ]samknows.com see if you can do better/faster elsewhere

well done to the Op to get the deal, but previous threads dictate, that your deal is dependent on who you speak with, and more often that not will only be for a certain period and "not for life".
I have tried on several occasions to renegotiate, and quite frankly VM are not the slightest bit bothered by bully-boy threats of leaving.

Just had to ring VM again today for the umpteenth month running as bill wrong (again),threatened to cancel (again) and as a result i am now getting my services for £20.50 for the next 3 months. This is XL BB,line rental and Talk unlimited. The discounts are 1/2 price BB,free Talk unlimited and £9 reduction for having 2 services.£57.50 worth of services for £20.50 represents about 65% discount. As i say,i am constantly on the phone to complain, but as long as i keep getting a result,at the end of the day i am happy,so keep on at them, don't just settle for what they want to charge you.

What number do I call for Retentions????

Hello it's me the postee (?)

It is retention for me but this is available for new customers as well.

New customers can get the quidco, I couldn't over the phone.
Cable offers are much better, with TV etc.

Yes it is a 12 month contract. In 12 months i shall call for a MAC again. They have lost my loyalty after i have been paying £15, £18 and even £25 a month over the last 3 years for less bandwidth than this!!!

Also available for non- retentions though.

12 month contract. At month 12 i will call again for a MAC. They have lost my loyalty I have been charged £15, £18 and £25 over 3 years.

I intended to leave having seen the web page and thought it wasn't fair that loyal customers don't get as good deal.

When I called I intended going to Tiscali, when the salesperson offered me this i almost hung up. Anyway i agreed because i could cancel after 7 days, then called tiscali but couldn't recieve TV or inc. line rental through them. So it kind of happened by default really.

Free Virgin TV is a bit of a con as its Freeview so free anyway !

is this if you have the phone line with them aswell?

Im currently on a 2gb line for £18 which isnt the best of deals, It originally started off at £10 for 12 months then went back to the normal price of £18.

edit: also with my time with ntl/virgin i have never once recieved a paper bill

1 mb for 16 quid and they again(third time) charge me wrong :x **** :x give me normal speed for normal money http://kolobok.us/smiles/standart/cray.gif
p.s. moders sorry for that http://kolobok.us/smiles/standart/blush2.gif

Fairly sure you get more on VM.

When I was going along Oxford Rd VM were there selling to the students. Thye had an offer on for 3 for £20. I pay 3 for £30. The fella told me I should ring up and ask for the same deal. Not done it yet but I'll give it a shot tomorrow.

A little off-topic, but can anyone suggest to me what do about my current problem with Virgin? My internet is running really slow and is down a lot of the time. Their technical support is now on a premium-rate number but when I called it I got an Indian call-centre and after a few minutes talking, the guy on the other end admitted he simply couldn't understand what the problem was and was having trouble understanding what I was saying - his English really wasn't great. I tried the customer services line who told me they couldn't deal with internet enquiries, only the premium-rate number could. I explained what had happened and they said to keep ringing until I got someone who did understand me! I'm not willing to do that on a premium-rate number! I filled out a web support form about a month ago which has been totally ignored. I don't know what to do. Any ideas?!

Are you on cable or ADSL? Incidentally they will refund the tech support phone costs, if it's their error.

Is there a "Catch Up" VOD service on Freeview ?
Not counting the +1 channels.

Cable, and they told me I could get the call refunded if it was their error but again, I had to ask the premium-rate guy to arrange that - and he couldn't understand me! I'm stuck!
