They don't - the longer the cable the less sockets' 2 Mtr is around the max for a 10 gang - any longer then 2 mtrs and something could potentially go bang!
Gang and bang don't go well together when you've electricity in the mix oO X)

Well you saved some money compared to this deal.

10 way towers are available for less anyway, £10.99

http://www.amazon.co.uk/Sivitec-Protected-Extension-Active-Indicator-Black/dp/B00WWPR7OS/ref=pd_sim_sbs_201_16?ie=UTF8&refRID=05X5Z5G5KTZ5891NYRER

I found the design of these towers too limiting. If you have any heavier transformer plugged in to any of the upper sockets, it falls over.

I purchased a couple of these instead. 8 sockets, but that was plenty, plus 2 full power USB ports. A little more expensive though at around £20 each.

Plenty - The amazon one is basic cheap as chips - this homebase one is exactly the same as the screwfix one apart from the fact it isn't 'masterplug'
2m. 10-socket extension tower with surge, telephone and broadband protection and built-in cable tidies.2 large size transformer sockets and 8 mains sockets.
Includes telephone and broadband protection. Single power switch and neon power. Good earth indicators.

I never said it was the same. I was replying to rawhead's post, not specifically to your OP.

Irrespective, 10 way surge protected extension leads are available for less. Not everyone needs or wants the telephone and broadband sockets.

Plus if anyone is interested, the original Masterplug one from Screwfix has a £3000 connected equipment warranty. The print in bold - this Homebase one doesn't have Certainly worth the extra quid or so.

But you never said it wasn't the same neither did you oO
Just pointing out that saying there are cheaper out their is fine - but please compare apples with apples otherwise it gives people the impression this isn't a good deal at all which isn't true

Thanks for confirming Think I'll head to Homebase and pick one of these up then. Didn't realise a power tower had that many features available! I'm assuming a Masterswitch simply controls which socket is on and off?

That's correct, but trust you to choose the negative connotation.

Out there. Thanks for the permission though, much appreciated.

Maybe if you didn't try passing it off as a Masterplug one (which comes with a £3000 connected warranty, unlike this deal of yours) in all but name, you might not sound so silly giving this advice to others.

at all which isn't true

In your opinion of course. Mine? I voted cold, mainly because of your description, but also similar products are available for less.

Sorry for all the questions, but which one is better? The Screwfix one or the Homebase one? I'd rather pay the extra for a more reliable product.

If there's a Screwfix near you, you would be better off picking up the original Masterplug version for about a £1 more. It comes with a £3000 connected equipment warranty, which this one doesn't have.

the one I picked up from screwfix was not the same as the picture on their website.

different on/off switch
no dust covers on the phone/broadband connections
different socket layout with 4 on either side of the bottom section and then a further 3 layers of 2

in my opinion the model pictured in superior (lack of dust covers, the button seems less robust, the layer with 4 sockets is more difficult to actually push the plugs into) so if you can get on of these from homebase for less money then it is a loads better deal
