I'm not sure that's a particularly good spec for that price. Plenty of others around that pricepoint with similar specs.

could the people voting cold in the first few minutes enlighten me as to why they think this is a bad buy and may be post a helpful comment as to where I can get a better deal, or are just waiting to vote cold on every deal they come a cross.

Haven't voted either way but I would rather have a big brand name for that price. To be fair this one does have a good processor to aid battery life and the other specs are fine. Personally I've had a few issues with electrical returns at Aldi so that also puts me off.

thriller-deejay you amazon eee-pc is good but with the medion you get bluetooth a better screen led and 3-year warranty.
but thanks for your input

Have always found ALDI very fair on returns, maybe my local branch, but a 3 year warranty is worth quite a lot.

All warranty has to be done direct with the telephone number on the item as with all aldi electricals as the store will have nothing to do with it even if faulty after the 30 day refund period.

One reason not to buy from them, may as well buy online as for me the only benefit of buying on the high street is being able to return easy for warranty purposes.

Yeah very true i would vote hot if the brand name was better, i have had a medion laptop and it broke few years after having it, i rang them to ask about it and they didnt even have the model number on record anymore because it was too old :S. If they have sorted out there customer service then maybe this is worth a buy..

Heat added, I have a Medion notebook and desktop. Top quality machines and never had a problem + 3 yr warranty is great.

I wouldn't dis it until you've tried it first hand, I thought it would be a pain as well until I has to return a Sat Nav. Logged on, put my details in, chose a pickup day (paid for by them). It was fixed and returned almost by return post. All without having to get in the car and drive to a shop. With all these places they can be picky about NFF's and charge (rightly so if it is user error) but video it not working before it goes back then you'll have the evidence and make sure that you fully describe the fault and put this detail in with your returned item.

I've had loads of Medion/Tevion gadgets and they have been good quality, good valve and have worked well for years, after all, most of the kit in a Medion PC is the same branded stuff you'd get in other PCs anyway!!

I have tried it. Only with a cheap kettle maybe but they would not replace or refund in store I had to go call a number. It was a pain so I avoid electricals from Aldi, simples:thumbsup:

If I buy in store I expect warranty instore not by telephone so I may as well buy online or go to a store that operates as it should!

By the way I am not saying anything bad about Medion stuff as it seems well made. It's Aldi's warranty policy I find a pain.

I brought a medion from Sainsburys ; after 10/11 months it had developed serious problems so I took it back to the store I brought it from. After 5 minutes explaining the problems they gave me a full refund..... top service...

Poor company, high price, cold.

Have you heard of the Sales of Good Act?
The contract is with the retailer: Aldi and NOT Medion.
You can return to the store and they have to sort it out.
If not, "one letter before action" should be enough for a repair/refund.

You are 100% correct but they still refused my electrical returns (3 in total and 1 a Medion laptop) and they point blank refuse to change their view that I would have to call a number. When I said I was going to get a solicitor to send a letter they offered me the address of head office because they said that's where it would end up. I'm sure if I really pushed it they would have done something but I shouldn't have to when something has failed. Hence I won't buy any electrical items from them again.

Just glad (or sad?) to see I'm not the only person who's had problems with them when returning things.

Hi Chalk your right and I’m wrong, yes they do both have the same screen and the spec is very similar but the medion has a different cpu and I’m sure some one can tell use which is better Intel Atom N270 or Atom processor N450?

Bottom line is Aldi are crap with returns but the warranties are fine just not in store which is why I do not shop there now. Problem is they only stock things for short periods apart from the tat no one wants which sits in buckets for months!

Medions are the worst quality laptops i have ever seen. the medion is even outlived by the hp nvidia problem and thats saying something. and yes quoted by a laptop engineer of many years

This person here is very correct. It is the responsibility of the seller and not the manufacturer to uphold warranty. buyers warranty with the retailer, retailers warranty is with manufacturer. to be honest, good spec, good warranty, decent price, but only if you want to be without a laptop for 1 year out of 3 sending it off for repair. build quality is poor on most medions. you only need to look at it and something will fall off or crack.

The N270 was upgraded to the similar N280 with the processor speed moving from 1.6GHz to 1.666GHz - but the biggest benefit was the bus speed increasing from 533 to 667.

The N280 and the N450 have similar speeds for processor and bus. HOWEVER the N450 has other chips previously on the mobo now on the processor - which still manages to use the same power as the N280 - but no longer needs to power the other mobo chips so uses far less power.

N wifi too - and three year warranty.

The only reason not to buy is name snobbery - as its likely you will trash it while travelling long before the 3 year warranty expires.

thx for the info ibiza - do you know if this laptop will be decent for multi tasking?

Hi, thanks

there's a similar spec MSI on Argos ATM with 3 cell battery

It depends what you want to multitask.

To run messenger and play an MP3 it will do easily.

To convert a video to MP4 and open a 1000 page spreadsheet is unlikely.

So could you be a bit more specific?

Hi, thanksthere's a similar spec MSI on Argos ATM with 3 cell battery rgs

Add £100 for the three year warranty from Argos - and the worse spec computer costs more.

This is the new Pine Trail chipset.

Before it was 3 separate chips = CPU, GPU and I/O controller.

They have integrated the CPU + GPU into 1 Chipset thus reducing size and power but not much if any difference in performance gain.

If anyone buys this - can they say if its there is easy access to up the memory and also if it would be easy to swap the HD for an SSD?

Cheers - rep waiting!

Went to my local store yesterday in the forlorn hope of getting one of these as a present for my daughter,i was correct, none left, however the manager rang all the stores in the area and managed to locate the one remaining netbook in the entire area.Went along to collect, only to find it wasn't this model, but the 11.6" medion E1312,but at the same price.Decided to buy it and then discover whether i had a good buy or not, knowing i could return if not satisfied. The question is now for you techie guys......have i got a good buy or not????
