As you're gonna spend the first 2 days acclimatising to being over 3,000metres above sea level - staying in a decent hotel like this is a good idea !

That's me sorted when I go to the chemists tomorrow, "yes mate I need it as I'm away to Peru next week"

Really want to go to Peru, but want to hike so should probably just look for flights!

We went to Peru. You do have to acclimatise but it probably won't take 2 days. Depends what time you arrive really. Late and you sleep might not feel much, some might get an headache but as long as you are not silly and go running around town I wouldn't worry. If you do go out around the town on arrival expect to throw esp if you drink the coca :-)

Best way to do if your not into hiking is with a planned trip Amazon boat, jungle stay perhaps some horse riding & the Inca trail. Perhaps Brazil is better in Feb, I don't know.
Flight link not working. Avianca are the worst airline I have come across, you will almost definitely be delayed at Bogota and loose a day so bear that in mind.

Plenty of other trails but it will likely be pissing down

You must have been unlucky - my flight with them was fine.

When I started up the trail to Machu Pitcu I got about 100 yards and dropped down saying "go on without me I can't do it". Our guild gave a pill and I don't think it was Viagra as I would be able to walk is it was :-)

Saw the exact same thing happening to people when I was on the return home so it's clearly how they operate, one group was on an organized tour and supposed to spend the day in Lima, before flying elsewhere and were fuming it would be evening by the time they got there. It's in their reviews as well so not just my observations. Don't even expect a reply from their customer service.
