Books of second class stamps and first class stamps are on sale with 10% off. You can get books of six or twelve. There is a limit of two books per customer.....but how would they know at the newspaper counter if you had already bought some at the checkout?

Anyway, now you can write complaint letters to your MP about the economy, his expenses, potholes or whatever - at a discount! Get 'em quick - expires Sunday!

Good deal, but why do the idiots want to limit it to "two books per customer"? Not as if there is a finite number of stamps out there :x

I cant see any previous heads up. Whats that about?

I was pretty sure stamps were not allowed to be discounted, never heard of stamps being reduced in price before.

I was looking for free eyesight tests and found this great site. I had heard about a good offer with Plain lazy and decided maybe people wanted to know about it. But a moderator said I was working for them and put LOL at the end and then I was banned from using the site. Now I'm really confused - I thought I was helping out.

Superdrug regularly discount stamps - at Christmas for example. But usually only by 5%. I think the main idea is to get people into Morrisons to do their weekly shop - worked for me!

thought so myself, I know u used to be able to cash stamps in, not sure if u still can??

if so, that would explain the limit!

The limit is set to prevent big users such as myself from abusing it. When superdrug do it the manager is usually fine about selling more than the maximun limit per customer dont know about morrisons though.

remember stamps are legal tender

Self-promotion (where you personally benefit) is NOT allowed and we're quite strict about it. If you wish to discuss further, you may want to ask in Misc section and a Mod will clarify.

Thanks! Will stock up tomorrow

I don't understand why they keep putting the prices of stamps up. Surely with so much online shopping the Royal Mail must never have had so much business.

They don't get that much money for letters. Their main profitable part of RM is special delivery which is why when Amazon left them - it was such a major blow for RM.

Its like BT - they have to wholesale their infastructure. RM has to do it for TNT and all of them.

This sort of thing only helps toward the forever speedie demise of the post office while the supermarkets reign supreme!

Cold from me

Can always get discounted stamps at costco, so obviously allowed.

Exacty, people will buy cheap stamps at a supermarket etc and then complain when their local PO closes down.

I haven't voted on this deal, but its not good for the PO:roll:

yep thats where i get mine from. good deal or non-costco customers though

There are always good deals online from stamp dealers who sell at bigger discounts than this with no limit to the amount you buy, just google 'discount stamps' to find them.

Reduced postage stamps. Who'd have thought????

Next thing you know fresh air will have a price sticker on it.

Voting hot though!

No, they aren't.

I would imagine the limit is there because the profit they are likely to make on stamps is going to be less than 10% - which means that they are selling them at a loss and using the promotion purely to attract customers

The price of postage will continue to increase for as long as fuel prices continue to increase since that is obviously one of their largest expenditures. You'll find that Royal Mail are more affected by fuel price increases because they actually physically deliver a great percentage of the mail which is purchased via their competitors who obviously make much more profit from the deal. The unfortunate side effect of european competition law is that Royal Mail can no longer be subsidised by the government or the taxpayer and will only decrease in size as it has no freedom or power to prevent their competitors from swallowing their business at their expense.

altough i feel for the PO gotta vote this deal on its merits..ie discounted stamps.

There's always 'the' bone head here with an IQ that matches his shoe size. i work for royal mail- up every day at 4am with 750 delivery points. Royal mail's plans are to slash jobs all over the business & pile more work on the average postie. My round takes just over 3 hours. RM plans to push a further 500+ delivery points on to us postmen !!! WE ARE NOT WALKING MACHINES. (WE ARE NOT ROBOTS). Adam crozier & his henchmen seem to think we are. And the 'clown' above should do some research before wasting his time making idle comments !!

Absolute tosh! I work office hours, so no matter if the post office was 2% cheaper, I would never go there - they don't open when I shop. As for voting cold, because you don't agree with the offer, I think you should be warned - this is HotUKDeals, not SaveOurPostOffices.com - deals are to be voted hot if not available elsewhere for the same price!

Anyone know why some people seem to think stamps are legal tender?

I agree with others that deals such as this will close post offices down. Cold - sorry.

I dont think the Post Office makes any profit at all from 1st and 2nd class.

While I agree that it is unfair to ask posties to do more & more, it is a fact of modern life that every employer is doing the same with every employee. Surely striking is not the best way - it alienates the public & speeds the demise of the business - if each strike loses 3 major business customers, it will only make the situation worse more quickly.

dont forget stamps may go up 3p ish a year try posting an internal letter in europe ie germany i think its like £1.50 each small letter

I've been trying not to get involved in this discussion as I work for a part of the Royal Mail Group, but I have to say that I agree with you. The simple truth is that each time the staff strike, they not only push more and more business customers towards alternative carriers, but they also whittle away at any sympathy the public may have with them.

PS I voted hot. A discount is a discount which after all is what this site is all about.

So every employee-postman- should be asked to deliver to 1400+ premises that will take him/her 6 hours regardless of age ? We have half a dozen posties in our office in their mid to late fifties who will almost certainly will pack the job in if RM get their way. I'm pushing 40 & finding some days a struggle the way it is !! As for the public- i told seven customers yesterday on my rounds that we were striking today & NOT one knew we were to strike ! And if they're unaware of the strike they'll obviously be unaware of the terms & conditions changes for RM staff. While i agree that contracts are probably being lost due to strike action, royal mail management should have thought this through before throwing further piles of work into our satchels/trolleys.

Assuming you're qualified to do anything more than walking and striking.

Another ill informed comment from a poster whose brain cells are colliding like bumper cars at the town circus !! I actually LIKE my job as do the majority of postal workers. Royal mail however are clever. -Rather than target job cuts & change to the whole country RM are targetting certain districts & offices one at a time knowing that the whole country won't be without delivery, just certain parts of the country. A national ballot is on the cards & will almost certainly be voted through. ME- well i am ''resting'' on my strike day !!!!

Thinking to much about yourself pal! thats one of the big problems with this country. Too many people like you! plenty of vulnerable people rely on the service that the PO provide.

Dickie Boy - It is also the main problem with this website! So many users vote cold without posting a reason although it will be something daft like the one you quote. Some of the best deals are actually on the new section and never make it to hot because of idiotic reasons.:?
