Went to BSM today to pay for 30 lessons and expected to pay £562.50.

I produced my Barclaycard to pay for it & to my surprise, the reciept automatically deducted 10% off just because I used my Barclaycard!

Plus I also earned about £5 cashback from their new Barclaycard Freedom Rewards program.

So altogether I saved over £60! The 10% discount applies when you spend £200 or more.

Needless to say, it was a pleasant but unexpected surprise. I ended up paying £506.25 for 30 lessons (which works out to £16.88 per lesson!) Thats cheaper than most local independent instructors charge.

Just thought I would mention this in case anyone on here is planning to learn to drive or knows someone who is.

Can't understand why people are voting cold?! Just thought I would try to help someone.

Most local instructors near me charge £14 or £15 an hour due to the competition to get pupils.

If you are using BSM make sure your instructor has a green badge otherwise they are a trainee (pink badge). Most people leave BSM when they are qualified due to the cost of the franchise fee!!

Oh I see! My local instructors wanted £18-£20.

Thanks for the info regarding the green/pink badges though! I'll be sure to check before I take my first lesson.

I booked my daughter a block of lessons with BSM but then cancelled and got my money back after the instructor spent most of the time on his mobile phone.
I spoke to the manager who agreed it was dangerous and she said she would talk to him, but then I saw the same instructor with someone else in the car next to him - still on his mobile!

I had lessons with BSM myself and was booked in for a driving test. On the lesson before the test the instructor said he was cancelling it because my driving skills were terrible and needed at least another ten lessons. I went for the test in another car anyway and passed first time.

BSM dont have the best name in the business unfortunately - too high a turnover of staff due to high franchise charges and lots of trainee instructors on pink licences who are not supervised or regulated in any way - we were behind a BSM learner today on the dual carriageway and they cut up an AA lorry, swinging across lanes without even indicating ! The instructor was busy texting and the learner looked scared to death and clearly hadnt a clue of the correct way to deal with the road he was on.
