£10 off new 64Gb iPhone 6, possibly more with quidco on 02 refresh

£609.99O2 Deals

Found 12th Sep 2014
With thanks to the original deal by Tomwatts that inspired me to check this:

hotukdeals.com/tag/dea…808

i followed much the same process:

1. login to quidco (tcb may be available, i didn't check)
2. access o2 site
3. select ip6 64Gb in whatever colour
4. choose the tarriff at 129.99 upfront cost (unlimited mins/texts, 20g data, £129.99 up front, £48/month)
5. note the device amount payable in the representative example= £609.99
6. complete the order as normal and get the device delivered on / near launch day.
7.follow the remaining steps per tomwatts thread /matturner76's post to unlock the device and pay off the balance, before cancelling within 7 days.
8. enjoy an unlocked iphone 6 marginally cheaper than others.

as said its a £10 saving at least and of the o2 cashback tracks it could be up to £45 depending on how/ if the cashback tracks.

its probably too much effort for most people but i did this to get the 5 refurb at the end of 2013 and it worked a treat.

i'll stick my down jacket on now in preparation.....

This was a steal on the refurbed iPhone 5 but unfortunately it's not a spectacular deal. I think you nailed it, too much effort for a small saving.

He does know how this works. But you're looking at the 16GB iPhone and not the 64GB one.

Cold deal. 600 for a mephone.

Go for a Note 3 and a weekend in Amsterdam instead.

Yep sorry my fault, I thought the normal price of the 16GB was £619.

It is still a saving but is £10 really worth the hassle of cancelling and whatnot. Let's not forget that even if you cancel within the 7 day period, they still charge airtime for those 3-4 days basically meaning you will save about a fiver.

heat for the best ever deal picture by the way

Nice, I like it and almost worth giving you heat for that quote at the end but sadly I can't mate

Not really sure why people are persistant in adding Iphone 6 deals here as they are guaranteed to go very cold but also there is not one deal that is even for a fanboy anywhere near decent. To go to this hassle for the sake of £10 saving on an Iphone 6 just doesn't seem worth it.

apparently the northern lights are visible tonight, i was hoping some polar air might clear the skies

in all seriousness it is a hassle for a tenner off, but you'll have an unlocked 64gb iphone cheaper than the apple store and quicker too (apple store lead time is now 3-4 weeks on 64gb ip6) with the possibility of 28-45 cashback too. i can live with the hassle for that.

this is a valid point Cron. its a trade-off between cancelling early and possibly jeopardising cashback.

i almost forgot apparently with this tariff you get 6 months free insurance, so if you were daft and wanted to keep paying the airtime you could have free insurance for 6 months. The details on this are a bit woolly though.

it also says you'll get a priority "gift" too. Maybe its a balaclava....

Its actually 609.99 - go ahead and round it up to 610 if it makes you feel better though. it makes the "mephone" tag so much more cutting and will give smirking non-apple users that bit more satisfaction.

Whats this O2 refresh thing?

Original Poster

in simple terms its splits the phone and airtime agreements into two payments. the idea being when you pay off the device you can cancel the airtime agreement without paying the remainder of the contract. google will probably explain it better than me though.

Can't unlock the iPhone 6 for ages though!

Original Poster

interesting point - hadn't considered that scenario. i just assumed o2 would unlock it by default if its paid for.

Original Poster

not much comfor from this but its in writing now..

Love seeing u lot going loopy as soon as a phone deal appears. You and the bike nazis make for hilarious reading.

Going short on apple shares i think!

You can cancel the agreement at any time (not just 7 days) and just pay the remaining device plan balance - even 5 months down the line !

Good Deal. I went for the 16gb. £529. Hopefully once I cancel o2 I'll still have the free insurance. I did mine instore so no cashback tho.
[edit] shame the insurance gets cancelled too when your airtime gets cancelled.

Thanks for the update Bobtastic - it was a query i had too. Are you going to pursue an unlock?

that throws a cat amongst the pigeons then. is that documented anywhere? i noted the policy was handset specific, but the o2 chat i posted above suggests it would be possible a few days after launch. the o2 chat staff aren't known for being on the money with their facts though IMO

EDIT - googled it, plenty of evidence with 42, 5 and 5s. Not looking hopeful.

i'm hoping this will be the case, but o2 online chats 2 minutes apart gave conflicting info. one said the ip6 would be fine to unlock straight away, the other said apple were in charge of this process and couldn't give a timescale. i'm going to request it on friday after paying it off and get a refund if its not going to happen.

Use the online form (there was a link in here somewhere) I did this with 2 x HTC One M8s and they came through within hours, though I appreciate as this is an iphone so may be different

yeah, i'll try my luck on Friday and post up the results here. hard to type on this deal , fingers are getting frostbite

the iphone is different usually o2 wont unlock for at least 6 months, every other handset can be done immediately now it might or might not be different this year some last year on the 5 release managed to get an unlock but most didnt ,so its pot luck fill the form in cross your fingers but im not hopefull for you

also if its been dispatched and you have the imei which usually should be on your o2 account you can fill the form out now

so far so good...

picked up the device about 0830 and did a new phone activation. Called cust services and paid off the balance - £480, so 609.99 all in for the phone. I was totally upfront about unlocking and the woman put me on hold to check as she had seen an update about it - said as it was paid in full there should be no problem. This was confirmed again by the agent who put the unlock request through, so it should be unlocked in 72 hours. I'm offline for 72 hours from now so i'll update you when i get back if i've heard anything

Does anyone know if they will have the 02 branding on them?

Original Poster

I assume you mean software wise? I haven't had a poke round much but the start screen was default apple, no O2 branding there.

Great effort !

I picked mine up today and the chap in store also gave me a free Bluetooth speaker (£70 worth).
Will call tomorrow about unlocking.

The O2 priority reward is £30 quids worth or debenhams vouchers or 6 cineworld tickets, but you've got to be signed up for 14 days to get the reward

nice work - no such freebie for me! I was quite surprised how quiet the shop was when i collected. It was only 0815 but about 4 people in the store. Annoyingly though the o2 store has no genuine cases for the 6, only third party ones that looked pretty gash. Need to find a deal on a case now

i haven't heard anything about my unlock so i'll chase it up tomorrow, but i still have the remaining 7 days or can stretch to 14 now as i've paid for the device already. keeping it longer would be good for the cashback and maybe get the reward, but not good as you burn airtime at about a pound a day.

o2 website updated -

"We won't be unlocking iPhone 6 or iPhone 6 Plus for a while. We're prioritising our stock of these devices for customers who want to use them on the O2 network. The exception to this will be O2 Refresh customers who've completely paid off their Device Plan in full - we will therefore allow iPhone 6 and iPhone 6 Plus to be unlocked."

Yeh as soon as I paid off my phone they put me through to the unlocking department and said the instructions for unlocking should be went through within 5 working days (give or take a few days as I can't remember exact number).
Impressed how easy it was, it wasn't a hassle at all. If I ever get a launch day iphone in the future then I'll do it this way as there was no queue in the store, in fact they said only 2 people turned up for the 8am queue. I got there after 9 and was instantly seen to.
