10% off Virgin Trains Advance tickets (Adult) for Virgin Money customers (to 31/12/14)

Had investments with what is now "Virgin Money" for years but hadn't noticed until today that can get 10% off Virgin Trains advance tickets because of it - and had made a couple of Virgin Trains Advance bookings in last week, sigh!

The only catches appear to be (a) 10% off Adult fares only (b) "no other discounts" ie appears no chance to use any Railcards!

There seems a little confusion over the period of validity - one T&Cs reference to 31/1/14 other to 31/12/14, but when just re-checked a booking in June that I'd made it WAS now 10% lower - ie £3.15 instead of £3.50.

(Note: If you are a member of Virgin Flying Club it MIGHT offer you the chance to earn miles on your train travel too - haven't made a booking yet).

There are various other discounts for Virgin Money customers too, but Virgin Trains is the one that struck an immediate chord with me.

Notes:
Virgin Trains advance tickets, like most train companies, are usually available for approx 12 weeks ahead, BUT it seems West Coast engineering work issues are causing significant delays in Virgin Trains releasing them for June and beyond. They have a "Find out when to buy Advance tickets" monthly calendar at:
virgintrains.co.uk/tic…14/
However I've found this is NOT kept bang up to date, but is usually almost up to date - ie if you want a particular date and THINK it should be available, then do keep trying it to buy it until an Advance fare appears.

Virgin Train tickets can of course be bought (without any discount or chance of Virgin Flying Club miles) via other train ticket sites such as RedSpottedHanky (with perhaps 1.5% £back) where you can double your Tesco Clubcard Deals (ie £5 becomes £10 of RSH eVoucher travel), but if you're out of RSH eVouchers this is a good saving.

The other Virgin Money customer offers are at

Good news - the 10% off system DOES offer the chance to enter Virgin Atlantic Flying Club membershipnumber.
So as well as the direct 10% Advance fare discount (and any credit card £back you're part of), there's 2 Flying Club miles for every £ spent on the train ticket - the major benefit of which is extending the life of your existing Flying Club miles by 3 years from when the train journey miles are added to your miles a/c!

24/6 - somehow this thread had been expired, wrongly.

Per the Virgin Money website (see link in first comment)
"1.This offer is available for Virgin Money customers and intermediaries until 31 December 2014."

Still offering the 10% saving for me !

Remember Advance tickets are available up to 12 weeks ahead, sometimes you have to trial and error to find out what the latest available date is (and there are 3 different timelines for (a) Mon-Fri, (b) Sat & (c) Sun trains)

Once a week the National Rail site updates their list of Advance availability ahead by TOC at:
nationalrail.co.uk/tim…spx
but it too is often out of date by up to a week... ie you MAY be able to find BEYOND the dates listed...

Anyone know which journeys are valid for this promotion? can't find it anywhere....:|

It must be a journey that is ONLY on Virgin and for which an Advance ticket is available.

The Virgin page that gave you that error goes on to include a link that says
"Continue to book non-promotional full fare tickets"
if you follow THAT link you should see a table of results with NO Advances showing.

eg If I try to get an Advance from EUS to BHM tomorrow 16/8 it says the error/alert you got and shows only Super Off-Peak fares, whereas if I put it for 16/9 It offers various "Virgin Money" fares which are eg £6.75 ie £7.50 less 10%.

28Sep14: No idea why this thread has been expired. The offer is STILL running and is planned to work to 31/12/14, though whether for bookings by then or travel by then I can't remember.

7Nov14: glad to see this hasn't been wrongly expired again. Can confirm offer still live and well - saved 10% yet again today - buying 3Dec14 Advances.
Don't forget you can also claim a few NECTAR or Virgin Flying Club points on your purchase too.

Can clarify when the current 10% offer does expire - it's available for journeys to 31/12/14 - if you try to buy 1/1/15 it says
"The Date of your Outward Journey is outside the permitted dates for use with this promotion."
