10% Student Discount at Wilko (Certain stores only)

I read on a student forum yesterday that you could get 10% discount at Wilko's using your nusExtra card. But someone argued that their store refused to accept the card ... I sent an email to Wilko's asking for clarification. I've received the following reply:-

Thanks for contacting Customer Care.
At this time student discount is only available in certain stores, the participating stores are as follows; Plymouth, Exeter, Falmouth, Taunton, Yeovil, Weston Super Mare.
There are plans to extend this nationwide but at this time we don’t have information regarding when this will be.
Kind regards

odd choice of stores, unless it's a roll-out starting from the South West, you would think they target metropolitan areas with high student population

And possibly take a massive hit when it proves more popular than expected? Nah, trial it in quieter areas first to get a feel on how it's going to affect business.
Wilkos must think no genuine/non-genuine students lives up North West or Yorkshire. Ignorant b@stards.
Didn't realise it didn't work outside of Devon, I frequently used it when studying in Plymouth. Mine expired recently so I am glad I've not bothered to renew, as I can still get superdrug etc on unidays

Taunton, Yeovil, and Weston-super-Mare aren't in Devon, they're in Somerset ;-)

I've been using my student card at the Exeter store for 3-4 years. I usually just use my Bristol or Exeter Uni cards and have only been denied discount maybe 2 out of 60 or so visits.

Rejections were because once I had my Bristol card and they said they only accept Exeter cards. The second time was because they said they only accept NUS cards.

It's been in the Exeter store for 3-4 years at least, so far longer than a trial.. They said it's the managers discretion, so I imagine its the SW regional manager which has decided to offer it.

I used to use my UNiDAYS but then one time they said it had to be a nus. Spoke to the manager and they said they shouldn’t have taken my UNiDAYS. So haven’t tried since.

You might as well try every time, they can only say no.

I take it you’ve never been to Plymouth, there’s more students in our city than non students everywhere you look is more bloody student accommodation.

Am liking how you put the NW and Yorks together there. In situations such as these, we are as one.
I'm about to nip into Wilkos will see how it pans out.
A couple of years ago I was told that the 10% student discount at Wilko is only available if the town actually has a University. I live in Exeter and you can get student discount there. I did try in Torquay once and it was refused on the grounds that Torquay did not have a University.
I’ve used mine in Plymouth, Exeter and Falmouth, didn’t realise it wasn’t national though... Never seen it advertised at any of the stores I’ve used it at, not actually sure how I found out

Bloody students who fuel the Plymouth economy it's always a ghost town when the students leave in summer!
Student discount ended at the back end of 2017 as far as i'm aware - has anyone used it in 2018?
Experienced this myself while on holiday in Cornwall, came back to London and have had nothing but odd looks back at me when I ask!
