Just a heads up to those that 'qualify'

Yes, if you meet the criteria. The boiler grant is part of the Energy Company Obligation (ECO); a government scheme funded by utility companies including the 'Big Six'

This grant helps low income households in England, Scotland and Wales to become more energy efficient and lower heating bills. Eligible households with an old boiler, that's 10 years old or more, can apply to install a new A-rated boiler for free using a Gas Safe Registered Boiler Grant Installer.

If you don't qualify for a 100% boiler grant the Green Deal Finance Scheme can provide a loan, as an alternative, enabling you to carry out energy efficient home improvements at no upfront cost. Find out if you are eligible for a free replacement boiler by completing the Boiler Grant online form today.

I recently had a boiler fitted by Sustain funded 100% by grant. From application to fitting was only 1 month, fantastic fitters too from Gregor Heating :-)

If its from the government its actually subsidised through taxpayers money and by overcharging people who do not qualify. But good luck to those who can get it.

How can this work when all old boilers were just for hot water while new ones require connection to central heating? Do the men in black come round and fit you out with a full complement of radiators also?

How can you have an existing gas boiler if you do not have central heating?

new boilers don't require connection to central heating, and there are plenty of boilers older than ten years that are hooked up to central heating.

Hi, my dad recently got a new boiler and raditors fitted through this scheme, but I was wondering if anyone knows of anyone who would come to inspect it to check its fitted correctly? When a friends parents gor theirs done, Scottish Gas surveyed it first, it was fitted by a gas safe reg company who had the place covered in health and safety signage whilst fitting and they also renewed all pipes as they said they couldn't be responsible for old pipework. They also said it was compulsory to have hardwired smoke alarms fitted. Then after fitting it was inspected again by Scottish Gas.

When my dads was fitted 2 guys in shirts and trousers were dropped off with the new boiler and radiators, they kept the old pipes and even reused the thermostats from the old radiators and fitted them to the new ones. It was fitted about 2 weeks ago and no one has been in touch to inspect it? This was all from a guy who came to my dads door and when I asked by dad for paperwork to see all he had is a tick box sheet and the only number is the mobile of the guy who first came to the door?

Any suggestions folks?

I was worried about cold caller's also, which is why I havn't used any of them, I would much rather get the work done properly free or not free

Can anyone here recommend a company?

I contacted these people today, they called back took the details and said British Gas would fit in about 6 weeks. Cool!

Just applied, see what they have to say. Always a bit suspect of things like this.

Heat added as although it wouldn't be worth me applying it will be great for those who can benefit.

I don't get any benefit listed the ESA benefit my daughter who lives with me does get this ......am I eligible for a free boiler??

good if you earn **** money or are on benefits the rest of us have to pay full price but then again I wouldn't have a boiler 10 years old

DOES NOT HAVE TO BE 10 YEARS OLD!!!
iv applied and am waiting to hear a reply after 2 inspections about the scheme. I went through Southern Electric which is part of the big six. My current boiler is called iDeal, a crap boiler given by Warm front 6-7 years ago. Its cost me £500 to fix in only 4 years and still rising so iv told them this. Fingers crossed il get a new one. This is not government funded it is the law of the big 6 energy company's to pay for, do some research.

I think that schemes like this should have applicants investigated and freeloaders shouldn't be eligible. Oap's, disabled, redundant and struggling, single parents etc should get them, never had a job people shouldn't get them. I'm no big earner and just paid 2 months wages for my new boiler. Should pay for itself if it lasts 10 years.

so let me get this straight... there idea of low income households is 100% exclusively people on benefits? nice way of screwing the government i suppose with over inflated estimates £1500-£2300 for a new boiler fitted if you want to pay? yea lovely il have two... can get a whole central heating system fitted for that, low income households arent just people on benefits, what about the people working all hours god sends just to pay bills on minimum wage... anyway rant over lol

and just to clear up... it is NOT law, and it IS a government scheme thats why its the "Government Energy Company Obligations" scheme... they are obliged to replace a boiler at there discretion not by law or any other entity!

I applied as im eligible and my boiler has to be at least 25yrs old, they phoned me back within an hour and said British Gas would contact be within 6 weeks to arrange to fit. I had considered that company that advertise with Johnny Ball but read so many bad reviews so a bit happier that BG will be fitting.

Think I might find a new job, but instead of going straight into another job i might claim Job Seekers for a month, bag a new boiler, get some free dental treatment, free perscriptions, free loft insulation, get my cavity wall insulated and then get a new job. I've paid national insurance and income tax for the last 25 years so think i derserve a few freebies in return (_;)

more free stuff for the unemployed

My husband works but on low income . I had a boiler fitted 25th feb it is a dissgrace . They came at 5 o clock to fit it and wer here just over 3 hours . The following morning i woke up to a pool of water . I rang the company who wer contracted through eco solutions . They wer from scotland . The water pressure tap is directly in front of the outlet pipe i have to shove the pipe out of the wall to turn the tap . Pipe at top of boiler is still leaking . . Ive had a plumber look at it he hasnt done anything and says its not square either . I rang eco solutions the day before yesterday and totaly told them what i thought . He said hed ring the contractors . He rang them rang me back and said they wer in the area yesterday and would come and rectify it . He also said he would come and have a look . He did n9t turn up and neither did the fitters so it is still the same . The plumber said they had fitted the cheapest boiler they cud and have probably charged the earth . I want to take this further i was given a number and was told eco solutions are the 1 who sh7d be sorting it but its like cnocking my head against a brick wall ive rang that much its got embarrasing .and the fitters are fobbing me of i need to know who i can get in touch with to take this further its a nightmare HELP
