To get the £100 cash offer you need to open a 1st Account, switch your everyday banking to us using the Current Account Switch Service and pay in at least £1,000 within three months of opening the account.

This offer is limited to one payment per customer or joint account, and you'll get the money within 28 days of all criteria being met. Sorry, we can only offer this to people who haven't previously held an account with us, and we reserve the right to refuse your application and extend or withdraw this offer at any time. Credit is subject to status.

My RBS account just paid out the £150 from a while ago, so decided to switch to First Direct as they're offering £100.

The better part of this deal is once you've paid in the £1000, the £100 is paid within 28 days - you don't have to wait several months for it to pay out. Apparently they've pretty good customer service as well.

Can you switch from hsbc to first direct ?? And get cashback ?
One of the best banks I've been with. Call centre is usually quick to answer and based in Leeds and customer service is always great to deal with. I originally opened an account when they were offering the welcome gifts but after that failed, FD just transferred me the value of the gift straight into my bank without quibble

Huh... I might actually end up staying with these folks :P

It looks like you can!

How do I get the switching incentive?
Provided you've never had any sort of account with First Direct before (including mortgages and savings), you just open the account and start your switch. You've three months to complete it and pay in £1,000.

You can get the bonus if you're switching from HSBC or M&S Bank, even though they're both part of the HSBC Group along with First Direct.

If you have any problems with the switching process, you can contact First Direct's account opening team on 03456 00 24 24.
Already had an account with them unfortunately. All the good switching offers seem to have dried up
Not the bank it was, and I say that as a proud customer of FD for many of the 28 years I was with them. They lacked investment, so other players caught up, overtook and left them stagnating where they were. I finally gave up on them last year, stuck trading on a reputation of the past. I joined them as a challenger bank, I left them when they were a sluggish bank.

The staff were always great though. It was a shame that there were much less of them around to answer the calls.
Best bank I have used. Been with them since the start. No complaints what so ever.
I registered online and received an email on Friday to send them some docs electronically which i have done. How long does it normally take to get the account up and running?
I've had an account with most high street banks, and First Direct are definitely the best for customer service IMO

So they make you jump through hoops after the initial application? I’m not a big fan of banks that don’t tell you what you need upfront.

What's their app like?
the app is "okay". certainly not on starling / monzo levels.

However, name me another bank where a commoner like me can speak to someone from a bank (in england) within 2 minutes.

Trust me, a good app is one thing, but if the worst ever happens and you get bank fraud, having someone good to speak to sharpish is really useful.

Couldnt reccomend them highly enough.

For those that care, they are backed by HSBC. But its tottaly not the HSBC big bank experience.
I just joined them and got the £100 today. Things to note. They send you tonnes of paper work. Like loads. You can’t set up the app yourself you HAVE to call them and set up online the account. It’s annoying. The app doesn’t look great but functional. The annoying thing I found is transferring money with some banks is almost instant. Barclays, TSB, NatWest but First took a good few hours. I’ll prob stay for the few months then get the £100 to leave. My impressions over the last few weeks don’t warrant me staying with crazy amounts of post, sluggish money transfers and no monthly incentive. Will say thanks for the £200 when I go though

Dont forget to also take their regular saver. Transfer out from your main account an amount each month for 2.75% after a year.

Just curious, but do you have to have a valid reason to get the £100 for leaving? It seems almost like they're asking people to leave, like who doesn't want another £100?

Not really. I just sent them a scan of my drivers license via their secure link. It didn't take long. I'm hoping to move all my banking to them . But far it's been 8 working days.
Santander 123 account are reducing their rates and cashback again in a few months so am tempted to leave. I would jump to FD but had an account with them previously.
this is very tempting. hubby has a first direct account and they seem to be fine. i have a natwest premier reward account which i am tempted to transfer for the £100 bonus. i get decent cashback from natwest as i also get cash back with my natwest credit card so it probably won't be worth my while at the moment.

great offer though so heat added.

hubby has his current account with first direct and i have a current account with natwest. i have access to his first direct bank account and often log in to transfer money to my own bank account! and the payments have always come over pretty much immediately. i haven't noticed any delay. i make at least 2 payments every week and i have been doing this for many years and i haven't noticed the problem that you seem to be having.
Nightmare bank to switch to. They made me send so many docs in the past and it took almost 6 weeks to switch over. In the end I gave up and told them to shove it. Never had such a bad experience with a bank and I have multiple accounts with banks. Going to stick to starling.

Oh No. Where’s the info for this? I will switch if they are going to do this. Santander 123 used to be a brilliant account to have.
Would you be exempt from this if you had a mortgage account with FD or does this just apply to Current Accounts?

That's what I feared. I have started the process of switching any way as the Savings account alone is far more lucrative than the £2 a month reward I get from Halifax which has dropped from £10 per month in the last two years!
Can I get this if I was a fd customer 18 years ago.

I don't know for sure, but I think they just want some details on you. They will do a credit check apparently, as they did one for me.

There is there any minimum direct debits needed to switch over?

great customer service, 2.75% regular saver, etc.

I got an incentive for joining, ended up being a customer for several years
Having been with TSB for most of my life, first impressions of FD is that they answer the phones quickly, and seem very helpful and competent. I have found the app basic in comparison and the security set up has been a pain, but I got there in the end. £100 transferred in after a month with no issues or chasing on my part. Whether I’ll be with them long term remains to be seen, but a fairly good start. £250 interest free overdraft was a nice bonus too.
Oh - I would also say that I’ve set up a regular saver account as well, but they take money by direct debit, and you have to ring up t9 alter the amount if say you had a bit more spare cash to pain in. Not a major issue (and dealt very quickly when I called them), but lacks the flexibility of the TSB ‘easy saver’ account I had.

I've just had my intial forms through, it asked me to phone them to setup my "phone banking" once that's setup you can go straight ahead and setup your online banking. The next day my card arrived.

Must admit that people were right about their customer service, felt like something I haven't experienced in like 15 years, fantastic.

So my account is setup and only while you're on the phone do they start the switch process, which they confirm you want to do and ask again for your details of the bank account you're closing. They walk you through it anyway, so all good!
