Found 18th Jan 2016
If you collect 5 vouchers from the sun ( one printed every day until the 27th jan), you can get an mot for 10.00 at Halfords Autocentre BUT just a word of warning, i phoned up to book mine earlier, and they told me you can't book it for a Saturday- i can't see this in the terms and conditions anywhere?

be warned, these guys are like Kwik Fit, they will spend their time trying to find work
Good deal.
Be careful they don't drag you in,just to then tell you that you need to spend...

It's an old trick!!

Simular to the "free winter checks"

Heat
yeah, you will fail and end up having £300 of work to pass the mot, even though its a new car oO
Just Dont do it.
Beaten to it by the top comment x
I have used Halfords auto centre at Maskew Avenue Peterborough many times with a half price voucher and only ever had 1 fail and it was a genuine enough reason.
stay away ! I've heard some horror stories about some halfords auto centers.
look for the formula one mot thread, £19.50 with the code, and mine sailed through..... plus you dont have to buy that sun

and if they can't find any they'll just say it need something anyway, or manufacture a fault.
Picky isn't the word. They failed my car which then passed elsewhere.
Is there a voucher in todays paper? Thanks
They charge for headlight adjustment and I guarantee they say you need it doing
Same as HIQ charge you for work they haven't done or didn't need doing. Should be a law on these companies they get away with ripping off the public, let's face it halfrauds to fit a car battery is from £10 LOL
cozzie

no there is a token today, the voucher to stick them all on was in Saturday's paper, not sure if they'll reprint it.
I've used them a few times for my mot, and my car has always passed, a few advisories that i don't get elsewhere but for a tenner i can cope with that!
They failed my car supposedly on its headlight setting, so they altered the beam so it satisfied them in order to pass. That evening I was blinding the oncoming cars with my dipped beam. Incompetent doesn't even begin to describe them.

People who know feck all about their car are meat and drink to these cheap MOT deals. For me they are brilliant. BECAUSE I know how to maintain and look after a car, so get a really cheap MOT test that I know I will pass. Been using cheap MOT deals for very many years now. Only once had a fail on rust. I challenged the MOT tester, and he had to back down and pass the car. This post is not much help to the great uneducated, but just thought I would chip in my tuppence worth.

always used mansfield halfords autocentre for my mots and never had so much as an advisory
Sun readers discussing a deal when they could be playing with their plasticine and lego. Love it.

In fairness to Kwik-fit, I've had two MOTs, two years running - which I paid £20-25 for the MOT (with quidco cashback and vouchers), the 2010 Car passed each time without issues. The car is a 4x4 crossover, if they wanted to find fault they probably could. Its worth checking the obvious, but thats all I do.

What a combination. A marketing ploy to prey on the poor souls who buy the Sun.....they really know their target market (if they are dumb enough to buy the paper and whats printed in it then there's a good chance they will believe what Halfords say when the car fails). Synical to say the least.
We went here and ended up paying over £400 :-(
Take it to your local council M.o.T. station .
They do not do repairs so if it fails it has a defect,

Is the correct answer!
Its usually where the council send taxis/private hire cars to for the council test. If you dont kow where your local one is ask a local cabbie.
LOVE Halfords! Seriously, we get so much work from customers who get a ridiculously expensive quote from their inept service centres, then come to us and get the job done right for a sensible price.
A good deal if you have a 3 or 4 year old car which is likely to pass, stay away if it's likely to have any problems they can fail it on. At the end of the day Halfords have to pay the DOT the set MOT fee so they have to fail a reasonable number of cars to make up the money they lose on just charging £10 per MOT.

Never had a problem with Halfords but Kwik Fit are real con-artists. At 18yo I took a 3 year old car into and ended up having 2 new shock absorbers fitted because they faked leaks in them. Youthful naivety!

The main problem with this deal is that you have to buy The Sun. So you have to touch the Devil in order to get a cheap MOT. I'd rather not.

On another note, if anyone lives near Bolton, pop into the ATS at West Houghton. Dreadful service and workmanship but Karl Pilkington's twin manages the place.

I have got my coupons ready just not sure whether to send book it now ready comments below. They have a garage right next to my work so would be really handy. Do you need to pay £10 now??
Cheap MOT = Huge Bill @ Halfrauds ... Avoid like the plague
Well having saved the 5 vouchers - the problem has been taken out of my hands - no answer on any of the tries - and after 1st try - 2 mins - I gave up. The quicker route out was a message " there is no-one available to take your call" other times. So well done Halfords - I am throwing the vouchers away!
Both myself and my dad tried for several days to contact the booking line but same result as dee27dee previously quoted. Diverted to operator and then requested an extension number.. They must have got the amount of takers that they needed ? Great offer..fiddle.
I work at halfords .i can only speak for my own garage .but everyone does mot to the same standard if it fails it fails the type of people who say because the mot is cheap and halfords look for something to fail it on are the type that never visit halfords and moan when it fails
