1000 nectar points (base value worth £5) for a £1.15 spend with Virgin Trains East Coast via Nectar

Found 9th Nov
This offer comes up from time to time but on the Nectar app is showing 1000 bonus points (base value £5) with Virgin Trains East coast.

So if you are looking at a cheap way to earn some Nectar points steps as follows:

  • Go to nectar.com/off…172 to see if you have the offer. If you have it, then follow the link to visit the Virgin East Coast website (need to make sure your Nectar card is linked)

  • Proceed to book a single child fare of £1+ for dates between today and 5th Jan. Needs to be £1 as spend under this amount may cause the bonus points not to track. Please note it has to be a Virgin east coast train (not Scotsrail),

  • As an example Edinburgh to Haymarket child single is £1.15 on Monday 13th November 10.51, 12.52, 14.28 etc. Note needs to have the Virgin trains symbol next to it and needs to be an East Coast train, only certain times have it e.g. 14:28 on Monday 13 (see below)

  • Proceed to book and choose free collection or free mobile tickets

FAQ's adapted from a previous thread (thanks LankyChris)

Which train should I book?
The cheapest ticket I could find was £1.15 for a child from Edinburgh to Haymarket at selected times making a profit of £3.85 worth of nectar points. his needs to have the Virgin symbol by it. The virgin trains are at selected times e.g.10.51, 12.52, 14:28

Can I book any train between these stations?
No most are operated by ScotRail, make sure it is definitely an East Coast train service you're booking so that you qualify, not a different train operator. Look out for the Virgin train symbol

There may be cheaper available journeys between different stations but make sure spend is at least £1 as may cause issues with bonus points

Which website do I book at?
If you are using the suggested journey above use virgintrainseastcoast.com (http://www.virgintrainseastcoast.com)

How to avoid postage costs
Select 'Ticket on Departure at the station' and select your local station to collect tickets from to avoid paying postage. Alternatively choose mobile tickets.

Do I need to collect the tickets?
Has been reported that you dont need to actually collect your tickets but upto you

Does anyone actually get the points from these offers?
Yes has worked for members in the past

When will I get the points
T&Cs below state within 28 days of ending the promo which I make as 14th December

What happens if I don't get the points by then?
Contact nectar customer support who are usually good about adding missing points: nectar.com/con…act (https://www.nectar.com/contact)

Is there a minimum spend?
Not in the T&Cs but it might be £1 to ensure you get at least 1 nectar point for your purchase so that nectar can track the offer.

I pity the genuine rail travellers who can't get a seat as it's full of kids tickets with no travellers.

Is this repeatable? Wouldn’t mind some nectar points for petrol

Thanks Chi-Chi. HUKD would probably shut down if you stopped posting! Heat added.

Great deal but I did this once before and I had to chase the bonus points up via online chat as I never received them.

Terms state that points will be awarded on first transaction not multiple bookings

Done

I checked my Nectar Account (for this deal) to find an additional 1000 Bonus Points waiting for me to load it on my Card - from GWR. #Winning

You could fill up the train I guess

Only showing 500 point offer for me

Birmingham to Coventry is not part of virgin east coast.

“The cheapest ticket I could find was £1.25 for a child from Birmingham New Street to Coventry making a profit of £3.75 worth of nectar points.

Doesn't show on my nectar account Thanks for posting anyways.

You MUST book travel on a VTEC (Virgin Trains East Coast) service.

I don’t believe any VTEC services use Birmingham or Coventry.

The great majority of Edinburgh to Haymarket services are Scotrail, but there are some VTEC e.g. 1028 1428 1633 M-F from Edinburgh.

You may well have to chase nectar for the points, even if you’ve spent £50 on the ticket, and the base points tracked.

Apologies the example post was incorrect earlier but have now sorted thanks to above input on here. If you booked when first posted cancel that one and try again with the Edinburgh to Haymarket at specific times (with the Virgin symbol).

Done this many times in the past - always with the Edinburgh to Haymarket child ticket. It never tracked normally and I had to contact Nectar via their CS chat but that was always super efficient and they added the points within minutes.

Hopefully that actual train will be delayed and I will be able to claim my £1.15 back?

I'm also getting "We're sorry this product is not valid for loyalty rewards." when I try to book. Is this correct?

Are there a lot of people getting less than minimum wage? I can't understand how this is worth anyone's time.

If you saw £3.85 on the floor would you pick it up? Literally took 1 minute

I need a little bit more information, is there a £2 coin in that £3.85?
Edited by: "ITMA" 10th Nov

For me it said congratulations you earned yourself 2 points, Edinburgh to Haymarket anyone else get this?

If it's showing £3.85 edit the journey and change adult ticket from 1 to 0.
It's automatically adding an adult with the child ticket
