1000 nectar points (base value worth £5) for a £1.20 spend with Virgin Trains West Coast via Nectar

This offer comes up from time to time but on the Nectar app is showing 1000 bonus points (base value £5) with Virgin Trains West coast.

So if you are looking at a cheap way to earn some Nectar points steps as follows:

  • Go to nectar.com/off…227 to see if you have the offer. If you have it, then follow the link to visit the Virgin West Coast website (need to make sure your Nectar card is linked)

  • Proceed to book a single child fare of £1+ for dates between today and 20th March. Needs to be £1 as spend under this amount may cause the bonus points not to track. Please note it has to be a Virgin West coast train

  • As an example Birmingham New Street (BHM) to Birmingham International (BHI) child single is £1.25 on most days or Edinburgh to Waverley for £1.20. Note needs to have the Virgin trains symbol next to it and needs to be an West Coast train.

  • Proceed to book and choose free collection or free mobile tickets

FAQ's adapted from a previous thread (thanks @LankyChris@Chanchi32 & @tungle106 )

Which train should I book?

The cheapest ticket I could find was £1.25 for a child from Birmingham New Street (BHM) to Birmingham International (BHI) at selected times or even cheaper £1.20 for a child from Edinburgh to Waverley (example in pic above) making a profit of £3.80 worth of nectar points. his needs to have the Virgin symbol by it.

Can I book any train between these stations?
Make sure it is definitely a West Coast train service you're booking so that you qualify, not a different train operator. Look out for the Virgin train symbol

There may be cheaper available journeys between different stations but make sure spend is at least £1 as may cause issues with bonus points

Which website do I book at?
If you are using the suggested journey above use virgintrains.co.uk/

How to avoid postage costs
Select 'Ticket on Departure at the station' and select your local station to collect tickets from to avoid paying postage. Alternatively choose mobile tickets.

Do I need to collect the tickets?
Has been reported that you dont need to actually collect your tickets but up to you

Does anyone actually get the points from these offers?
Yes has worked for members in the past

When will I get the points
T&Cs below state within 28 days of ending the promo which I make as 17th April

What happens if I don't get the points by then?
Contact nectar customer support who are usually good about adding missing points: nectar.com/con…ct)

Is there a minimum spend?
Not in the T&Cs but it might be £1 to ensure you get at least 1 nectar point for your purchase so that nectar can track the offer.

There is a different bonus offer showing up on my account too now for 500 points - worth checking if that works for some nectar.com/off…718

Thanks, I thought that was on the East Coast - is that not right?

Did you try chatting to their CS - usually they are pretty helpful. I had an issue with a BP bonus point deal and CS live chat sorted it out promptly.

I thought it was on both, obviously not the same train but you can choose West Coast trains, happy to be corrected if wrong

Very rarely get the points, they used to add very quickly if contacted but now make it such a faff it’s not worth it. Don’t know how they get away with it!

They wouldn't honour this last time without telling them to JFDI and a lot of bother at that. I wouldn't waste your time unless you already use the routes anyway for work etc.
Also worth pointing out a quirk with the Nectar points for Virgin Trains, as highlighted by the excellent Head For Points website:

If you take Nectar points, you get points for the entire value of the ticket you book, even if some of the travel is on another train operator

If you take Virgin Flying Club miles, you earn NOTHING if any part of your journey is on another train operator
Yep I never received mine for the last deal and I contacted the nectar cs and they still didn’t add the points

You need to bang them on Facebook or Twitter. Don't bother with the Indian chat drones.

Chat drones - lol
Thank I thought I would give this a go. I got this message after booking as per the above instructions. Definately Virgin Trains and I went through the link from Nectar

Loyalty rewards aren't available on this transaction

Mine shows as 500 points
As others have said don't rely on these bonuses actually being awarded and chasing them is a real HASSLE!

Have to agree with the above moans that the award of these VTWC bonus points - which is meant to be automatic within 28 days of offer closing - is very unreliable indeed. The last two offers in Nov for 1000 and 500 I had to chase and they "opened cases" in early Jan for my claims but they then did nothing and only awarded them yesterday after I kicked up a stink and even then it took an age with their on line chat line.

Very disappointed indeed!
I paid extra for my virgin ticket for this deal in August 2017, never received bonus points and fobbed off with lies when spoke to Nectar customer support 😣
It's definitely a mission to get the points owed! I started to screenshot the offers and keep a note of which ones I was missing as I use the trains all the time! The talk to live chat and they usually add them! Depends if you can be bothered to do that
Never get the Nectar points ever from Virgin, I'm probably owed about 5000 points that I'll never get.
Nectar needs reporting to trading standards over mis-advertising .If the promote extra points for buying a product and then not giving you them when you"ve met the criteria that is misleading advertising reagrdless of the value and Internet advertising is no different now to advertising in a paper , they have to keep their end of the offer ...

Lost track of number of BP bonus points etc that havent been added to my account , next time i"ll threaten with reporting them to the ASA ...
Never get these points but always get them added on through chat when I give them screenshots. Best thing to do is set a reminder for the end date and then chase them up.

That's what I do from time to time when the points don't show up - truth be told, with a little bit of time spent on the chat they always add the points - and this chat happens when I am anyways doing other stuff on the laptop so not that it takes too much of my time anyways.
Only 500 point for me

This.
I bought one previously and got stiffed.
Caution to those contemplating booking a ticket.
Never worked for me last time so won’t be bothering this time.
I always use these offers and have never had a problem with Nectar points. I have collected a total of about 5000 points in the past year from Virgin journeys I have never taken. I always book child singles from Haymarket to Edinburgh (East Coast) and Birmingham International to Birmingham New Street (West Coast).

The points to note are:
(1) Book using the correct website
(2) Book only Virgin trains (with the Virgin logo) on the appropriate route
(3) Always reserve a seat
this never shows on my account
Don't use trains. Well, the Tube now and then and that's it.
Good ol' Nectar though.

Reminds me, they (Nectar) owe me around 3,000 pts that have not been added. Remember to check your tallies, I have regularly found pts not being added. I think they hope you'll forget. I never do as I do screen shots of any where it states pts will be added within so many days.
Available for me but for for East Coast trains:)
