If you have access to an old-skool mini, do the safari park in that.

It's WAY more of a rush when you feel like your car doesn't actually offer much protection. Mine had a slightly growly exhaust which seemed to interest the lions. They didn't pay any attention to the other big, modern, quiet, cars. Got some great photos as a result!
Anyone who's been to knowsley safari park know if I have to do the 5 mile safari drive or can I just go around the walking section of the park?

You can just go into the walking section no problem

you don't have to do the safari part but your really missing out if you don't, their is a mini bus that takes you round if you want to do it that way, great day out I recommend it
You can pay £5 and go on their mini bus if you don't want to take your own car.
The fairground rides for the little kids will probably keep them entertained for the afternoon if you just walk in. You will also get to see the elephants and giraffes, you don't have to do the drive to see them.
only problem I have with safari parks is the driver (me) doesn't get to see much as I'm constantly changing gear/looking out for cars around not looking at the road/animals that want to damage my car and most importantly big animal turds in the road
Would your car get damaged doing this safari? Not too keen on scratches on my bonnet!
thanks op
do you have to book the day before you go or can you book the same day thanks
it says u don't have to book online, just turn up on the day and pay at the gates.

reg. getting ur car scratched, as long as u don't go into the monkey/baboons land ( there is clear indications on the road about this) you are safe - no scratches/damage to the car. but saying that, it's fun what them baboons do when you drive inside their enclosures - they mainly aim for your wiper blades - both front and rear, worth a watch !!!

they have car friendly routes for the monkey and lion enclosures.
Have Knowsley Safari Park finally realised people only go when it's £10 per car and not per person?

Yes! i came home with lots of scratches, a window wiper hanging off and a missing indicator last year which a monkey pinched!

Wanna do it in a reliant robin then!
I did this last year. I saw some very ferocious looking animals, some of them looked truly wild, like they would tear you apart as soon as look at you, like they were untouched by civilisation.
Not only that, both windscreen wipers were torn off, the back car window got done in and there was faeces streaked down our car bonnet.

Yes, the evening at the bar at the Warrington Travelodge was an experience not to be repeated.
It's definitely not a place where you could spend the full day unless you go when it's really busy and you spend ages queueing to drive around but a few hours can be spent there and for £10 it's a bargain.
If you have a decent car DO NOT drive through the monkey enclosure because they are lethal at removing anything that isn't welded on.

Thanks for the info though!

You can go directly to the walking section (as far I remember. Went their last year same £10 deal)

Doesn't run midweek
If you take your car through the safari Park but avoid the baboon section your car will be fine, you can park outside the baboon enclosure and enjoy other people's cars being dismantled, which is a great way to spend an afternoon.
Would this be OK in a cabriolet?

Most of the drive you can do, yes. You can't go into certain areas with a rag-top (lions and monkeys), but there are D-tour routes for those who can't/won't go in certain enclosures. From the d-tour viewing area you can watch the other folk have their wipers ripped off

no that's no fun you want to try it in a motor bike and side car that's lots more fun.

Going today and hiding my bananas. heat added.
Davidbrent, to funny
Fantastic the kids will love it........ i shall take a spanner and remove my wiper arms before i go in i think
just got back and the monkeys where very well behaved. not any car repairing monkeys today. no damage to any cars today while i was there. not like last i went and watched them destory a part or two of every car.
Back up to Scotland today after a weekend in London and an over night at the Travelodge in Warrington Lowton..followed by a trip to the Safari Park..

The baboons were by far the most interesting part of the day - they are little bar stewards indeed!

I managed to get out with only a minor issue when a larger male decided to pull out one of the lower rubber surrounds of my Hyundai i20 windscreen, look at it disapprovingly, then chew it a couple of times before casually tossing it into the road...

Luckily, I asked one of the guys at the exit if he could retrieve it for me and that was a success!

Back at the car park outside of the safari drive, I started to re-assemble my car, the car next to me was a black Peugeot which had a snapped off rear window wiper (the second one I saw that day!) and both of his windscreen washers had been chewed up by the little beggars!

My car was also a slimey looking mess of hand/foot prints and mud etc.

I'm surprised that my back wiper survived too, as god knows how many baboons decided it was the perfect place to sit!
