Looks a good price for a 10.1 MP camera - anyone know the specs of this ?

You can combine this with the £9.99 SD card from the other thread

Who makes the lens, Its probably a cheap blob of plastic.

Also not a good idea to Cram so many pixels onto a small sensor as you tend to lose sensitivity and dynamic range.

Unless you are going to print photos much bigger than A4 or serious crop images, then there is really no benefit to having any more than 5 or 6 megapixels, and like Rufus says, the lens is SO much more important then the number of megapixels. I'd be willing to bet that my 1 year old 5 megapixel Canon (Which cost less than this) would take considerably better photos.

It's always better to go for a decent brand and try and look at any reviews on the net before buying a digital camera.

Similar to those 'Premier' cameras you can get IMO
Look nice enough, but ... hmmm ... not really for me.

Yes, Ive got 5mp Fuji S5600 which has a nice lens and has a good quality sensor.
You can pick one up for less than this camera and I guarentee it will take far superior pictures.

very true. i have a sony 5.1mp p100 and it takes a fantastic pic, i got it 2 years ago, ex display for £70 which was an absolute bargain. i bet there is no way this camera could take anywhere near as good a picture.

Much as others have said.

For a £130 you can get a good Nikon, Canon etc, with probably a far better lens. No point in having a 10mp camera with a poor lens.

Also, if I was going to buy a camera from a shop I would buy it at Jessops rather than Aldi.

If it goes wrong who in Aldi is going to help you, and how will Aldi exchange it if they no longer stock them. Jessops will at least have someone knowledgable and may be able to exchange it if it goes wrong.

Have to say though that the Aldi camera looks very much like some of the Panasonic cameras, see here:

Aldi for comparison

Of course it may be that Panasonic just badge someone elses cameras as well.

At the risk of posting this twice (I'm new to Hotdeals):

I bought the 8.1MP version of this last year. It has turned out to be an excellent camera. This one looks absolutely identical, except that it's got 10.1MP written on the front! It is packed with features and extras, and will do simply as a fully automatic "just press the button" machine to one which more advanced photographers can use. aperture/shutter priority, video, lots of "scene" settings, changed ISO settings, white balance set, nice big LCD screen that you can adjust the brightness of, a 1 1/8" CCD, etc. etc. It takes good video, too, 15 or 30 FPS. Ignore "big name" bias - my friend has just bought a 7MP-ish Sony, and my Traveler beats it in every way. Ignore, too "the lens is a blob of plastic" ill-informed guesswork. It takes good pictures, can do TIFF. You get a car charger, cloth case, a spare battery and charging pod, docking stand, USB cable, software with it too.

The 8.1MP one I've got is discussed at www.avforums.com, in the thread "Traveler DC-8600 - any good as only £179.99 for 8.1meg pixels ???" The 8.1MP is a badged Vivitar DC-8600, which is reviewed on the web as well in various places, and has a viewable manual at: traveler-service.com/fro…101.

The price includes 3 years warranty, as well!

I'd say "strong buy - go for it!".

vivitar.com/uk/…pdf
amazon.co.uk/Viv…1-1 seems to be the same camera.

It's a Premier DS-A650 as far as I can see, enough said. Mind you, it also looks exactly like the Hitachi DS -A651 although the moulding is a different colour. As said in the above post it also seems to a Vivitar as well. Any more?!!!

It seems to be a Minox DC1022 as well:

engadget.com/200…22/

It does seem to be an upgrade to the one I've got - it's got a bigger CCD, and may be thinner.

Very likely a good buy.

I've told my dad to get one!
