Apple iMac - 21.5" - 8 GB RAM - 1 TB HDD - 2.7 GHz Core i5 Processor

This is available in store in Staples but is not on their website.

My pc was getting very slow and I thought it was time to buy a new one.

I went into Staples in Telford to buy some stationary for the kids and was looking at PCs when I saw an iMac for £729. I have always been a PC user (having built my first one in 1993) but do have an ipad and iphone.

This is £1049 elsewhere and for this price, I thought it was time to try the apple Mac,

They did not have any in stock but were able to order one from another store.

This is my first post so please be gentle.

(This was also done on my pc prior to unboxing the mac, so this may be the last thing I do on my pc)

(Instore deal only, "get deal" just for specs / product info)

NEWSFLASH 1:

Some hotukdeals users have managed to get this for only £629 (by purchasing the display model at Staples)

See comments 97 193 and 202

NEWSFLASH 2:

Wkd has managed to get John Lewis price match (see comment 243)

You will need to tell them that it's a me086b/a and staples have a product code 423810

Wkd had commented:

Not sure how other than the fact it's sat in my hall way in its box. I simply called my local JL, supplied info & numbers to Staples store... JL called me back an hour'ish later & honoured it. I'm not in the business of lying for no reason. Merely passing on my happiness.

+1! Still got both but windows is neglected now by me. Great price!

Could you please post six digit product code. Thanks

Hot, wonder if they priced wrong and think its the 21.5inch 1.4GHz.

I miss my old Macbook Pro since the Nvidia graphics fault trashed the logic board. Think I may get it fixed as my PC laptop just isn't as good!

that would still be a deal

wtf mcafee for 60 you must be sniffing crack to pay for AV. specially if you plan to use that for a mac. I would return it and spend the 60 on summit worth while...

Once a Mac, you can't go back

You people do realise a Mac is basically a PC inside.
When people say "Better than a PC" I don't really know what comparison they're drawing. I think what they mean is "Mac OS is better than Windows". Which I would probably agree with, save for the lack of industry support (eg games).

£200 cheaper than even the edu link, that is impressive.

Lol to pay for a virus checker when so many banks give you it for free is crazy! The free one I used to get is also a really good virus checker and almost certainly better than maccaffe. But £60!!! I will also sell you a virus checker. I will legally download it for free, then put it on a cd for you and post it to you for £50.

The mac is hot deal though.

Avast, AVG etc are all free, lightweight and updated daily.

I'm a PC user but I'll admit that's a good deal. Hot from me!

However, for all the 'once you go Mac you can't go back' types, I was a PC user, bought a mac, had it for a few years, sold it and bought a PC again.

There is nothing wrong with paying for anti-virus software on Windows, as the paid for ones are the best (Bitdefender, Kaspersky, F-Secure). But £60 is definitely expensive for any anti-virus program, and you don't really need it on a Mac.

Funny you should say that but I reckon half my (particularly the elder users...) customers want to go back to Windows after being advised to buy a mac...

Think this has the i5-4570R processor btw, pretty powerful.

is this the new ultra thin 5k iMac?

hold off, Windows 10 is round the corner

No owing to the 5k imac only coming in 27".

thanks for the advice about antivirus.

I wasn't 100% sure if I really needed it for the mac but I do have important files on the computer which I need to protect

I also have children who may look at websites which could potentially have viruses

£60 was for antivirus and for office 365 as a special promotional package.

Does the hotukdeals community advise that antivirus is really not necessary on the mac?

P.S. now using the mac to update the hotukdeals page

It is much smoother than my old pc

I have yet to meet anyone who uses anti virus on a Mac and no Mac users I know or have heard of have had virus problems on Mac.

Great deal.

For people who are mentioning Mac Vs PC essentially yes it boils down to a large amount of the OS being better but at the end of the day you don't really get the OS without the hardware so Mac wins.

It's crap. I run OSX, Windows 8.1 and Windows 10 latest fast build, on separate machines. 10 is a mess at the moment.

'So Mac wins'. Completely subjective. I'd take my PC over any, I literally mean ANY, Mac you could offer me. Been there, tried that, didn't like it.

You cant get viruses on mac. The person who took your 60 quid should get done for fraud

Windows, Mac, Linux. Any type of fanboy is simply daft. Brand loyalty folks, it's the gift of the stupid. Buy what's best for you and enjoy.

I use windows on my gaming machine, linux on my old laptop and I'm an ex-Apple engineer from years ago when people were expected to whip the soldering iron out when a Mac broke, rather than simply swap parts..

There's a repair extension program for that issue. I had a 2011 17" that exhibited it. After three logic board replacement failures they gave me an entirely new laptop that was of higher spec than my original. apple.com/uk/…es/ - See if you qualify, it's worth it.
