That's a great deal.
Started our contract with Virgin media today.. been getting 100mbs in the room where router is occasionally ..but very often it’s dipping to sub 20mbps and unusable in one room. Anybody else have similar issues or ideas as to why?

Change the channel. Go through them all and do a speed check on each. Also activate 2.4ghz and 5ghz.

Same, signal is great when you're close, great speeds.
Had to buy some range extenders from Argos to reach the other end of our flat to work from home. Thankfully they work great but disappointed in the signal from the router as we don't exactly have a large flat!

We had a similar issue with Sky also, who towards the very end of our contract, provided a booster (after a lot of back and forth) and router, which fortunately provided a consistent speed throughout all rooms in the house.

I have 2 family members on VM who are getting 100mbs consistent all round the house so made the switch also but am starting to regret it now.. debating giving Sky a call but unsure whether you can return within x time of cancelling.

Which range extender did you purchase? Also does it extend the exact speed you get in the room of the router?

Unsure how to change the channel. But 2.4 and 5ghz were active when I went in to 192.168.01

VM hub 3.0 (no longer called super for trade descriptions reasons) Well known for being carp - mine seems OK (110Mbps in front of house, 80+ at back (small terrace, but thick walls).

Just to add I got the £10 deal (fingers crossed) & I'm not sure it is worth any more. Happy with mobiles & not sure if this has TV (again happy with Freesat too).

Glad to hear yours is well ours is a small semi detached and definitely (also unfortunately in this case) thick walled which I think is the main reason why the signal does not reach.

Your first point likely explains why the mbps fluctuates so regularly though.

Forget trial and error with channel switching just download metageek.com/pro…er/

Their router is well known to provide a poor signal

I'd recommend a whole home mesh system which you plug into their router instead of range Extenders. Totally transformed my WiFi and I now have full speeds everywhere in the house and also at the bottom of our garden.

Same here. The super hub range is quite limited and leaves a number of dead spots. I bought a deco mesh system for 99 quid which has solved all the issues. However, it still pains me that I had to pay this on top of the Virgin cost just to get it working. On other posts customers have managed to get Virgin to provide extenders etc. But whenever I called them they fobbed me off saying there were too many devices connected and I needed to upgrade my subscription.

...£50 off code from the other deal also works for this one
Customer service 🤢🤮.
I will recommend take a company with best customer service like Plusnet or cheapest with the worse customer service like talk talk . Funny but this year I took talk talk already disappointed 2times customer service . Better even don't call them and block on the bank so will get in touch it self
A couple years back I had virgin super fast. All was good for first few weeks but then speeds dropped to about let's say 5-25mb.
Customer support was crap, I had 3 different routers, and no compensation.
If you do take this deal just keep an eye on your speeds every week with speedtest.net/
Sorry but voted Cold as the Customer Support doesn't exist

I suppose it's always going to vary by region, but I've been with Virgin (and prior to that Telewest) for over 15 years and have always received my rated speed or slightly better.

I wouldn't stay with them otherwise as they're certainly not cheap, but the service has always been excellent for me. I'm pretty sure I've never actually asked them for a speed increase either. I believe my original service was a 1Mb/s line back in the Telewest days, and periodic automatic speed upgrades since then have brought it up to where it is now. They've upgraded my router (well, the original was just a cable modem) three times over the years too and never charged. The current Hub is pretty crap, but that's largely due to the faulty Intel chip at its heart and it's not only Virgin that got burned with that fiasco.

No ISP routers are much cop dude they provide it for free so its unlikely to have discrete signal antennas or wifi booster circuits just cheap as chips - you get what you don't pay for!

Just did a speed test there:
Connected directly to router: 108Mbps
Range extender 2ghz: 69Mbps
Range extender 5ghz: 40.7Mbps

Upload speeds remain pretty consistent at around 10Mbps

Went with this extender: argos.co.uk/pro…939 - to be honest I didn't do much research as it was a pretty rushed purchase as everywhere closed down due to covid, but I can't complain, has allowed me to work from home.
My current BT contract will be expiring on 2 July, shall I order Vodafone now for installation after 2 July?
