Philmitchell...... I had a 1meter that i thought would get me from one room to another but didnt reach that far.....

so had to shop around for a bigger lenght

I bought 10m the other day from ebay and it is fine

So far I've bought cables of various lengths from 30cm to 30m... and I've crimped my own.

I have nothing to say with regards to this particular item or price, I just thought people should know that cables 10m in length exist. I've seen them.

Prolly that horrible CCA stuff... (maybe even Magnesium Aluminium)!

These do not tend to last that long compared to the full copper types... as when constantly being moved or being negotiated around lots of sharp corners this will eventually cause a break in the copper coating.

This can cause your network to slow down dramatically and even to the point of packet loss... which really isn't anybody's ideal solution when using it on a consoles or transferring/streaming media over the internal network.

Personally I have had some really bad experiences with cheap flush booted cables like these... they generally aren't either crimped all the way to the end or you find one of the twisted pairs aren't even working meaning you are only reaching half duplex speeds.

My top tip when buying cheap network cables is to lightly wiggle the plug inside the RJ45 socket (either the device or router) and make sure it doesn't randomly drop the connection. This is a easy identifier of bad workmanship and cheap materials.

There is other way to find out if these cables are of poor quality but will definitely void your warranty this would require you to actually cut off the end of one of your cables - peel back the PVC coating on one of the twisted pairs and lightly scratch away at the wire underneath with a sharp pen knife. After a few stokes the copper cable will go a light silver colour which will confirm this is Aluminium (CCA).

Obviously I would never suggest you try the above test unless you was just curious and had no intention of returning the cable for a refund.

Just remember you get what you pay for on cabling...

Hope this helps!

They seem to be claiming otherwise:

"This Keela Network CAT5E RJ45 Ethernet LAN Cable Patch Lead is made using premium materials for longevity and high performance."

Looks like an empty statement to me. They avoid saying what it actually is.
