10TB Free Online Storage @ Weiyun via Tencent

Found 30th May 2014
Heard about this a few months back, and remembered it last night while searching for best price Cloud storage. Signed up easily enough, and now have 10TB of online storage for free.

A few hoops to jump through to get there, but lets be honest, if you can't do them for 10TB for free then you clearly own a lot more hard drives than myself.

1 - Visit the deal link and sign up for QQ account (Site in English)

2 - Download the app for your phone/tablet -

ANDROID - play.google.com/sto…oud

iOS - itunes.apple.com/cn/…s=1

The app is in Chinese. However, the website you use for uploading your items is in English. And once you start uploading files into folders, they all appear in English in the app anyway, so finding your items is easy.

3 - Sign into the app using the QQ id you created in step 1 (box one is your email for the account. Box two is the password)

4 - Go to the Weiyun site and click on the big blue button 'claim 10TB' - weiyun.com/act…tml

5 - Log in to your Weiyun Cloud account here - weiyun.com/dis…tml

And that is it done. Took me about 5 mins to get it all sorted!

Anyone who thinks as it is Chinese it can't be trusted, should read up about just how massive a company Tencent are. And if you are super paranoid, don't upload anything incriminating.

If uploading 'common' files (mp3, videos etc) that others have also uploaded, the site scans and has it included in your collection in a few seconds. Items nobody else has uploaded will upload normally. So set aside some time if uploading a lot. Also, using the Plugin they offer you can upload files up to 32gb in size too apparently.

Downside - No streaming directly from the site. But as a simple huge backup option, I'm not complaining. Also downloads of files if needed should be basically as quick as your broadband can physically allow due to some kind of lack of certain restrictions in China (or something like that anyway).

Worked fine for me. Does it have the 'audio' option? Can't remember off hand

Ha ha. I'm pretty sure that in theory, like pretty much all other services, they can contact the relevant authorities if you are suspected of big crime for instance. But, how much China would co-operate with the west in those matters is another story. I figure, if you are backing up music, videos, pictures and nothing too dodgy, then it is a ridiculously good amount of space for free.

Done. Thanks :-)

You 'guarantee' it do you. Thank god you will be able to back that nonsense up with facts about this particular service, cos otherwise I'd have suspected you were being slightly over the top. As we know, the western world is a safe haven where none of your data is available or ever spied on by governments . . . .

A wee bit tooooo much of 'Politics R Us' kinda 'Theme' going on here for my liking ..... :-(

Admittedly, there be tooooooo many 'Grey Areas' here?, but .....

Hot from me anyway OP. :-)

No way this isn't hot. Take a look how much it costs for even 1tb of space per year..

I use Bitcasa and although space is unlimited I only use 3tb. It's also slow and they put the prices up 1000% for new customers. :s

No harm in checking this out!

We could chat all day about these things but to be honest cloud space for me is cloud space...I store my stuff in multiple places using:

Box
Copy
Cubby
Firedrive
Mega
Dropbox

.....and probably more that I can't remember off the top of my head...I lost a terrabyte of important stuff on an external hard drive not so long ago..the makers wanted £70 to look at it and over a grand to fix it...so I'm not taking any chances losing anything anymore

We can go on and on about the politics and sneakiness of other countries but can we really even trust our own country?

Hot from me.

It was an opinion on the deal not a personal assault , but in the spirit of can I prove my nonsense Check out this link

The CEO was appointed to the Peoples Congress last year.....so given the facts I stand by my opinion.
I agree that the deal anywhere for online storage is hardly really secure east or west ......regards

Again, your 'guarantee' and 'facts' aren't that are they. They are opinions. Even the title of the piece you link to says 'tech giant that can rival facebook' it doesn't say 'tech giant that has vowed to share all your data with everyone'. So, sorry, but you have proven nothing. If you can actually prove your claims then by all means do so. And the CEO being in the Congress doesn't actually prove anything you said either. It just makes you more suspicious.

Did you actually read the post ?, here's one from forbes forbes.com/sit…us/
Suspicious of what .......having an opinion that disagrees with you and is in line with a multitude of articles from reputable sources.

I think that you cannot take any criticism of your deal ....well why post it if you don't want opinions ...end of for moi I've wasted enough time and your making statements that are casting aspersions personally .......

Ha ha, casting aspersions personally? Like you have just done to me in your post. Hypocritical much? I accept the world isn't perfect and if someone wants to spy on our information, they will and that's it. No matter how 'secure' or 'trustworthy' you think someone is. You however seem blinkered to the belief that west = good and honest (as per your original post and articles by western sources) and east = pure evil who will take all you have.

Surely you can see that?!

Also, it is not criticism of the deal I don't like. It is hypocritical people pretending they know a lot more than they really do that I dislike. Your opinion, whilst valid, has still not shown any actual facts that prove your original point. Anyone could post links to articles about google, facebook, apple, microsoft changing terms and generally being untrustworthy. So, who do you trust. Maybe take the tinfoil hat off once in a while and accept that your data is not really 'safe' anywhere now if it exists online.

worth a look even if only to backup movie/Music collection

Hot for me

Been playing with this since it was posted and cant say Im impressed so far.

Yes its 10tb but its slow, glitchy and awkward to use.

I have a load of camtasia projects Ive produced but wanted to backup the raw files. These are big .zip's ranging from 1.5gb to 4gb. I also had some .avi's and .mp4's that could do with being offloaded (that I didnt want on YouTube)

Im on Virgin 150MB with 12MB upload. Its taken me four days to upload nine 600mb .avi's and one 2gb .zip.

The uploads are insanely slow, they error for no reason and generally don't work. You cant upload a folder structure, you have to recreate them on the site manually and even with the 'power upload' plugin it errors on anything around 4gb. Also the queue doesn't always work, it stalls out and you have to keep checking and resuming the files.

I also re-downloaded an avi that apparently made it up but it came back down corrupt.

Shame really, but I guess thats the catch. 10tb but impossible to fill due to the problems.

Back to multiple Mega accounts I think...

Will have a peep at this tomorrow!

Hi
signed up and can see my 10TB on the website and I have applied the plugin ta.
Is there a PC app for it? If not, how do I actually use it as I can't seem to drag a drop directories from my PC?

Also, what is the QQ international download that I received by e-mail and do I need it?

Thanks

The QQ International download is the chat program which you don't need for the storage,

There isn't a PC app for it and you cant drag 'n' drop, everything's manual. I had to install the plugin several times in Chrome, restart it a couple of times and log out and in again on the site to get it to register. Its the 'Power Upload' option when selecting files.

The plugin is a browser plugin that apparently lets you upload files >4GB through the site but I have not yet been able to get it to allow one or when it does, get it to fully upload.

I've had better luck using the main site (in Chinese) as it shows you speed and time remaining in the queue list. Anywhere between 64kb/s, averaging 256kb/s and very, very rarely, 500kb/s.

Hi found this the other day and got my 10tb I have the windows app on my pcs but when trying to upload any vidoes or films it just fails for me.
Though have uploaded quite a few CDs in 320K.

I managed to get the free 26tb to work over on yunpan.360 and find any video files upload here so will use that for my videos and the other for my music sorted.
