Might do what you want them too, might not. Tried drilling 4 holes in some steel recently and needed 3 cheapo drill bits to do it.

You do need drill bits which are harder than the medium you wish to drill through.

Cheap tools are a false ecoonomy.

You wouldn't use hammer drill bits on metal. These seem very cheap though - well under half the price of other similar sets. Wonder if they're any good?

I bought some similar from Lidl a few years ago and still going strong. Happy to buy again.

If I was using cheapo masonry bits it would have probably been a couple of hundred per hole. I'm not saying it is the case with these bits, but I've seen masonry bits made out of aluminium alloy sold by reputable high street discounters in the past - and they don't label them "junk aluminium look-a-like masonry bits" they put something like "heavy duty" on the packaging.

Why would you use any type of masonry bit to drill through steel, cheap or otherwise?

I don't use masonry bits on anything other than masonry. I am rabbiting on about cheap drill bits generally being a load of rubbish.

Spoke to my friend who has a cheapo sds drill from lidl 5 years ago. Still going strong!!!

Drills rarely fail, i would be more worried about the quality of the drill bits, However i think i will still go for them as there like £5 each in b&q
