What are the terms of this offer - is it really open to cancellation at any time?

Took a punt on it, thanks OP.

yeah, all you do is drop them a quick email saying you don't think it's proving beneficial, or any kind of rubbish excuse and it's done

Cheers, qg2!

ordered can't go wrong fro £1 surely? i'm going to make a note to cancel the direct debit for the end of feb 2012

Thanks OP been waiting for this to come around again

Great deal if you like the Economist. I like reading it now and then.

Unfortunately it usually sends me to sleep - very heavy reading.

I would heartily recommend Moneyweek though - been a subscriber for years and wouldn't be without my weekly fix!

The mag is weekly but Its billed quarterly. It charges you £30 for 13 issues after the first 12 for £1. To be safe i intend to cancel after 8 or 9.

Guy on the phone told me you can cancel straight away after receiving the Direct Debit guarantee and still receive all 12.

Sounds about right.

Reason being is since you've already paid for the 12 issues with the £1 they debited, you still get the full 12 issues plus no more further debits. Reignite the subs when the offer comes round again.

I tried this last time, they failed to setup a direct debit and sent me a page of bank error codes expecting me to fix their broken systems.

Excellent deal - signing up now! Hopefully will be able to cancel asap so that I don't have £23 taken from my account next quarter! The economist for 8.3p an issue - can't go wrong!

Never thought I'd be subscribing to the Economist this morning! Thanks OP, great find and heat added.

I took up this offer last time and it went very smootlhly indeed. They took the DD details over the phone, set it up with no dramas or mistakes.
When I came to canel (which you can't do from their website) I send sent an email to their contact address. It contained my name, account number off the plastic posting cover and a short message saying "please cancel my subscription". No need to make up any excuses as to why you want to cancel.
Everything was done efficiently and smoothly. Still haven't got rouind to reading most of them ...

I've just ordered this for a friend. I know he reads the Economist. When do I cancel my DD payment?

Going to call them later, I always gorget to leave the 3 free issues one until the end and cancel DD straight away then they don't send any more issues but if this is £12 for a £1 they shouldn't be able to not send if you cancel afaik.

£12 for your first 12 issues saving 75%

Is what i get, not £1 am i doing it wrong or is it £1 an issue?

It keeps asking me to select a country, when the correct one is selected!! ARGH!!

Sounds very uneconomical for them HO HO **** HO!

Cracking deal.

cheaper than toilet paper

Good price, but can't be doing with the hassle of changing addresses when I'm back home from uni. I just download it instead. Not as nice reading it as a pdf though...

Always a good read but I find it too expensive on the news stand. This is a great deal. I can second the Moneyweek recommendation too.

Now 2 weeks later no first copy and no direct debit set up. Anybody actually received anything yet?

Very nice.

Just phoned... free issue and memory stick on it's way, £1 (total) for first 12, can cancel any time after first one arrives and still get all 12

Same here. Very strange, I guess we're not gonna get unless we chase up?

me too, I've not got anything yet

I just sent them an email and they got back to me within a day to let me know they've activated it.

Would suggest doing the same to anyone else who still hasn't had it set up and still wants to.

Update: Got my first issue of the 3 months today and they didn't even take the money out of my account!
