Can I honestly say don’t bother with John Lewis anymore. Especially their added care which should be called couldn’t care.

That’s exactly what they do if you have to claim they send off to a company called greenbridge technology (google it reviews are awful) they don’t even use original parts to repair your precious items. Wiping value of it it.
Trying to deal with any kind of issue now is shocking, you’re stuck with people ether on a phone who just don’t have the power to help so they have a cba attitude or even worse people in the store that have no idea about customer service.
I made a complaint about how i was spoke to in store by a tech person telling me I shouldn’t be giving a iPad to a child to sit on all day.( I don’t and never even said to him how long my child gets it for) clearly nothing was done as last week the same guy was rude again telling me how I should be grateful. I’d say only 2 years ago I’d recommend John Lewis to everyone but because good customer service costs money to look after your customers unfortunately John Lewis lack of profits now a days means u get a pi$$ poor service.
if you want a iPad just buy it from Apple and their Apple care. Yes it’s probably more money but you can take to a store and it’s sorted there with Apple parts or just swapped for a new one u don’t have to wait weeks.
I get this is a website about saving money etc but trust me if you have a problem your money is better spent elsewhere.

IMHO, You could have just use one sentence: extended warranty for losers. …IMHO, You could have just use one sentence: extended warranty for losers. Btw, I thought it's like a common knowledge Sorry to hear about your experience. About apple (and generally any electronic), just don't get any warranty, buy it in a cheapest place and when its worn or broken sell and get a newer one. You will end up with better device for same money spread in 2-3 years.

So you’re saying if you buy a iPad Pro which I did the other day £700. Don’t buy a accidental warranty which only cost £120 from apple because if I break it just sell it and buy another. Sure everyone will be queuing up to buy a busted iPad Pro for £700. What a stupid comment.

What a stupid comment to call someones comment stupid. It's my personal opinion.
First of all, you started with extended warranty (that means, extra time for cover included in original warranty), not extra cover for people who don't know that iPads are not frisbee. But ok. still. If you are so careless, ok, maybe you need it, maybe you are Hulk, and maybe you like to spend 120 for this, 120 for your phone, 100 for TV etc. I personally choose to keep my money, and even if I break something buy it again (probably never model already). Extra - I don't have to mourn about how poor is service quality when they have to fix £100 worth screen in my iPad when I pre-paid them only 120 ;]
Ok. So quick calc. Broken screen iPad pro 12.9 2nd gen, is like circa 200, used working 400. You really think it's worthy to pay upfront over half of this difference just because you might drop it someday? Wow I just don't see a point in paying for fix when nothing didn't happen yet. You can get your iPad fixed for £120 (screen) anytime, so...? And if you don't break it, you save money.

Lol, buying iPad rather than any android tablet...seriously?
Main thing is, are you really going to know if you will drop it? Don't you get how bs and scam this stuff is? What are the odds you will damage your precious iPad accidently? I can bet you already put it in some £100 protection sleeve.
So, in summary, you bought iPad for more money from apple, then you added extra care (and who knows what more) and you still claim it's better then buy it cheaper without extra spendings on extra care, just because if something will go wrong in 2 years from now you will be happy that someone will fix it for you and you will have your outdated used item working again for only 100% of its future value? Oki doki
Is it only in-store?
Heat just for you 2 having a go at each other! Keep it up.
Keep Calm and Carry On....getting credit!

I agree , I purchased an iron from them online, the most expensive one of the site. It arrived and the lights look like someone had taken sand paper too it. Due to the price of it decided I wanted a replacement, called them only to be told I had to take it to store for inspection ! Ended up raising a complaint in the end they shipped a replacement.
John Lewis has lost customer service had a telly that kept breaking down after 12 months got my money. lost all respect for them.
in the same offer, iphones (over a certain value, not the cheapest ones) are on 18months interest free.
If the price they offer competitive then this would be something to consider.

Can confirm. My friend's phone was defective at the point of sale. JL sent it off for service, and the service centre LOST the phone. Then told to wait a month for replacement because ... they have to check that they've *definitely* lost the phone, first. It was brand new! No courtesy phone offered while you wait, either. I've had better service from iSmash over things that were broken through my own fault, than my friend has had from John Lewis after being sold a faulty handset.
Credit check required ? It’ll matter to some
We were gonna buy an IPhone XS from JL due to the two year warranty but once I found out they have to send it away for repair, we went to the Apple store as they replace them onsite even if it’s a year less warranty as such.

Have never bothered with Apple Care, had multiple MBPs, several iPhones and 4 iPads. Not a single issue with any of them past the 1 year warranty, obviously I have been lucky but even if something broke now I would be quids in if I had to pay for a repair.
I find JL a mixed bag of customer service these days. Bought a TV 7 years ago following a price match. 4 years 9 months in it breaks- JL offered £399 towards a new TV without question. I put it to a newer 4K Samsung.

Picked up another tv in December when moving house- had to fight tooth and nail to get them to price match. Seemed to offer every excuse not to before caving in weeks later. The irony- it was further reduced immediately after....and I contacted them again to refund the difference. Back to no quibble, they done it straight away. Strange.
Some more tat to buy, some more debt to enslave the masses. Enjoy peasants.
12 months interest free, minimum spend £400?
Just thought I would post a positive experience with JL. I bought a pair of BeatsX headphones around 18 months ago as there was on reduction offer if you bought an iPhone. Unfortunately they stopped working recently. Rang up. Replacement dispatched next day to my nearest store. Dropped off broken headphones. Picked up new. Simple.
I just got couple of last years iPhone X’s on 18 months 0% finance (also had to pay 10% deposit) from JL today. Went smoothly. Never had an issue with them in the past - always found them very fair with returns. Must be lucky.

It was barely used in our spare room! & it had 2 replacement screens within the first 3 years ( a £1299 TV? ) & now the screen wasn’t working! That 3D tv was the TOP of the game! Just as the same as an OLED In today’s money!

Next time buy a car, stick it in the garage for 4 years. Something breaks then expect the full rrp. I am afraid that things depreciate. I think 70% of value is fairly generous

It’s actually because that is what the equivalent telly is worth now. That’s always been the case with insurance payouts.

This is tempting me for the latest Macbook Air. You guys think it is worth it? Last day today so I have to decide quickly.

My point is that it’s not about the part. A third party highly professional electronics repairs person can fix an iPhone with a perfectly good genuine Apple part just for for the device to fail. Whereas taking it to Apple and for them to use the same genuine Apple parts wouldn’t - you can buy two iPhones from Apple and switch screens and it wouldn’t guarantee that it will work into the future (genuine Apple parts - not even OEM).

My points isn’t about the part for item to work, but about Apple’s practice of “You must to take it to Apple for repair for it to continue to work”. You have no choice if you want to guarantee your device to work into the future. That’s what the video was about.

Oh please bore off I can’t even be bothered to read all that.
Just looked as interested in upgrading my iPhone. Downside is having to ring to apply, much prefer just to do the application online.
Place is like a ghost town in Southampton it's days must surely be numbered. People like me just go in there to have a look before buying from Amazon etc forcing their profits down.

Yeah you really strike me as the type that takes out an extended warranty on ALL your purchases. They must see you coming, not often a salesman gets lucky with this kind of ignorance. You've really made saved money taking that out .

I applied for the finance by phone but they sent me a link to complete online for the finance part. It was with Hitachi finance and I got accepted instantly. They ask about employment, but you only need to select earnings you’re on in bands of about 5k. No actual proof was required. Don’t fib though as they’ll sus you out.

‘Twas easy. Phones arrived the next day by DPD.
