Received this offer through the post yesterday, not sure what people make of plusnet but it sounds like a decent deal to me.

Been considering plusnet for a while - I'm currently with O2. Can't find any info about plusnet though and unsure about the download limit.

Don't go with Plusnet if you're an avid gamer. Infact, don't go with Plusnet at all.

Thanks for sharing. Voted HOT.

You're basically paying £2.99 for b/band.Very good if you just want to e-mail and browse the web.
Want to download or do online gaming..forget it.
Used to be with Plusnet.Sharp drop in speeds in the evening and restrictive useage.
Heat added.

Every person I have known to be with Plusnet has left and been very glad to do so.

I'm with PlusNet and been very happy with the service, been with them 9 months now. Dont find it particularly slow in the evenings and my husband plays online on his xbox although a few hours a week so maybe he isnt classed as an "Avid Gamer"

Midnight - 6am is free and doesnt count towards your download limit. We have only used 3GB each month for the past 3 months (I just checked) and we opted for the up to 60GB package as I thought we would use a lot more with my husbands gaming. So really we could be on the up to 10GB package at £6.50 a month and not the 60GB package at £11.50 a month, may have to look at downgrading when my contract ends...

Cant comment on calls/line rental as we are with BT for this.

Been with Plusnet for 3 years and never had any issues, call centres are always polite and helpful.

As soon as my 12 months with Plusnet is up, I'll be leaving. Modem is crap, speeds are crap and CS haven't been very helpful either. I know I have a pretty poor speed anyway, but there is a lot of lag when browsing the internet. They also hamstring the modem so it is very difficult to troubleshoot etc.

If I want to leave befpre my 12 months are up, I will owe the £70 at least - a charge for th emodem AND connection

I have BT line rental with free evening/weekend calls and pay £9.99 a month.
Just avoid extensively using BBCiPlayer, as that will eat up your allowance, especially watching in HD.

Plus Net has been my provider for about 3 years now.Free to use from midnight to 8am. I am on the 10GB package, any big downloads do them after midnight. Never had a problem. Good service.

Im with 02 and there not great, slow speeds at times, router crashes and two hours calls for them to sort it, will be moving in June to?? got a letter from plusnet today but i want unlimited as 5 laptops lol

To be fair, they're not that bad. I was on IDNet before but needed something cheaper. Pings & Lag don't seem to be any higher, 30ms to Jolt.co.uk.
They do throttle which can be annoying, especially with iPlayer.

have you considered getting a decent router? the Thompson ones have always been a bit rubbish.

code wouldnt work for me anyway......

my bad - code works fine - was trying to add the advanced broadband

brilliant isp

Plusnet is completely owned by BT the worst company in the world for smoke and mirrors trickery.
Make you own mind up. I am with Plusnet ( didn't know they were BT in sheeps clothing when I signed up ,I mistakenly thought they were a nice Yorkshire company!!, so I am locked in for a while. My speed s rubbish 1.2mbs if I am lucky router is poor distance and only good for next room or directly above it. Very cold for mee!

Echo all the positives, been with them for almost a year and completely satisfied. Have been on a trial with them for their own 'Infinity' and speed went from around 1.2 mbs to around 37 mbs on wireless n, that is not a mistake it is 37, despite being a very long way from the exchange - it's called FTTC, Fibre to the Cabinet. Download is 60Gb on plus package or 10Gb on standard. Highly recommend although I do not have line rental with them.

just signed up over the phone. currently with bt and have a bt landline.. deal i got is £11.99 for the first three months which is the line rental, all calls anytime and the 10gb b.band. After 3 months it goes up to £15.49. Sound deal even for the line rental and inclusive calls.

Plusnet are just about ok if you just browse the 'net and no more. Don't even think about d'lding unless you can stay up past midnight.

Anyone know does the anytime calls include 0845 and 0870 numbers? Costs me a fortune just to get a doctors appointment.

Scrub that, just read it and it's bloomin' obvious that it does! Interesting, ta.

I have a belkin one that cost 100 pounds lol but still had problems, think its also as we live out the area and pay over the odds for slow speeds. thats what you get for living in the country.

Its all about the distance to the exchange, not the geographical location. I live in Liverpool but as it is a new housing estate, the BT cables run up the oustide of the estate and then work their way back through, drataically increasing the line length. We get an awful connection speed anyway, but people who live over the road get a much better speed because their estate sits at the end of ours

The speed drop with Plusnet has been noticeable for us though

switching from talktalk

plusnet doing the switch but told me i didnt need a mac code - strange

kit arrived in 2 days

I was on Plusnets 8mb package. The max speed I got was about 5.5.In the evenings it used to drop to around 1.5.Per month, had 50gb allowance between midnight - 4pm and 3gb from 4pm to midnight.
Found it very restrictive and was forever having to keep a check on how much I was using.
C/S is ok but technically they aren't great.
Definitely wouldn't go back to them atm.

I have been with plus net for about a year and am happy with the stability of the service. Never had to call cs so cannot comment on them.
I had the option of Bt, plus net or Bt as I'm in an area with limited service.

Before I joined plus net, you get a speed prediction which was accurate at 4mb. I use my own router because I always find the routers that are given away to be crap.

I download a hell of a lot of music and movies and schedule them to start at midnight because it's "unlimited" between then and 8am. Perfect for me.
You get detailed information on where your allowance is going in pseudo realtime including separation on your allowance and "free" dls (ie midnight-8:00).

Would recommend them even though they are Bt (and I had nothing but trouble with Bt in the time I had them).

So glad it is a decent service to me or I'd be screwed

Same with Utility Warehouse.

was with plusnet previously, signed up for their calls and broadband and they took the whole years charges IN THE FIRST MONTH! was not best pleased, although they said it was a mistake they weren't that quick at refunding me back.

also when there was a fault which I knew was the line they insisted on speaking to me like an idiot, refused to send an engineer out to the exchange for weeks, one advisor actually said "sorry cant help you" but they still wanted me to pay for it even though it wasn't working.

USELESS!

All ADSL broadband uses BT backbone, BT engineers and all. There is no way to avoid BT unless you go to cable broadband i.e virgin. £11.99 is a good price but ur tied down for 12 months if this is naff ISP

Been with Plusnet for just over a year. Had a few problems at first but these were mostly on the BT end.

Unlimited downloads between 12:00am - 8:00am (I am on adsl2 with a 17mb ip profile & get full speeds all night. If I want I can download around 55Gb in the 8 hours.

In the forum is a great place to get help from Plusnet staff & other experienced users - much quicker than ringing.

This is the probably the best way to escape Tiscali and TalkTalk. Since Plusnet is owned by BT, it seems your line is back with BT.

It is hard join another ISPs who insist on a BT line without excessive connection charges.

I'm with O2 who are outstanding. Free UK CS and a 16 Gb download speed (Surrey)

Used this deal (and TalkTalk) to get three months free with O2

My brief summary of plusnet:

Pros: good basic web browsing
Cheap
Good customer service

Cons:

Forget using p2p before midnight and after mid morning

Laggy gaming

I was with plusnet for a few years but got fed up of capping and throttling.

Take not this is based on an Adsl Max service as I live in the sticks. Maybe someone can provide a summary for unbundled areas

this is exactly what we did, we were with tiscali, who got taken over by talk talk and the line used to drop about 4 times a day, the only way to fix it was for me to switch the router on and off, it got really annoying..their customer service was useless.....then we moved to plusnet, the line has never dropped, on the one occasion we called we had a very helpful man who sorted out our problem as promised

they are MUCH better than talk talk and cheaper
