Good for this country although illegal in Europe... Shame...

I didn't think GPS based speed camera detectors were illegal in Europe, just laser/radar ones?

Voted cold. Even if it is a good deal for blind criminals - it is a very bad deal for other vulnerable road users.

New law in France
Effective from 3 January 2012 French laws prohibiting drivers from carrying devices capable of detecting speed cameras have been extended to include devices able to warn or inform of the location of speed cameras e.g. satnav or gps systems capable of showing speed camera sites as PoI.

I have been told although I cannot confirm this; you are not even allowed to have a GPS in the car even if it only has an English speed camera database installed.

I don't drink should I therefore vote ALL alcohol deals cold as it might encourage binge drinking or drink driving.

Yep - don't go to France with this. €800 on the spot fine if caught. Even if it's off and in the boot of the car

By that logic, they should take down all the signs informing drivers of speed camera on the road (much like the french have done). Silly person.

Whether they should sign or not is another matter. The fact that they do sign and people who are speeding don't even notice would suggest that they are also driving dangerously or have a yellow blind spot if they can't see them.

Next speed doesn't kill? And I love you too

Incorrect - you can uninstall French speed cameras (or simply not install them in the first place). The French police cannot fine you for having speed cameras for other countries on your satnav.

The British government allows use of the TomTom Speed Camera service for inappropriate speeding on the roads to prevent unsafe driving.

In addition, the government of the UK states the following about speed cameras in navigation systems:
"The Government will not be prohibiting those devices that rely on Global Positioning System (GPS) technology to warn drivers of published camera sites or posted speed limits, as these compliment the Government's policy to ensure that camera sites are visible and conspicuous to drivers, and so help deter excessive and inappropriate speeds on the roads."

Very Useful,
Heat added because it's good value

IME trying to teach French police French law in imperfect French may not be a good career move ...

The product loses its value and reason to exist if you stay within the speed limit. I say that as a reformed speeder who has paid his fines and now stays within the limits.8)

You are apparently saying the Government allows inappropriate speeding to prevent unsafe driving. That does not compute. Well unless my logic gates are down - as you seem to think.

BTW would that be the government who wanted to end the war on the motorist? Would that be the 80%+ who admit to regularly speeding or the 20% who try and drive safely within the law?

thanks

Thanks, downloaded the app and registered for the 12 months free.

I was then also able to restore the purchase within TomTom's Navigation App giving me 12 months speed cameras subscription within that app too.

I'm not "apparently" saying anything.
Personally, I couldn't care less what the UK government's opinion is on Speed Camera alerts...I was simply quoting their official line on it.

I fail to see how your reply is relevant for someone travelling in France that is using a Satnav that does not have French Speed Camera alerts on it?

Which is easier for le flic: Take valuable time to search the menus (having found out how to change the language) that see French traps are disabled or to issue a ticket and leave you to write (in good French) to explain to any arbitrator and maybe have to return to France to prove otherwise? Actually like any policeman if they think there is a technicality in the way there is always another law real or invented they can make life difficult with.

Isn't it just easier for you to drive lawfully and safely? That's all there is to it really. And you probably wouldn't get stopped in the first place or be a pain or worse to other people.

Thanks, i already own the UK + Western Europe app.

Downloaded the app via 'Get Deal' logged into tom tom account.

Then opened UK + Western Europe App, went to Tom Tom App, it should shown there. If it doesn't select 'Restore Purchases'.

already hot the Tomtom app , do great to have the speed camera subscriptions on that . voted hot from me . thanks

what are you talking about.
it just tells you where the cameras are, it doesn't tell you to speed up.

Lol at some of the responses. Morally wrong! Lol
